Reprehensible Acts, Reprise

[!] A letter would have been plastered to bounty boards across the continent by a near-army of couriers.

To whom it may concern,

This feud shall end. There exists some truth in the words of my adversary, Emrys Ana’halrae. Much of it was manufactured, but based on rather unpleasant reality, and I shall not pry it open to reveal only further deceit. I will not give him further leeway.

Let it be known that this letter is not a guarantee of his safety, nor the safety of the Haelun’orian identity, of which I find myself willingly estranged. I do not wish to be counted in their census, nor will I preach my purity. I know it will not be recognized. My sole mistake is in allowing my taste for revenge to leak into the public mind. I will not make such a habit.

I hereby declare that any contracts proffered on bounty boards across Azuras penned above my signature are henceforth nullified, and are considered void in my mind and legally. I will not offer payment for any contracts assumed to be completed before this missive if I did not receive the promised goods. I have no pity for bounty hunters. I intended to use them, anyhow. Profiting from the dead is a condemnable act.

I offer another form of contract; a promise, penned in my hand and emblazoned with my golden signature. The terms of such are as follows:

  1. I forfeit any claim to Haelun’orian blood and denounce the Maehr’sae Hiylun’ehya ideology.

  1. I forfeit any claim to Ana’halrae inheritance and henceforth sever my legal bond with Celia’dant Ana’halrae as my wife.

  1. I disown the child of my blood, whose name will be omitted in an attempt to guarantee their safety.

  1. I shall raise no sword to Delphin Ana’halrae, nor Aurelith Silevon, as they are both victims of circumstance.

  1. Concurrent with all of the above, in the event of a perhaps timely death, I leave the aggregate of my belongings, my wealth, and my property, to the Crown of the Imperium.

I do not expect all qualms to be flattened by this quickly-penned letter. I do, however, expect the bounty against myself to be dropped as I have done the service of fulfilling my end of the deal.

Signed

Lorandil Sindarin

To Emrys Ana’halrae,

Spoiler

Consider this letter the acceptance of my fault for the threats incurred by myself and the entirety of your family. I am solely to blame for the tumultuous reality of both Ana’halrae and Sindarin names. I am sorry. I did not wish, when I had first introduced myself to you on the steps of elcihi’thilln and proclaimed you a dear friend, that we would part with the burst of foul weather and inflammatory words.

Oftentimes, and especially now, I find it ever the more difficult to understand the circumstances surrounding my existence and to wade through the rushing currents that threaten to sweep me off my feet. I am lost, Emrys. I suspect I am lost and never to be found.

I will not ask you to find me. I will only ask you to ignore me, and I will do the same for you. We shall never speak again, and I believe that is for the better. I wish you health, and safety.

Signed

Lorandil Sindarin

To Delphin,

Spoiler

I am sorry you were caught up in your uncle’s feud, and that I had the gall to drag you beneath the surface of blame. I do not expect to rekindle my relationship with you. Know now that I guarantee your safety from myself or my allies, and that you shall never be named from my lips.

Be well. Tell Alfonso you love him.

Signed

Lorandil Sindarin

To Celia’dant Ana’halrae,

Spoiler

I do still love you, if that was ever in doubt. Circumstance and constant miscommunication has forced my hand, but I played the cards poorly. I could have done better.

I am sorry, my love. I truly am. I do not expect to ever hear from you again, but everything you have ever given me perpetually shall remain on my person. I will be buried with your note of kisses. I will wear your glove during my final duel. I will brush my hair behind your silver ears when I meet nobility.

I love you, more than anything, more than myself, and for that reason it was required that I sacrifice my happiness to guarantee your own safety. I am so, so sorry. I do not expect you to forgive me, I could never, not for decades, but fortunately, we live a very long time.

Time will be our friend.

Signed

Lorandil Sindarin

To Mira,

Spoiler

Let not hatred cloud your brilliant mind. Now and forevermore will I be proud of you. You will do much more good than I ever have, a murderer, a traitor, an adulterer, a liar, and a beggar. Continue upon your path and you will be paid wonderfully by the people around you in love and in companionship. I will watch you from afar, tinuviel, and you will know my presence.

Do good for your mother. Do good for the rest of the family. Most importantly, do good for yourself.

I love you, Mira. Be safe.

Signed

Lorandil Sindarin

To Aurelith Silevon,

Spoiler

We never knew each other very well, and especially now we have grown apart sufficiently that I cannot consider us more than acquaintances. As such, I recognize that even mentioning your name in my bounties was a grave mistake.

You are a victim of circumstance and poor actions taken in a fit of rage. I wanted everyone I knew gone, and you were a name that teetered on the balance between safety and death. I pushed you to the wrong side. You will have my word that you shall not be harmed by my blade, nor that of my allies. I do not wish you to die, not now, not ever. You were a wonderful woman when I knew you.

I do not expect you to forgive, or forget these wrongdoings. I only ask you to ignore them. They will pass you by as they shall pass me. In the meantime, stay safe, stay healthy. Do good, Aurelith.

Signed

Lorandil Sindarin

To Ignotus,

Spoiler

I never saw you as an equal, nor as someone worth half of my time. I was content to ignore you as a plaything of Hymnal’s. Forgive my blunt speech at the very least.

Now that time has passed, and a genuine affection has come to surround your relationship, and I have wronged Hymnal, I must apologize to you, as well. I did not intend for innocents to be caught up in our feud, and I regret that I did ever anger him so. Understand this: He is at fault as much as I. The only difference is his conduct in tampering his anger.

Rarely, have I been recognized to be level-headed. That fact reared its ugly visage recently, and I wish to amend what terrible rift I have torn in the fabric of my reality.

Do not forgive me, but forget me and you will never hear me again.

Signed

Lorandil Sindarin

"So he shall still raise a sword against myself, basically...?" - "Wish me health- TCH.... moi fokk'n arsehole."

A slow grumble, deepened from sleep and dreams muttered as a servant read him his due papers and 'apology'.

". . . I'm going back to sleep, tell Celia'dant I'll be over for tea. She shan't have her revenge, at least.... 'net with mae involved"

Vesryn walked through the Tundra before he reached a small town, his hair filled with snow as he glanced over at a nearby bounty board. The headline caught his attention as he translocated the missive over to himself.

"Coward." he muttered before throwing it into the wind.

The musin that had been so closely following this series of odd messages paused to read the one on an Idunian board.

"Ah - well. That was rather quickly handled." He paused a moment, realizing he found far too much amusement in the entire situation than could possibly be healthy or morally 'right'. "Huh... Well. Nobody was actually hurt. Thats good."

He continued on his merry way.

Balas reads of the petty squabbling of the High Elves, lacking in entertainment. Truthfully, his was a lonely existence, accompanied only by the presence of phantasmal beings and displaced kin. His gaze trailed off though the window cut into the morion walls of Barad-Khór. Where was Hymnal now? He wondered. What would have become of himself had he confided his religious whiplash in the Urguani therapist? Would he still find himself among the dead and dying?

". . ." He stewed in his thoughts, recalling the odd situation in which the two first met. It disturbed him, how unsteady and treacherous the world was outside of Urguan's rocky bosom; How often he'd heard of friends and acquaintances tortured by their new reality, it sickened him. A pit formed in his stomach, "Bounty er not, p'raps he shoul' die." He mused, turning his attention to an enormous unfinished slayersteel glaive, and the glowing Brutus Core which rest beside it.

Acalmaehr Calith receives the notice, having only just organised out the various warrants and hits.

"Seriously?"

"Now I need to send a bunch of letters back..."

"Or Maybe I won't."

4 hours ago, trinn said:

“Wait, we’re getting his wealth?” An Imperial Princess punches the air in glee. She reads the trilogy of missives over morning tea.

Valithael smiled to her boss a little too knowingly. It seemed she had something to do with this.

A final letter was sent to both Lorandil and Hymnal.

Very good.

I trust you shall both play nice in the future.

Do not force my intervention again.

-Lots of love, Valindra

Aurelith's fingers toyed with the parchment, her gaze lingering on his name longer than it should have, weighing it, measuring what remained of the man she once knew.

She picked up a quill.

· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ❀ ·· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·
Lorandil,

Ignorance is a failing I have little patience for. To act in rage is one thing, to cast that rage across an entire continent, to place a price upon a life you scarcely understood, is another entirely. You have asked it to be ignored, to allow it to pass me by, to be made small for your comfort. This, I cannot grant.

And yet-- I forgive you. Of course, I will not be shaped by the anger of another, nor will I carry forward what was never mine to bear. What you have done belongs to you alone.

There is no burden to keep; or rather, only the burning fury between your ribs. I can understand that. I ask you to not stoke it anymore. Govern it. Let my name or those I love never again find itself carried upon your storm, whether spoken, written, or even entertained in thought. Do this, and you have my absence of my enmity.

Until such time, may your path be steadied by wiser judgement than that which once guided your hand. Walk carefully, Lorandil, for the sake of the man you must choose to become. I will not forget.

Most kindly,
 -- 𝔄𝔲𝔯𝔢𝔩𝔦𝔱𝔥
