The Application Team

TheLordofNoobs: Earnestly, yes this server needs a bit of the iron fist in certain areas, especially at the gate letting people into this lovely server. Thank You.

Earnestly, I ask that EVERYONE that is not a part of the Application Team OR posting an Application for this team, please do not derail, distract, or disrespect this thread's purpose.

I agree on that, Gaius. But i meant like if a person does something wrong, we dont just call him a fool, this doesnt go to bully, any of the members. Dont we just warn him? But i do agree that theres a iron fist needed sometimes.

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

1. The biography - I think the key into being a great role player begins with your character's biography. This is the thing that your character is based upon.

2. Checking to see possible MetaGaming or PowerGaming - I would look the player's biography and read it over. If it had anything like "Person drew out his poison dagger" I would either deny them or just tell them to fix it if the rest of their application is well made.

3. Definition of RolePlaying - I would check the applications on that page to see if any other one had the same definition for roleplaying, or the example application.

4. Grammer - I would make sure they actually can spell decent and doesn't spell almost every word wrong or use "r" and "u", stuff like that.

5. Original Application - I would make sure their application is original and not copied off of an accepted application.

Well, here it is. I just wanted to try :)

Key points of an application:

I have been on this server and this forum for quite some time, spanning back towards mid august. Though it is true that I have not been here the longest during my time I have come to better understand good roleplay in the world of Aegis. I have also come to really care for the environment the admins try to provide for the players and I wish to contribute to that ambience.

The Server Roleplay

I feel that a key point in every application is the incorporation of the server's roleplay realistically and effectively to help further the story of Aegis while maintaining a well formed story that is interesting to those who read it. A person who reads the nature of the Orcs and instantly decides that their parents were murdered by Orcs and that they are an orphan really detract from the flow of the server as players stop and sigh at the blandness of the story. A player should take a good amount of time to describe and form their character before posting, making sure that their person has a believable history that doesn't conflict with the servers lore.

Knowledge of Roleplay

I also feel that a player should have a good knowledge of roleplay before joining, this is especially important as it only takes a few minutes of poor RP to ruin someone's day. This server is essentially the top of the RP ladder and therefore its player base should be that of experienced roleplayers. Deflecting the barrage of new roleplayers that just bought minecraft days before can impede the progress of many stories and give a poor look for the server.

Spelling and Grammar

A third key factor in any roleplay is proper and correct spelling as well as grammar in ones day to day speech with other players. The player should speak according to their background be it Human, Dwarf, Orc, or Elf, and they should also keep in mind that the players around them put in an effort towards good speech and they should too.

Player Commitment

Another major factor towards good RP is a persons commitment to their characters life. A new player should show some form of commitment towards good RP by writing a well done bio as well as realistically incorporating their character into the world. I may be guilty of this originally but a character should not start off their life knowing everything like mining, reading, farming, and so on.

Character Development

They should also demonstrate that they are able to develop their character and their surroundings in a steady pace and not attempt a power grab three days after acceptance. Time also plays into this as a person with a good amount of time that can be dedicated to the server more than likely will pick up on the happenings of the world and develop their character accordingly.

The Rules of the Server

Finally a new applicant should be able to follow the rules of the server and already know them quite well before attempting to apply. As of late people neglect the rules laid down for the players and therefore problems arise as conflict runs rampant through the player base. If the applicant show their knowledge of the rules and shows their willingness to follow them no matter the circumstance they are stepping in the right direction towards furthering the interesting and fun qualities that this server continues to bring to hundreds of players.

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

1# Honesty: Yes, Its easy to lie on your application about your age, and your personality, and play a persona. This is what roleplaying is about, but being honest can lead you to great things on the server itself. EG In your application, you say your 21 and an awesome gamer, then you get on TS and act immature and you teamkill people and generally fool around, you lose a lot of respect from other people.

2# Biography: It is the Past Present and Future of your character, and I believe if you set that up well, your on the road to success on the server.

3# Formality: Ive found that when browsing through applications for fun, there are people who name their applications "XYZ's Application: PLEASE ACCEPT SOON". I find this highly deterring, as it shows your arrogance and the fact that you automatically think your gonna be accepted, and that the application is like a toll gate, pay and go through, but believe me, mess that up and you will pay!

4# Understanding: Ive seen some applications then mention the KGB and the CIA, and the Cuban Missle Crisis. This is nonsense, in Aegis, the Cuban Missile Crisis doesnt exist, and closest thing to the CIA we have is the Holmes. I believe people need to understand Roleplay before they try to attempt it.

5# Language: If someone applies to the server, and the first Sentence is "Hey mate, This is ma application, hope u like it. Accept me to the server now..." I would think...tool (=P), and deny. I hope people who are applying are using terms fitting to that of a roleplayer. A translation of that sentence in an "acceptable" sentence, would be, in my mind, " Hail Friends, I have now submitted my paper into your dropbox, I hope your Highness acknowledges its presence and accepted me with fine haste." Lovely Roleplay language, and if the rest of the application was of the same standard, I would accept. So what if hes eager, all the better for the Roleplaying!

Thats it, Simple but those are my views on Applications.

Regards,

Adelas
