[Amendment] Sprite Anatomy Clarification

Recommended Posts

Purpose

There was a discussion in the ST discord about what exactly "humanoid" means when it comes to the limitations on Sprite anatomy. There was a lot of confusion and no one seemed to be 100% certain on their interpretation of the wording in the lore. This is definitely not what should be happening, so I intend to make it clear what our intent was behind the mentions of "humanoid" form or shape. The redline is a bit long, but I feel like it's necessary to convey the message in a way where it's interpreted the way it should be.

The concept of Sprites/Faeries here is very different from earlier iterations of the lore. Given that Sprites design and create their own physical bodies, we purposefully expanded their design possibilities greatly. The "humanoid shape" is meant to keep them all within a certain range, but they are not meant to look like humans (or each other for the most part). There can be sprites that have beaks and feathered bodies like a bird, or ones that are scaled with long and tailed bodies like a lizard. The image in the Physiology section of the lore is a good example of how removed they can be from looking like the stereotypical fairy while also fitting the criteria. They are supposed to represent the full range of natural life.

Spoiler

- The aesthetics of sprites may replicate any natural or fae traits, although they must always be definitively fae in presence. Please do not try to be a Tinkerbell ripoff, at least make your skin blue or something.
- Extra appendages may have application within limitation. Extra limbs and functional appendages, such as more arms, antennae, or a prehensile tail, may function freely while [Out of Combat]. While [In Combat], the mental strain will nullify any functions of extra appendages, limiting the sprite to [2] arms and [2] legs.

- Faerie dust is a delicate substance which loses its shimmering quality should it be crushed or ground up beyond its original formation.
- Faerie dust materialized during casting will dissipate upon nearing something physical, making it impossible to blind or harm people with it.

- Faerie dust is a player-signed reagent that must be gathered from sprites should one wish to use it in crafts. Attempts to loophole or abuse the CA to mass produce faerie dust may warrant ST intervention.

- Sprites must have a recognizable humanoid shape, but deformities and unnatural proportions are allowed.
- Sprites are effectively immortal should their fae seed and core remain undamaged, being able to eventually recover regardless of how tattered their vessel becomes. However, should the connection between the two is severed, such as if a sprite is beheaded, then the vessel will still perish.
- A sprite's corpse leaves behind material remains of their body, although it will decompose over time akin to any other organic matter.
- Sprites do not possess genus.
- Sprite flight does not mechanically change the speed at which they move during combat. It's still [4 Blocks] while 'walking' and [8 Blocks] when 'sprinting.'
- Sprites may not use flight to bypass mechanical barriers or restrictions (locked doors, high walls, illegal parkour jumps, etc.). However, they may partially bypass mechanically inaccessible areas for RP and CRP purposes, such as flying into trees, getting onto ledges, or squeezing into small areas that are they are unable to mechanically position themselves at.
