In the year of our Lord,

2061 A.H

“AS CONSTANT AS THE STARS, AS STEADFAST AS THE SWORD

I WILL REMAIN. THROUGH FEAR, THROUGH FAILURE, THROUGH FIRE — I WILL REMAIN
∘₊✧──────✧₊∘∘₊✧──────✧₊∘∘₊✧──────✧₊∘

Not all who call themselves human are one of us. Some turned from their own kin and now dare to reprimand us from behind iron gates. They will call our vigilance arrogance and our discipline fear, yet at the same time, recoil from facing us and their consequences beyond their own walls. Know that none of them are neutral. They are not men who are “misguided”. They are collaborators who masquerade as our kin only when it benefits them, only when they seek pity to save themselves. They are people who have abandoned everything that binds us as Mankind. Treason does not become freedom, and betrayal does not become virtue, no matter what naive intent lies behind the act.

We, by contrast, bear the weight they chose to abandon. Fight not for glory, nor comfort, nor the illusion of moral purity, but because refusing to act is crueler than any blow delivered. Hesitation kills more surely than any ruthless act. Mercy that refuses to act is permission for suffering to linger beyond any necessity. There is no path forward without blood on our hands. All that remains within our control is whose blood it will be and whose children will be made to pay for any hesitation. Every mercy shown to those who seek to destroy us is paid for in our own blood. What we refuse to take from them will be taken from us, whether that be our homes, our families, or our children. Discipline without resolve prolongs agony. They may call us monsters, they may claim we act outside the light of God, but the truth is unmoved by such accusations. Ruthlessness with purpose is mercy itself. To strike decisively is to spare our loved ones from the slow torment of what will only be drawn out chaos.

I will not pretend that unity promises comfort; it is a shared burden. Ambition and Unity are measures of what mankind endures when others seek to sway us otherwise. Those who find complacency with the other side have chosen to reject both. They revere acts of treason as liberation, acts of betrayal as something virtuous. In doing so, they have long removed themselves from the bond that allows a people to endure. History will not remember them kindly. No songs will be written of their honor, no books of their strength, for they lack any. Do not bend to accommodate them; we will not allow our future to be dictated by those who know only to run and hide. Ruthlessness will be wielded unapologetically.

Stand now, and stand knowing what is necessary if we are to preserve the legacy and sanctity of a unified society. If we are feared, let it be because we refused to flee. If we are condemned, let it be because we did not shy away from the burdens others abandoned. And if we are remembered, let it be as those who understood that the greatest mercy is to end conflict swiftly. Look to the sky, the same stars remain, the skies still stand, and our walls have yet to fall.

I do not fight because I delight in bloodshed, but because hesitation is far crueler than any blade that may befall me. If what I do brands me a monster, if the lengths I go through to protect my family and my people brand me heartless, then I will leave that to the Lord’s judgment when my time comes.

Maddock Tam sighed, and wrote a reply to be mailed around the Empire.

”You call us subhuman, traitors to our race. Last I read, the Holy Scrolls do not condone child murder and child beating. You say you are unified, yet some of your most loyal knights have tried to desert you and resign to not participate in atrocities. You claim you do not delight in bloodshed, yet you fight for an Emperor who ordered the deaths of innocent allies and subjects of his on a whim. You may call us all the names and insults you like, but it is the Emperor you so vigorously defend who remains the biggest hypocrite for pretending that this war needed fighting at all. We did not start the bloodshed. You did. We are not child killers. You are. We are not the ones who turned on our own allies and treats life as if it is expendable. Serving an Empire like that is not unity. It’s slavery, to greed, hate, and evil. I will gladly die with my hands and conscience clean fighting this tyranny and hypocrisy than abandon my principles for a man who would leave his own child to die in the hands of enemies who prove themselves more human than he ever will be. One day you will make a choice in this war that will decide if you will be able to face your loved ones and the Lord without shame, and I pray for them and for you that you make the right choice, and choose your humanity over your loyalty, for Hadrian will never choose his humanity over his loyalty to Iblees.”

- Maddock Tam, Archchancellor of Beleth

Princess Mattea Asadha, worried that this was a missive on the obesity statistics within the Empire of Man, breathed a sigh of relief before opting to take a walk. She would not be part of such a demographic.

"Mwa ha ha ha ha! You see this Squeakington!? Now it seems you're only human if you follow the most OBVIOUS villain orders, no matter how OBVIOUSLY Evil are! Do you see this Squeakington!?" The creature hummed "Don't know much about politics Boss..." Dementio groaned "Of course you don't! But c'mon! Only thing he needs to do now is him kicking babies or puppies or something..." He rubbed his chin "If... If that didn't happen already... Well! Back to Evil planning! And as the greater villain I am... I have more important stuff than simple puppy kicking..." He raised a finger, storing the missive away.

Maddock Tam felt as though someone just agreed with his assessment of the missive for entirely different reasons. He shrugs. At least there wasn’t any puppy kicking, the baby kicking was what started the war.

A blonde haired woman, sitting in front of the hearth within her ancestral home hums softly as she reads this missive. “Ah… mon dieu, Nimble fingers curl around the edges of the parchment as she clicks her tongue in distain, But eet ‘as not touched my life, my ome, my maman. So vhy should I scream, or svare loyalty, for somesing zat does not ask me yet?” Her soft voice mutters to herself as she folds the missive and tucks it away in a drawer before returning to her painting.

A red-haired apprentice reads the missive in passing, muted green eyes scanning the words. Her lips purse as she turns, situating her bag higher, and departs from the city. Anxiety and confusion radiating off her in waves.

The taloned gauntlet of a Herald taps against the stone as the war grows louder and louder

"ein shame mein cousins refuse mein call"

a wicked smile curls at the edge of Artair's lips as the fires around him brighten and burn

"ein shame indeed"

Maddock feels himself start salivating. Strange, he felt as though there was another demon asking for him to tear it apart and break. He wiped his mouth and continued going about his day, his own hatred for demons wasn’t going to be temporarily sated anytime soon…he hoped.
