Dwarven Culture

Alright, it is time that we get some basis on how dwarven culture functions. There are plenty of books and information on dwarves, but we need to find a basis on which we can make us more dwarven instead of just a group of people. It is possible that we combine various cultures of dwarves from the choices, but we would need to be very clear on what would be from what background. Such as, religion from D&D and language from Warhammer, just as an example.

If you can't decide on which one, just choose the one you think most resembles LotC and post the finer points you would like to see from each one.

EDITED: Keep em coming dwarves! I would like to get ideas for a possible secret language, official ceremonies for dwarves (such as promotion, recognition of a hero, etc.), a religion, a code of honor perhaps?, and anything else that could contribute(those just off the top of my head). Post links of ideas that you would like to have added to the culture of the dwarves.

Lord of he Rings has it. When they started the server you can see the LotR influences in our main city which highly resembles Moria.

They all have good points though. I think the buildings and living areas are very LOTR ish but other things remind me of warhammer, and DnD, I don't know what to vote for, we should make our own culture, with points from others aswell.

Hmm... my character I base on a mix of LotR and a series called Dragonlance which is basically DnD but I think that lore wise LotR fits it best. I think that points of each should be taken but that the foundation of things such as religion should be LotR. Also, IF we ever get a language it should be SUPER private like in LotR. That's my thoughts though I think we are so far evolved with different people coming from different opinions on how dwarves are that we are too unique to be solely one thing or the other.

This is to get a general consensus so that other players know what to base their characters off of and so that our rp has more traditions and reasons that make us dwarves different from all the other races. I do like the idea of having a secret language. We would have to keep it off the forums and away from prying eyes. Now if we only had said language...

There is plenty of different influences the dwarves have. But you have to think about it like this, different games are based on different factors, if you've seen my guide to settling it's mainly dwarf fortress theme'd along with stereo typical dwarvern lifestyles ((Hint hint... The ale I often mention!)). I believe things like WoW, and Warhammer would best influence our military, other than that the other games would suffice well for rp. Just one thing that would peeve me would be using WoW's dwarf lore, because having titans in Lotc would be a bit odd!
