*you see a note tacked onto the notice board in Oren. There is no name ((ignore my sig, otherwise you will be metagaming :P ))*

Hail citizens of Oren.

Today, there was a large battle with the Undead and their minions. They occupied the roof of a inn, and blasted lightning around the area. My fellow ranger Rio and I started an assault on the roof, but got pushed back by the minions. I holed up in a small corridor next to the inn, and harassed them with arrows. Running out of food to stay much longer, I sent a hawk to Felix, requesting reinforcements. He returned the hawk to me, not only refusing reinforcements, but commanding me to stand down. He wanted to attack after the Undead leave. He claimed that attacking now would result in the unneeded deaths of too many. I refused his command and continued shooting arrows. Eventually, several knights and guards turned up, including Braxis and Huron. We finally beat them back and retook the inn.

My question is, what is Felix thinking? Because a place is hard to take, you don't attack them? Because you will lose a few men in the process, you don't attack them? Death is a necessary consequence of war. Felix would rather undead take the inn than lose a few men taking the inn back. What kind of military blunder is this?

((RL examples:

George Washington didn't stop fightining because he lost a lot of men did he?

The allies didn't call off D-Day because of heavy losses, did they?))

This is just my message to Oren. Agree with it or not, it is up to you.

*reads the notice, cackling madly*

Felix is a coward of a High Constable...

That rank is cursed.... this is the beginning of the end of Felix...

Felix is right in his thinking, and you are too narrowminded to see it.

Let them take a crappy inn where they cannot do anything- They'll leave in a days time out of boredom. They kill us FOR SPORT! You think you 'pushed them back'? They'd had enough fun for the day and left, and would have done the same had you followed DIRECT orders, with less deaths of good men.

And watch the undead blast lightning at travelers?

EDIT: Also, Undead always attack for fun.

If the military aren't willing to take action to protect the people and the roads they travel on, then what are we here for?

We didn't join the military because we were too afraid to risk our lives. And indeed, risking our very lives is part of the job. It's part of being in the military.

THIS is what we're here for.

Standing idle is not.

Felix is right and always shall be. Undead are despicable I know, but they will just start a war targeted at Oren. They will attack through the sewers into Al'khazar. The sewers will be no more. The inhabatants will be slain and so will those above. This far from what we need. How do you think he became high constable anyway? I respect my leader as he respects all.

So. Your saying we should hide in our walls and watch everyone else be slaughtered?

((@JDSD, if what you say is true, that everyone should always follow orders, then we wouldn't have the medal of honor. Most people get the metal for defying orders in order to save others.))

We all make mistakes, I am completely neutral in this argument. Whilst Felix perhaps underestimated the ability you and whoever it was you were fighting with, or perhaps felt that too many lives may be lost, he made his decision. The men were clearly under your control and you are able to decide for yourselves whether you want to fight or not. You did manage to drive off the Undead and prevent them from gaining what could be a strategic point on the Kings Road(which is Oren's land so it's really down to the military to protect it anyway). There is, however, no need for an argument over it because no matter how you look at it, both approaches had benefits and downfalls.

The note is left anonymously, underneath the request for a doctrine.

((I just want to point out that George Washington may have been a general, but he didn't really command troops. He was a politician, and General was just a title they gave him. Also they probably would have surrendered from losing to many men if the french hadn't showed up. I think that is how it went, at least.))

*Lirfanel says to himself as he reads the note

Hmmm... interesting... just leave your men to die?

((Umm, he was a politician AFTER the war. He still fought in the war.))
