The Future Of Elves

Hello all of my fellow Elves.

Introduction

I am writing this today in order to ask what is going to happen to our people. We have been forced from Aegis by the Undead, and now reside far from any other nation in Asulon. So what are we to do? No one has asked what is going to happen, no plans have been made, no formalities have been taken. So I intend to initiate the thought on our future as Elves.

Current State

From what I have so far seen on Asulon, things are not looking up for our people. Most of them congregate near the Cloud Temple, in lands not even claimed by the New Nation, whatever that nation's name may be. They live in a place called the "Elven Slums" near the Cloud Forest. I am sure few even know where our own lands lay, because there are many more homes in this area than in the New Nation.

Those Elves in the New Nation, after any wayward traveler arrives, make themselves as cold and callous as one could imagine. They tell all to leave, and tell everyone that there is not enough food and no homes. They do not want anyone there to build up farms and construct houses in the massive trees. They just want everyone to be gone, lest they be a high elf.

And this is another issue; the racism within our race. Already, there are separations that were unseen in Aegis. High Elves have claimed the main part, and the part nearest to the Cloud Temple, entirely for their own. They turn away all arrivals, only telling them of the Wood and Dark Elf camps if the Elf asking endures a scolding and a large amount of deigning. Wood Elves and Dark Elves feel unwelcomed in their own lands, and are growing to despise High Elves. This cannot happen.

Furthermore, as no government or army has been established, we have no way to secure any thing. There is no protection in the mainland of the New Nation, and there is no protection of the Elves in the lands we have not claimed (which we should) where the Elven Slums lie. We have no apparent leader, and we have no desire to grow.

Our nation does not even have a name.

Government

First things first, we need to have a ruler set up.I suppose and propose that it should be the old High Prince, should he still be able. The council, in addition, would be made up of everyone from the old council who can still rule, with some new additions made if necessary. These Elves would need to be very busy for the first few days that they come back into the government, as we have so much that is undone.

We do have a castle for them to enter into and rule from, and for them to decide everything they need to within. However, it remains empty. No one fills it, and no one uses it. This needs to be fixed.

Also, to help with the growing issue of discrimination, I propose that Elves of all subraces come together, with at least one of each in the council. This will help fix and prevent problems.

Military

When Aegis was destroyed, many new issues rose among the various races. Even within the nations of the races. Now, a newfound hatred has been realized, and things are grim on every border of nations that touch. Luckily, we have no borders with other nations, but we may soon find ourselves in a position where the Dwarves or the Humans or the Orcs border our lands and want them, unless we quickly set up a military force and a plan to grab land that should be ours.

Supposedly, the military should be like it was on Aegis. However, we all know how well Aegis turned out. On Asulon, we should keep our military a force of elite individuals on one side and a brute force on the other, in order to strike fear into enemies and never have to deploy boots. We should use them for whatever purposes we do need, though. This is all just my idea, and is subject to the new government, whenever it chooses to come.

Economy

We have none, and it will be fixed with the rise of a government. So I won't even address this part.

Acquiring Land

The Elven Slums I mentioned before are currently in the no man's land that much of Asulon is left to. This area likely houses two thirds of the Elven population. This means we have a right to it, and should claim it as soon as we can. It is the area of highest productivity in the Elven world so far, and will provide much wood for housing, which is a "problem" in the mainland.

In addition, claiming the Cloud Forest, Eastern Cloud Forest, and the Woods near there will provide us with many... unique... opportunities that our competitors in Asulon have no access to. These are not things to be discussed so openly that a Human could read.

Finishing

Now that I have said everything, I hope that you will all heed my warning. We need to fix everything that we have not even started yet. We need to get a jump on the other races, and set ourselves up as a powerhouse, as I am sure the humans will eventually all ally and attack other nations. We must do everything in our power to help each other and not fight, and we must create a New Nation of power and prosperity for all, as to attract as many of the disparate Elves as we can.

Come, let us unite, and again stand together!

Signed,

Royce Haddon

A note is attached underneath the scroll. As you lean in closer, you smell lingering tobacco on the parchment.

The High Prince, Haelphon, is very much alive and well and continues to rule. The Council is still in place and we are currently working on our camp to the far northeast. Our lands have changed, but our nation has not. We have always and will always be Malinor.

I cannot speak for the council on the forests to the east of the temple, but it should be common sense that if there is no one to defend our current land it would be foolish to try and claim even more land. The issue of having a military is being addressed as we are gathering some of the Elves who can wield a blade.

As for the racism...you can't legislate morality. If they are turning away those of our own race from sanctuary, however, they will receive a visit from us that they will not enjoy.

If any of you truly seek to assist your race's prosperity, you will cross the ocean to the northeast and find one of the council in our camp. The issue of having to cross the ocean is being solved as I write this, if it isn't dealt with already.

May your paths be safe.

I am glad to hear that the council is still in power, this is very reassuring. And the topic of taking the lands was meant to be built upon after a military is found, but in my opinion, it should be of a higher priority than a few other things.
