OVERVIEW

The zorban is a small creature, no larger than a common racoon, that lives in densely forested areas. They mostly keep to the trees and only descend to the ground for water. They are closest to tree frogs in nature, though they share only the barest of qualities with the amphibians. Notable features of a zorban are their black and white coloration, their bulbous and pill shaped body and head, their four limbs, and their glossy black eyes. They are lazy, but utilize what little strength they have to gather food, mostly tree nuts or fruits that are growing nearby.

Zorban are herbivores by nature, and often utilize their abilities on more mundane creatures such as squirrels or chipmunks to acquire their food. They rarely interact with Descendants and other sentient creatures on account of their frail bodies and typically come in packs of four to twelve with one matriarch zorban leading them.

Despite their nature as beasts, the Zorban are quite an intelligent species with the intelligence comparable to that of an ape or a small child.

ORIGIN

The zorban are native to Azuras, originating from the Silverwoods in the southernmost island of the continent. They are magical in nature and came about due to the nature of the lands they inhabited. While they are initially from the Silverwoods they have since expanded to other parts of the continent, though the greatest concentration of them still remain on that island. They are not found in places without dense forests, and prefer warm climates to colder ones.

Due to their reclusive nature zorban are often drawn away from settlements and choose to live their lives only in the deepest parts of the forest. Sometimes though, one can find zorban in the ruins of cities lost to time, utilizing the stone walls of what once stood as bastions of civilization as their nests and hovels.

CAPABILITES

Due to the lazy nature of a zorban they are unable to be domesticated, with attempts simply resulting in a zorban either losing interest or taking whatever gifts are offered with no attachment to the individual giving them. Even if one were to try and forcefully capture a zorban away from its group, or capture an entire group of zorban, they would find the beast entirely unhelpful. If captured individually the zorban would likely grow too fat it loses the ability to move without the guiding influence of the matriarch, and if captured as a group they would likely be a nuisance, forming no bond to their captor and simply trying to continuously escape.

While zorban aren’t fighters, they do protect themselves and members of their packs. When threatened, a zorban will toss down whatever it can find in a tree at its attackers. This process is more effective on smaller predators or predators that the ability to climb trees, though if a group of zorban band together against a single threat they could likely overwhelm a larger individual and force them to flee from the sheer number of small projectiles.

REDLINES

OVERVIEW

While typically docile, roaming, and pack centric herbivores there comes a rare occasion where a zorban finds itself eating meat. While this is antithetical to the nature of the beast, it is not harmful to it, and instead it empowers the weak zorban into a creature of great power. Once a zorban gets a taste for meat they cannot go back, going to greater and greater lengths to taste their grisly meals again. In this state a zorban will, over the course of a few months or even weeks, grow from the size of a racoon to that of a large grizzly bear and lose its docile nature, becoming more and more deranged as time goes on.

A Greater Zorban has no need for a pack and thus hunts alone, in fact a zorbans first taste of meat is often that of their packmates if they so happen to get into a fight or perish in an untimely manner. The Greater Zorban find with their consumption of meat comes greater physical prowess. Where before they were slothful and could only fight off weak and smaller creatures they now find themselves capable of flinging larger objects and effortlessly beating down or even killing stronger creatures. Descendants must be wary around a Greater Zorban, for while they are without a pack they are more easily able to defend themselves with their great strength or by flinging large stones at their would-be attackers.

The Greater Zorban are propelled forward by a single purpose, to feed. They ceaselessly pursue this end, even going so far as to attack unsuspecting descendants in the woods or luring people away from villages or off the roads. A Greater Zorban is also far more aggressive than its weaker counterpart and will go out of its way to attack creatures that enter its territory.

CAPABILITES

While Greater Zorban have certainly grown, their bodies are not much stronger. Their skin is still easily penetrable by most weapons and their bones just as brittle as a common human's. The hard part however comes in actually landing a hit on a Greater Zorban. Utilizing their physical prowess a Greater Zorban is capable of knocking down a creature or individual that isn’t wearing heavy armor and is also lighter than an olog. They are also capable of lifting either many small objects, such as handfuls of rocks, or one [1] larger object, such as a man or a boulder, and flinging them at the speed of a baseball at their targets.

Greater Zorban also find their physiological changes grant them more protection to their fleshy bodies, with more muscle and fat stopping blades and arrows from penetrating too deeply in them. Though this does not mean that a Greater Zorban is unkillable or that no attack will hit, magic works quite well against a Greater Zorban, as they cannot muscle through non-physcial spells. Additionally, any spell too large for a Greater Zorban, that being a spell of the [4]th Tier or higher will easily find its mark against the beast.

Greater Zorban are sluggish beasts, as their initial forms were, and are unable to tank various attacks on the same location. A Greater Zorban can easily be taken down by several well placed attacks wherein its muscle gives way under the numerous wounds, and while a single adventurer might find themselves a meal of this beast, a prepared group should have no trouble in bringing one down.

REDLINES

-A Greater Zorban cannot be domesticated as they are violent in nature, they can also not be captured or utilized in combat that is outside of a specific ET event, and they show no loyalties or allegiances to anyone, attacking whomever is near them

-A Greater Zorban is a rarer creature, and may only be utilized by the Event Team in Events, due to this rarity, they should also not be treated like a common enemy

-All spells of Tier [4] or higher will land against a Greater Zorban, non-physical attacks of any tier or magic also automatically land against a Greater Zorban.

-The Greater Zorban can be represented in game by a mechanical build, ET, or NPC

PURPOSE

Spoiler

I have wanted to get into writing lore for a little while, and I’ve never quite known where to start so I figured before I try a super daunting task like magic I’d attempt a smaller feat like creature lore. I’ve tried to make this a unique creature to LOTC (though it is heavily inspired by/copied from the animated TV series Scavengers Reign). Overall I wanted to try my hand at bringing a new creature to Azuras that anyone can use in events while also dipping my toes into the lore scene. Please feel free to give feedback on how to do redlines as well, I am not a lawyer and cannot write ironclad redlines

This Lore has been accepted. Moved to Implemented Lore, it will be sorted to it's appropriate category soon. Please note that if this is playable lore, such as a magic or CA, you will need to write a guide for this piece. You will be contacted regarding the guide (or implementation if it isn’t needed) shortly.
