Chat & Plugin Basics Guide

This Guide will detail the basic roleplaying commands and chat systems, such as our various roleplay channels, how to enter and focus on each channel, and some of our miscellaneous plugin commands!

Chat Channels

The server provides several chat channels to help players roleplay effectively. Many of these channels have a set block radius, meaning only players within that channel's distance can see your messages. So, make sure to use the right channel for what you wish to do. For example, whisper, quiet, roleplay, and shout are all proximity-based.

Along with these players can interact with the server OOCLY (Out of character). The OOC channels bear the same qualities as those of roleplay channels Whisper, Quiet, Local OOC, Shout and Global OOC. These channels are for players to communicate to either clarify IRP (In roleplay) things or just a general chit chat.

Remember to use these channel commands by placing a hashtag (#) before the channel name, written in lowercase. You can join a channel by entering #<channel> on its own (e.g., #rp). However, if you want to send a single message in another channel without leaving your current one, simply prefix your message with the  #<channel> name instead (e.g., #looc how are you?).

Below is a list of all the channels that are accessible on LotC, which can be accessed in-game by doing /chat list. Please bear in mind that some of these channels are for staff and may not allow you to use them, so please do not feel like the chat is broken.

Roleplay Channels

Most Players will only be capable of accessing the Basic channel commands, such as:

#w - Whisper, with a radius of 2 blocks. These Messages can appear as 'muffled' if there are blocks in the way.

#q - Quiet, with a radius of 8 blocks. These Messages can appear as 'muffled' if there are blocks in the way.

#rp -  Roleplay, with a radius of 20 blocks. These messages can pass through blocks.

#s - shout, with a radius of 48 blocks. These messages can pass through blocks.

These channels have OOC counterparts, as talked about above. These can be accessed using:

#wooc - Whisper OOC with a radius of 2 blocks.

#qooc - Quiet OOC with a radius of 8 blocks.

#looc - Local OOC with a radius of 20 blocks.

#sooc - Shout OOC with a radius of 48 blocks.

OOC Channels

Other channels are also available for OOC use, such as:

#ws - Wandering Souls, for communication with un-whitelisted players. Here you can chat to players who are checking out the server, or who might have some questions about the server!
#ooc - Global Out of Character, for general OOC discussions with other players. All server players are able to view this channel.

#h - Help, for when you might need a bit of aid from other players. If you need help from staff specifically, please use /modreq or /creq instead!

#tr - Trade, for when you’d like to conduct some trade with other players.

If you wish to join these channels, you can type /chat join <channel>

In order to leave these channels, you can type /chat leave <channel>

Staff Channels

Some channels can only be used by Staff; however, all players will see the messages. These channels are:

Broadcast - OOC server-wide broadcasts.

Local Event Broadcast - RP broadcasts that affect a large area. This is often used by the Story Team when conducting events.

Local Moderator - OOC Moderation messages. This is often used by the Moderation Team when handling moderation tickets with larger groups.

Chat Settings & Direct messaging

Our server features fully customisable emote styles, which can be discovered by running the command /chat settings. By running this command, we can see my own settings below:

To learn about these settings and how to adjust them, please check the spoiler below:

Spoiler

/chat settings emotestyle < always | explicit | quotations > - This command lets you pick one of the three options as your ‘Emote Style’. As we can see, I have ‘always’ selected.

“Always” - this style defaults your roleplay message to a coloured emote unless you surround it with quotations “”

For example, typing this:

 CSeotpTcTn9HrdjDvuYe-8XqllfnqD7BiRprL5Al

Gets emoted as:

6WpNIL7o5YBHh2pUPPcOycOMCM8elE-dEMX9i3mX

“Explicit” - this style defaults your roleplay message to dialogue with quotations “”, unless you begin your message with an asterisk *.

For example, typing this:

R9wPL4TdpR4wNKImScECrW0B84a71rEYk7LmHOHw

Gets emoted as:

68WZ38PCqCdE8z8cw3er5OPSHozeN4tFPsuUWYmw

“Quotations” - this style defaults your roleplay message to dialogue with quotations “”. However, if you emote an action and use quotations to enclose your dialogue anywhere in the message, it mirrors the “Always” style.

For example, typing this:

bWG8DcyW5mHdW3zgbBXaKJehcq7eU70pFyRvu-3i

Gets emoted as:
i5BsLzAFazKu3jpVSkNSJWiM2ZzFBlnod6N08tsX

Direct Messages

You are also able to directly message players on the server, as seen below:

/msg [Player Username] - Allows you to directly message a player.

/r - Allows you to directly respond to a player.

With direct messages, if a player messages you, you can also just click on their light blue name, and it will auto put the /msg command with their name in for you, saving you a few seconds.

Other Roleplay Commands

Our server also features a variety of simple commands that can be used to enhance your roleplay experience.

/sit - This command makes your Minecraft Model enter a ‘sitting’ pose, which can be seen by all players. Please note that sometimes you will need to re-sit if a new player enters the area, as they might not see your model’s pose.

/showhealth - This can be toggled and displays the amount of health other players have, above their player model.

/shownameplates - This can be toggled and displays player nameplates above their player model.

/showrpnames - This toggles nameplates between player names and character names.

/showitem <playername> - This shows the item in your hand to a selected nearby player.

/showitem <radius> - This shows the item in your hand to all players in the set radius.

/handoff <playername> <amount> - This sends a request to send an amount of the item in your hand to the selected nearby player.

/money help - This command displays additional commands that can be used for roleplay mina (money) transactions. To see the full list of available commands, please check the spoiler below:

/money - This displays the amount of mina your character has on them currently (not in the bank).

/money pay <playername> <amount> - This pays a nearby player the set amount of mina. You must have the mina on your character’s person (not in the bank) when paying another player.

Mechanical Roleplay Commands

/lock - This is to lock doors, chests, furnaces, bookshelves etc.

/cpassword- This is to lock things, but with a password. This command is mostly used to make requests, as the ST can enter the password and check your roleplay/sign the item.

/cdonate - This is to make a donations chest, mail box, or even to make a library with readable books. Don’t fear, no one can steal them; only view them, but having this command on a chest will allow players to view the contents.

/cpersist - Running this command before running, for example/lock, will allow you to run around and lock things in bulk and in one go, rather than running it each time. This command is best used for storage rooms or libraries.

/cmodify  <playername> - Running this command will allow you to add people to your locked doors, chests, furnaces, etc
