V0idsoldier 1139 Share Posted April 1, 2012 *A cracked leather clad journal rests on the shelf. Pulling it from its clearly ancient spot between two others, a chill runs down your back. A simple metal lock lays open on its cover, with in it holds countless secrets, blueprints, notes and inventions. Opening it, the lock cackles, creaking subtly on its hinges, the leather cracking even more, the book hasn't been opened in decades. "For my dearest son. May you live a life without the burden of disability, to feel ashamed of a birth defect." *The words are inscribed in red ink upon the first page, intriguing you even more. Who owns this journal? What lies ahead in its ancient pages? You cant resist, and you turn the page, almost ripping it, you calm yourself, knowing it is irreplaceable.* *Several designs of different contraptions are scratched out with a thick blacks ink, countless words mark the pages.* "Failure" "Worthless" "Nonsense" "Impossible" *Strewn about as if a mad mans ranting were placed within the pages. Then something catches your eyes* *Laced in thick red ink lies the blueprint, the invention, a... a arm of some sort. Madness you whisper to yourself is as your interest peaks. Who the hell wrote these designs, and what do they mean? Turning the page you see more elaborate writing, addressing a unknown third party, presumably this mans son.* "My son, I have found it. The cure to your disability, I have made your arms. Finally, no more do you have to live in this world as a reject, a person of spite, now you can be accepted with in this world. *The book goes back into wild ramblings, scattered around the pages as you flip. Details on the arms construction lay about it some, most, scratched out and unreadable, though a few stand fully legible* "Immobile, hard to power, and generally a pain in the..." "Strong, nearly indestructible" "Redstone, and a little luck, this puppy will..." "Flexible joints, iron and diamonds, will cost me my life..." *And finally* "Worth it" *The words don't mean much until you piece them together. This contraption, machine, must be strong, fast, but hard to power. A trade off it seems, the arm will be fast and strong, but immobile and hard to power, layered with iron and diamond fragments. A single words comes to mind, and just as you flip the page you see it in bolder letters.* "Interesting" *You cant help but smile, this book, these notes, so intriguing.* "a almost infinite power source... But... And this is a huge but son... it may kill you. I cant in good conscious make this decision, so when you come of age, you will have to." *A crude drawing is laid out, seemingly a red stone generator... located on the near the shoulder blades. This is risky business, but this man seems to have a heart driven to save his son from the despair of having no arms. Below, a final sketch of the final arm, placed upon a dummy body. Plated in iron so the fragile parts aren't seen.* *The age goes on as you turn the pages. With in them he describes his son growing up. Tears mark the pages, more and more, internal struggle takes over. Nearly everything is scratched out by now, and finally you come to the assumption that his son died. Flipping frantically, you come to the page cant helping to show a smile, suprised at how connected you are with this family* Operation... Successful! *Smiling, you seem happy, almost ecstatic. The boy made it!* "To the one and only, my son, my life, my everything. On my death bed, I gave you life. Some day you will find this, and you can truly appreciate life. -Gildir Mirdan In honor of Tinunir "Tin" Mirdan I love you son." ((Basically, a possible alt in the future for me. A high elf with a robotic esque right arm, he goes by the nick name Tin, his full name meaning Young spark, and his family name, last name, meaning Gem-cutters, which is his families profession. He is young, brash, sometimes rude, and cuts to business when needed, a jokester for the most part and a artist in his own right, with metal. Tell me what you think about it, I know there is already people out there with robotic arms, so this shouldn't be too big of a deal. He will just be a alt char if I ever even do get around to playing him, just a little something interesting. Tell me if this intrigued you, or if it made you hate me =( ))

Charles_Grimlie 1072 Share Posted April 2, 2012 Nice, but if you wanted a functional robotic arm *Shifty eyes before lifting his robe's sleeve* you might want to ask the dwarves for one! They simply are the best at this sort of thing... Well not eyes though, the last bugger blew his head in when his eye exploded leaving diamond and gold debris in his skull. V0idsoldier 1139 Author Share Posted April 2, 2012 They are actual a family of Gem cutters, as the name implies. His father, worked his entire life and spent the entire family fortune on this device, using his knowledge and contacts, to get this thing working. Of course many of these contacts were likely dwarven engineers.
Charles_Grimlie 1072 Share Posted April 2, 2012 So is it likely that the child will know any of these dwarvish contacts or are they just nameless contributers to the cause? I would say it would make for some interesting RP.
V0idsoldier 1139 Author Share Posted April 2, 2012 So is it likely that the child will know any of these dwarvish contacts or are they just nameless contributers to the cause? I would say it would make for some interesting RP. Oh my gosh, didn't even think about it. In fact, yea, that would be cool to find some actual players willing to play the part of knowing his father, seeing him almost as a nephew of sorts. Though they were high elves, they would have likely lived in dwarven kingdoms, participating in that. They aren't what you would call noble, rather engineers of sorts. Great idea, if I decide to pursue this idea, I will get in contact with some people willing to play that role. In truth, yes he would know these dwarven contacts, though as of yet they wouldn't be players.
Arbrek the Ancient 140 Share Posted April 3, 2012 Well, that would be more my area, as the Forgelord.
V0idsoldier 1139 Author Share Posted April 3, 2012 Well, that would be more my area, as the Forgelord. I would love to get in contact you if or when I decide to pursue this idea and character. I think it would be interesting rp, and would be pretty cool to have a high elf, acting as a dwarf in some regard. He is rude and crude at times, and very brash, he is a expert with engineering and enjoys strong ale. I think it could be cool, so we will see where it goes.
