What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

#1: Roleplay Questions/Biography

This is a given, but not for entirely the reasons many would expect. Primarily, this is an RP server. That means what they show for RP potential in many ways reflects on how they will do in the server. However, the RP portions of the application also have a lot to shine on how they act on the server. Whether the person is new to RPing, or a hardened veteran, its easy to tell how they will commit themselves to their character and how invested they are in an RP experience. A well thought out, developed character with a measure humility and realism sewn in is the sign of a very good RPer who has infinite potential on the server. A character that closer falls into the line of a "Mary Sue" with no humility, a development pattern that reflects "I shall be good at everything" rather than "My character shall be realistic" shows that the applicant probably needs a little guidance to shape the direction of their RP. Reading biographies thoroughly and studying their answers to RP related questions is paramount to determining if they are ready for the server. Don't get me wrong however, I'm not expecting college level writing with intense character development, plot intrigue ect. I'm just looking to see if they put a measure of effort into what they wrote and if they have a realistic expectation for their character.

#2: Good Grip on English

This is important. English is the language of the server, but beyond that we have Orcs (like me) and, recently, elves using their own languages. These languages can be bastardized versions of English with many English words replaced entirely with some from fictional languages (like the Orcish Blah). With these sprouting up, anyone not familiar with the english language can become extremely perplexed in a very short time frame. They can become frustrated and quickly lose interest in the server (I've seen it happen). When this does occur it can reflect negatively on our server and community. However, if we know ahead of time what their knowledge of the English language is, we can address it immediately and ensure they have a positive experience. People with a functional, but not fluent, level of English may be able to join the server, but should be well informed regarding Orcs first so they know what to expect should they encounter one. Applicants with only a very basic level of English understanding should be reviewed of their knowledge before being accepted to ensure they can function properly. Its certainly possible and could improve their knowledge of the English language while playing the server. I was once in a guild with the leader being german. The guild had a requirement that you speak in the Orcish Blah 100% of the time. The leader came to the guild knowing absolutely no English. He essentially learned it through the Blah and now speaks English rather fluently. An extreme example to be sure, but it reflects on how English can be built upon through RP, as long as the person is invested in it.

#3: Name the four races on this server:

If you can't be bothered to read up on the lore of the server, at least on a basic level, there is absolutely no way you can RP on this server. RP is all about the lore of the world around you and how your character interacts with it. How can you RP in a world where you do even know what inhabits it? That would be like going into waters without knowing that they are heavily infested with sharks. It also shows how much you care about the server. Is the Server important enough to you to take the time to look up a few facts about the server before you write out an application to it and make the decision to join it? Your knowledge of the server prior to joining it defines your application. If you study the server first, then decided to apply to it, you already know the server is something you would like to work with and can see your self playing, in a sense the server has passed your own "application process". If you apply first with the intention of testing the server after joining, then you are a shaky applicant at best. You are still developing your opinion of a server and are charging into it with a sort of reckless abandon that is out of place for an applicant.

#4: Small 2-3 sentence description about yourself

For the most part this tends to be something looked on as "no big deal" and lending little to the overall success of the application. However, 2-3 sentences (if wielded correctly) can be used to say a lot about yourself. Someone who manages to pick a few good sentences to describe themselves have magnificent writing talent, which more often than not translates to a strong character that they RP very well as. Seeing people who give any old answer to this part is common place. Finding someone gives a grade A answer to this deserves some merit and recognition, because that's not an easy thing to do.

#5: Other Information

In many ways, this has the same sort of function as the 2-3 sentence description, except its more open and allows an applicant to cover their first impression . Applicants can use this section to give us valuable insight that otherwise has no place in the application. Perhaps a chance to dissuade any initial assumptions made about the applicant, or help us getting a better understanding of who the applicant is and how they would mesh with the server. Best of all, being a widely optional field, there is no reason an applicant should hinder himself by answering this field. If he does hinder himself, than he should receive some guidance on applications. For the most part however I don't see cases of people botching up this final field. I do however enjoy it for the particularly meaty insight it can offer about the applicant when used properly.

~~~
Hope you enjoyed my application, while it is a tad long winded I tried to give thorough reasoning to each part. Enjoy!
Alien1Workshop1
I thought "Alien" was enough to specify just who that was, my mistake.
