Leafwind 38 Share Posted July 27, 2011 So I was thinking, and I noticed that our economy is very limited to just buying and selling. I would like to expand that to include auctions. How do Auction Event come about? Auctions would be organized the owner of the auction house and would be advertised, hopefully, with the help of the GMs/Admins. Auctions would only take place whenever enough players could make it to the event. At these auction houses there would selections of items or even property for players to bid on. The items and property would be provided/made by the auction house. My hope would be that auctions would take place daily at 3 in the afternoon. (Eastern Standard Time) This would be subject to change. Money, Commissions, and Finances The bidders' money would go to the city that the auction house is located in. For obvious reasons portions of the money made from the auctions would go to the owner and the host if the owner decides to post a host in his place. I would set a percentage at around 25% to the host and 75% to the owner. (If there is no host then the owner would still only receive 75% and the rest of the money would go to the city so as to influence people to still use Hosts) In order to make auctions less congested with people who probably aren't willing to place large bids, any participant in the auction would have to pay 5% of the final selling price of the item(s) for auction. Limitations Since this would bring in quite a steady income to the establishment the cost of buying an auction house or purchasing a permit to create one would be very expensive (no less then 40,000 minas) and would be limited to one auction house per city/town and 4 auction houses per region. Meaning Malinor gets 4 auction houses in its Elven Cities, Oren gets 4, Krugmar gets 4, and Kal 'Urguan gets 4. Minor towns not existing to any nation would not be allowed to buy an auction house as the Governments of these nations wouldn't grant someone who doesn't owe their allegience to them. What does this mean for You? Well for the average player this means that would be more opportunities to meet up and roleplay with new players, and at the same time purchase new and rare items in a more fun way. This would bring about a whole new atmosphere to the Lore of Trade in Aegis making it richer and better than before. Thanks taking time out of your day to read this and have fun in Aegis! -Leafy [Disclaimer] This is purely and idea and is not implemented in the server. LATEST IDEAS! Okay so my thoughts were these: Auction houses are great and all, but what can you actually get players to WANT to bid on? Well you can put diamond blocks, but the price of the bids gets to a point where it would be cheaper to just buy the diamonds somewhere else for a set price. So we need to find out something that players want, and that they would be willing to places bids on. Here are some things that would work. 1. Property 2. A large number of Rare Items (e.g. 64 glowstone) 3. Services (e.g. bodyguards, tree choppers, miners, builders, farmers,) 4. Skill Points 5. Bonuses Property: Property such as houses, shops, or just empty plots. These types of auctions would be in high demand and would range from very cheap homes, old stalls, and plots to large, expensive, and extravagant homes, shops, or plots. Rare Items: Rare items auctions would consist of items that are generally not found for sale from shop owners. If they were a rather uncommon item, but were still available in a limited stock elsewhere, then players would be able to go the Auction Houses to get large supplies of these items. Services: Services could be anything that we could offer that other people would be willing to do. The Auction House would have to hire these people and they would be payed well. Services would most likely last for only one ((real life)) day. Skill Points: This is where it gets interesting. Now instead of the usual things you might expect from an Auction House, I think it would be a fantastic idea to allow people to bid on "Rare Tomes" or documents. These tomes would include valuable information that people could use to increase their knowledge in various skills. ((Keep in mind that these "Tomes" are completely imaginary. What would really happen is that an Admin would set your skill level to one level, or however many levels the Tome gives you, higher than it was before. This is a fantastic way to increase the grip of Roleplay on players while also removing the unwanted "grinding" of skills.)) Bonuses: ((Now this idea is totally up to what the players want, but I think this would give a lot more back to those players who have nothing to do with their hard earned piles of cash. I mean what else is there to do after you own a home, have a stack of diamonds, and are quite happy with the skills you have now. So here it is. Bonuses would be a new concept that would require a little bit of coding. Bonuses are exactly what the name suggests. Small little add-ons that a player can collect from Auction, and perhaps elsewhere is the future, and use them to define their character further. Such bonuses may include: A spell to infuse your weapon of choice with a name or special power like a command such as replacing dirt with grass wherever you click. It would have to be very, very minor things like that and these bonuses would be VERY expensive. The reason being because we do not need (insert drinking age) year old women running around with a red shroom bound with /lightning. Again that is an exaggeration... Ariana uses brown shrooms as her lightning rod. =d But another tool that would be useful would be one that let's you /ascend with left-click and /descend with right click(if that doesn't work they'd have to have two tools). This makes it so much easier for builders to get on top of their structures to build and could maybe, possibly, have a cooldown for the amount of times you can use it. There are many others simple things that could be granted to players. Other than that, that's pretty much it. One last thing this would require a lot of participation from GMs in order to help supply things such as bonuses, Skill Tomes, Services, and people to actually participate. If you, the community have any more ideas then just post them below. I am sure you will all come up with something great to add to this new feature. Solan (Elite117) 82 Share Posted July 27, 2011 I don't understand why the town would get the lion share of the profit if the establishment is privately owned and players are supplying the goods. But all and all a very good idea!
Leafwind 38 Author Share Posted July 27, 2011 Because imagine how rich the owners would get if it all went to them. Plus it benefits the town they live in as well, and the Government permits you to do this in the hope that there is some money in it for them. Solan (Elite117) 82 Share Posted July 27, 2011 Yes but still..... 25% very slim. It would just deter business. Perhaps something more along the lines of: 40% Item owner 20% Host 40% City
Leafwind 38 Author Share Posted July 27, 2011 Yeah I guess that's more fair

Perhaps something more along the lines of: 40% Item owner 20% Host 40% City No I don't like this either its slightly better but it should be: 75% Item owner 25% Host And then the owner of the house has to pay the city taxes every week and could pay the city for advertising for the event. If you make it so the item owner makes such a small percent and the host makes such a small percent why would anyone use it?
