Out-Of-Character

Minecraft Account Name: luigikuehn

How old are you?: I am 14 years "young" :)

Please be honest with this; no one really minds if you are 70 or 3, if you are mature, responsible, can follow rules and can RP you are fine with us!

Time-Zone/Country of Residence:Gmt (london, dublin). Ireland

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?:I would like to think so haha :P although everyone makes mistakes once in a while?

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself: Once you get to know me you know that I am friendly, kind and really helpful! although I do have flaws. Some of those flaws would simply be that I'm a perfectionist and I like to have everything done the way it should be and if I am given a task it may take longer as it would have to be done to the best of my ability!.

Just explain who you are, what type of person you are and what you like doing. We are a very friendly community here on LotC and we like to know who everyone else is. It is not a requirement, but we do prefer it ^^

How much time could you be on the server weekly?: Between 1 and 20 hours depending on the day.

Do not lie about this, if you can only be on an hour a week just say so, we understand! Just do not say that you can be on 40+ hours when you can only be on three. For example on my application I wrote 9 hours and I got accepted fine Activity is not a defining factor to join LotC.

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you: Rp is a very important skill to have in games and servers like this. (After-all this is an RPing server) to me roleplaying is about exploring who you are and bringing your creative side into effect and really showing what you can do with your skills.

Many, many, MANY people fail their application because of this question. Quite a few of them assume role-playing is similar to RPG's (even though RPG stands for Role-Playing Game, it is not the same. Go figure ) it is not. Role-playing in general exceeds the "computer game" in time and space. Basically it means role-playing is everywhere and anywhere you look and is not limited to computer games in any sense. In this question we ask you to describe what role-playing is TO YOU, not a copy/pasted definition from Wikipedia. You could also include your previous experience in role-playing, what you have seen other people do or even if you only have sparse knowlege on the subject say so! But you do need a general idea of what role-playing is. (Google is your friend here, but remember NO COPY/PASTING!)

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?: I have played on this server before and I'm a creative person!

This question is just so that we know how experienced you are, and from which role-playing background you come from. Most communities and games RP very differently from the others, and as such we like to know how you role-play.

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is:Meta-gaming is basically where (for example) you are lost in a forest and you don't know where your friend is so you pm him asking his co-ords./you are coming out of character using different language and behaving differently.

Do not guess, and do not presume that Meta-gaming is something good or something which does not pertain to roleplay. If you do not understand what Meta-gaming is you have multiple options; you can look on the Lord of the Craft wiki, join our team speak server and ask around or just do a google search. Make sure you are searching for metagaming within a text role-play context, and not an "RPG" context as you will recieve many different answers.

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is:trying to maximise your skills/only playing for the game and not with it.

Power-gaming is the most misunderstood words that we see on this server. Many people think that it is "Focusing on getting the strongest" or "Maximising certain traits of your character." These are things that relate to "RPG" games like world of warcraft, Skyrim, Oblivion, runescape. This is a text role-play environment so as such you will need to look for powergaming within a text role-play context. Or you could again simply join our Team Speak server or look on the LOTC wiki.

What do you expect this server will be like?:the server is AMAZING! and i want to make a new character to really explore the variations in lore and nature.

This is another question that will not get you denied (but please write something there). Just answer truthfully, what do you think this server will be like?

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?:I have played on smaller servers and the reason i have left is simply due to the fact that i was getting bored whereas on this server it is very hard to get bored as your posibilities are endless, I mean you can do anything you can imagine.

Another question while not necessary we would like you to put some effort in and remember which other servers you have left and why.

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?:Yes! rules are not meant to be broken and therefore are put in place to make everyones time enjoyable

This is a must! You must read, understand and agree to the rules. It would also increase your chances of being accepted if you would copy and paste a rule in here and explain why you like/dislike it to show that you have actually read it, though this is not necessary.

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules:100% YES

This is alike to a disclaimer so that if you break any of these rules we can ban you. This may seem a little cold, but it is a necessary precaution as many people will make ban reports saying "UNFAIRLY BANNED" or "I WAS BANNED FOR NO REASON" when infact they broke the rules that they promised us to abide by.

How did you hear about us?:I heard about this server from a "famous" youtuber by the name of potato0rgy.

We like to know how you got here. Advertising is key to growth in this server and we like to know where our members are coming from.

Have you voted for the Lord of the Craft on Minestatus? Which vote number were you?:No but i will do it a.s.a.p

A lot of people can also get denied if you do not vote for our server. The link to the website to vote is here: http://www.minestatu...-the-craft/vote

To find your vote number look at the total number of votes for this server, that number is your vote number. Please do not lie about your vote number as we can check who voted when.

In-Character:

Character Name: Dratas Lyr

What name have you chosen for your character? Last names are also a plus; this shows effort into the creation of your character. If you are like my character however and can't remember/never had/decided to get rid of your last name, that is okay too. Just remember to write why your character does not have a last name in your biography.

What Race are you?:Kharajyr

Do the research on the races in LotC in the lore section and then pick one.

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race):Hunter (perhaps)

While not strictly necessary, it is nice to show us that you put some effort into researching a sub-race for your character. If you are confused as to what a sub-race is, head over to the Lord of the Craft wiki and all shall be revealed

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.): *takes out a feather and pot of ink and begins to write into an old tatterd journal* After that horrible day when the rock and lava met, crumbling down the mountain side taking the lives of my brothers, sisters, friends and family. I fled. I followed the rest of my people onto boats hoping to get away from this disaster and to clear my mind. Sitting on a dusty corner of the boat (which was a fishing trawler) i sat in deep concentration.. deep thought. I picked up a raw salmon that was lying around and ate it. I didn't feel anything anymore, watching all of this happen not an hour ago my feeling became numb. My heart cold. For a kharajyr of only 21 this was a hard moment. my paws blackened by the ash my bright face sunk with pain and my mind warped with confusion. I can remember quite clearly before the eruption what i was doing. I was talking with my friends we were a good posse a fun group to be around. Although i was one of the quieter ones in the group i had my moments *smiles* haha ohh yes.. i do remember the fun times we had together, I would always burst into song... cheerful tunes and everyone would join in. memories.. only memories now forgotten.......

Please remember to include all of the following: age, appearance, personality and history. A lot of people get denied because they only write their characters history and skip the rest of the question. Also try to stick to the LotC lore as much as possible, you can find all about the LotC lore here on the wiki: http://www.lordofthe...title=Main_Page

What is your Character's ambitions?: To bring pride and honour to my people, to be a successful hunter and to one day maybe support a family of my own, i would also like to study the other races. perhaps even mix in but only faith will decide where and what i do.

This is not what your character is/does currently, but what (s)he/it plans to do in the future. Try to include some short term goals such as getting set up in the world of Aegis, buying a house or making some money, as well as some long term goals which can include becoming rich or buying a mansion. Lastly try to come up with some life-long goals such as controlling her/his/it's incredible rage or making life-long friends.

Perhaps if his ambition is to set up a town you could include that too, but remember setting up towns requires a town charter in the required section of the forums and takes a lot of time, effort and dedication to keep it running. Many have found that they just were not cut out for the amount of stress running a town can generate, so just keep that in mind.

What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc): Bow. as you hunt you realise that stealth is a key factor and therefore you result in the trusty bow. if you are good with it you make a bond. This bond is a factor deciding whether you eat or not.

Do not write a Sword, or a Pick, or an Axe. You need to explain to us WHY your character has that choice of a favourite tool. Did your character grow up with an Axe in their hand? Was your character's mother an expert in Swordsmanship? Explain to us exactly what happened and their reasoning as to why your character likes the tool so much.

What is one of your Character's most skilled talents?: To think.. After all what is one without his own mind. I do not want to be a sheep following his shepard. I want to be the shepard leading a flock to safety. I want to be the person who thinks of solutions to solve harsh problems be it with cooking or war. I want to be the one who will be remembered not forgotten.

Alike to the previous question, this is not just a single sentence, or word answer. Explain all the who's, what's, where's, why's and how's. Get creative with this question, be unique

A screenshot of your skin (must be in proper format):24zip1g.png

The majority of people attach their skin to their post but another way is available to you. I have written a short guide for both PC users and Mac users.

Windows Version

1. Go in-game and press the “F5” button TWICE. (Not once as this will show the back of your character)

2. Take a screen shot by pressing the "PrntScr" button on a windows computer or press F2 on the keyboard, then go to start => Run and type in this: %appdata%/.minecraft/screenshots

3. Find the screenshot and open it in an image manipulation program such as Paint or Gimp.

4. Crop the image so that only the area close to your skin (including the skin) remains.

5. Save the file and go to http://www.tinypic.com

6. Upload the file

7. Click ONCE on the text box underneath: "IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards"

8. Right click and copy the entire text

9. Paste in your new application

Mac Version

1. Go in-game and press the “F5” button TWICE. (Do not press F5 once as this will show the back of your character, if you can only see the back of your character then try pressing it again or open your inventory) *Note* If F5 is bound to another function then open your inventory instead.

2. Take a screen shot by holding down Function and pressing F2 on the keyboard; this will save it to the screenshots directory in your minecraft folder. If F2 is bound to another function you can try any of the following to print screen:

Command-Shift-3: Take a screenshot of the screen, and save it as a file on the desktop

Command-Shift-4, then select an area: Take a screenshot of an area and save it as a file on the desktop

Command-Shift-4, then space, then click a window: Take a screenshot of a window and save it as a file on the desktop

Command-Control-Shift-3: Take a screenshot of the screen, and save it to the clipboard

Command-Control-Shift-4, then select an area: Take a screenshot of an area and save it to the clipboard

Command-Control-Shift-4, then space, then click a window: Take a screenshot of a window and save it to the clipboard

3. Next open the finder and click "Go" in the menu bar. Then type in: Type in “~/Library/Application Support/Minecraft/Screenshots” (without quotes) and you should see your list of screenshots. (If you had F2 bound then search your computer for the screenshot you took instead.)

4. Find the screenshot and open it in an image manipulation program such as Paint or Gimp.

5. Crop the image so that only the area close to your skin (including the skin) remains.

5. Save the file and go to http://www.tinypic.com

6. Upload the file

7. Click ONCE on the text box underneath: "IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards"

8. Right click and copy the entire text

9. Paste in your new application

Other Information about your Character: I can get on well with most people but do not cross my path as i can get a bit... nasty

This is not strictly necessary but it is good to show some extra thinking into your character. Just little tibbits of information which either did not make the cut into your biography, or just do not belong anywhere else in your application.

For example an applicant wrote: "He is stubborn and he likes pork." as a piece of other information. While part of it could be added into the personality part of the biography, it just doesn't completely fit, so it gets put here.

Open-Response-Questions

Many applicants write in a passive past-tense style of writing, which means it includes phrases like: "He would then" or "After that she would". This is unaccepted, because this is not RP. The reasoning behind this is you do not go up to someone and say :"My character would say to your character 'Hello Jim!' and then he would pat you on the shoulder." Instead it is written as "John struts up bob smiling all the while. 'Hello Jim!" John pats Bob on the shoulder as a form of greeting." See the difference?

Another thing is indecision; you need to assume that what you are writing is what had happened. Instead of "If this happens, Bob would do this, or if that happens, Bob would do that", write about what happens and get descriptive!

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond? He walks over to the warriors and asks whats happenning here. they respond by saying "Get lost cat this is none of your concern". He thinks about what he say's , pulls out a small dagger and replies "really?.. leave this poor fellow alone or else feel my wraith". the warriors in turn look deeply into the cats eyes and become semi-hypnotised and back off.

This is one of the most commonly failed Open response question. The reason being is they do not make their character follow the rules or the server, or they powergaming, godmod or just write things extremely unrealisticly. Remember: Revise the rules before writing the open response answers as these are reflections on how you roleplay in game. Write these actively this means like I explained before, do not write "My character would slice at the bandits, and then kick another in the knee." Instead write: "My character slices at the bandits, missing the closest one by mere inches. He then lifts up his knee and sends his foot rocketing forward in a front-kick, attempting to shatter the bandits knee."

Always follow server rules, write creatively but above all be realistic.

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response? Hmm.. i dont think you can help me friend. the shop keeper replies "ohh come now have a look at what i have to offer atleast?". he walks over and takes a look. nothing catches his eye. he takes out 5 minas and gives it to the shop keeper, nod's his head and says goodbye.

This question is the one where most slack off, they just write " 'Greetings shop keeper! I would like some Bacon.' The shop keeper replies: 'Of course sir, that is 50 minas...' " You get the picture. This is extremely boring and unoriginal, there are so many opportunities to write something interesting that the majority of applicants are too busy trying to rush and finish their application they just miss out. Think of something exciting and original or failing that be as descriptive as you possibly can. Describe the sounds of a nearby river, the bustling of the market (or the quietness of it?), the fly buzzing annoyingly around your head, the heat of the sun or the pounding of the rain. It is your story, you make it up.

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?: He leaves them for hope that whoever was here will return.

Alike to my previous comment, be as descriptive or inventive as you can. Also: Have you read and understood the rules? Yes!

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond? ahh brother would you have any food i could perhaps work for? or even spare some.. i have bee travelling for a long long time, lost and had almost given up hope until i stumbled upon you and your settlement.

Again this seems to be one that people are not keen in writing lots about, nevertheless a paragraph (or abouts) is required for each question to show your skill in RP and this is not exempt. There are opporunities beyond belief here awaiting those with the imagination to think of them. This is in the wilderness where there can be monsters or packs of hungry wolves these people are strangers you are hungry and you have no idea who these people are.

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?: He takes a strong vantage point high up where he cannot be seen but can do great damage. the takes his bow loaded with 2 arrows made from a strong bronze head and he hold's his breath and waits for the bandits to attack. he see;s them coming and fires. he aims to maime not to kill so gets them in the leg's where they can then be caught and brought to justice. he is offered the reward but takes half and leaves.

This is another question where people slack off, but thankfully not as much so. This question should be a little more obvious as to the opportunities which can arise from writing about this situation. Make sure to include all the important details of the conversations had and your characters role in it. You do not even have to write about the actual battle (although it is reccomended that you do so, unless you are really good at creative writing and can write enough before the actual fighting begins). Many applicants also assume that they are instantly stronger then bandits, this is not the case, bandits in Lord of the Craft are very powerful and are apt at marauding and killing, so take this into account.
