Viscounting

In the lore of elves, Viscount is the position of a "Lord" Generally helping the people, and reports to the Princely council.

It says they can be voted onto the council Of high princes, if popular enough.

I say we need these viscounts to Fulfill elven "democracy"

I think having a Viscount requires having those who are willing to fulfill the position. Elves aren't into hereditary titles and formalities. Titles are given based on merit rather than bloodline.

Think of a line of possible volunteers. In human terms, everyone runs up and wants to be in charge. In elven terms, all but one step back and point at the one and say "he/she's the best for the job!"

Being High Prince, Prince, or Viscount bestows no nobility from what I've seen. Well.. nobility in human terms. High Prince Native for example can be approached by what a human would call a commoner elf, and they will speak to Native by his first name, very informal. But unlike humans, elves see each other as equals, respect is given by merit. Since Native is highly regarded as doing a great job, it wouldn't be uncommon for him to be addressed as my'lord. But it isn't required or expected.

But if there is such positions open, I wouldn't mind my character filling one. I just need to speak to a power that be's ICly to work that out.

But the thing is, No viscounts exist, To fulfill Elven "Democracy" We need some to fill the job of helping the people, while the Princes help the Nation.

I think you missed my point.

So to answer your statement, who qualifies? Better yet, who's going to step forward to fill the positions?

I haven't seen anyone who ICly expressed a desire to do so. Filling out an app on a forum means nothing to a character or group of characters. If elves are a democracy, thats means you might want to get known in and around Malinor before even trying to be a Viscount.

What do you mean? There is only one prince and one princess... or there is only one position of honour for an elf. Because neither of those are true.

We have found no use for viscounts in Malinor. Perhaps that will change, who can say?
