IMPERIAL DECREE | The Nation Calls

Two quite different reactions came from the Knight and the boy that received the missive.

Ser Caspian, Knight and Sergeant, a leader and soldier who trained in a time of peace, had never been apart of war, having come to Aevos after majority of them. To war against the lands itself--a brave and daunting task. Portraits flashed through his mind. A set of blonde children, accompanied by a blonde man. A young man with aged eyes. A woman who was a flower being carried by the wind, drifting away to new sights, soon to settle back to her home garden. The people he fought for. By no means was Caspian confident, for he knew wartime was a new beast he must face alongside the mountains, but it was courage, and hope. He was unsure of what the future held, but for the first time in years, Caspian felt a spark light in his chest. The dull days of wading through life, waiting for either his love to return home or for something to cut him down, waking only to protect the people and the lands of Stirland, seemed over for just a moment.

The young Lord Adonis Rovare, heir to his father's throne, a boy of eleven who had much to learn, had not initially known what to think. His ink stained hands held the parchment, a Scribe, meant to be a Lord, called to be a Soldier. His gaze flitted to the sword that rested on his hip. A wonderful craft that he had yet to use. To war against the lands itself--that was simply madness. A scene flashed through his mind. Poor Lucrezia, his eldest sister, sitting alone by their father's right hand at the table. The two eating in silence. No Lucien to cause a scene with poor manners. No Elias to speak of his escapades--a boy gone to war as soon as he returned home... No Adonis, to pester his family with his herbs and alchemicals and research. Adonis had always intended to fight to defend, his family, his people. It seemed that in reality, God chose him to attack.
