( I liked the way it sounded, so I made it into an Aegis Story )

~Spring’s Angst~

Lived on a rock, he did. Poike, with his sorrows, all but ancient. Occasionally, the lost wanderer would reach his home. One day, a charming young man entered his redwood-stained, fenced-in, yard. His hair gleamed like the fire during a brisk winter’s eve. His beard as fine as the etchings on Aeriel’s blade. Within moments, Poike’s young maiden-daughter, Melanie, did fall into the arms of this young man’s gaze. Her subtle need for quiet life dwindled. There on that spot, did her heart erupt with love for this man. Poike invited him in for a dinner. During the small feast, the young man asked the daughter if she was interested in love, and her father, upset, locked her in her room never to come out again. Poike was indeed a fool at that, for he only locked the door. The man, filled with sorrow, thanked Poike for his melon seeds, and went on his way. In the midst of the dark, two weeks later at the start of spring, the young maiden escaped through the window, and followed the trail of blooming melon sprouts. Eventually she came upon a bustling town- Al’Khazar. Her trail went cold, and Poike grew tired of searching. On the message board, he told all able mercenaries a ruthless kidnapper was on the run. A year later, Poike, driven by madness, had joined two mercenaries who had successfully tracked down the young man and Poike’s daughter. In his sleep, the young man was killed, and the young maiden was locked once again in her father’s home. Distraught, she plunged a short blade into her heart. When she was buried, aside from her mother’s dress, there was a bag of melon seeds. In spring, on the anniversary of Melanie’s death, Melons sprout from the ground, and the harvesting seasons begin. The fruit was named after her, by her father, in her memory.
