Alan 1815 Share Posted April 17, 2012 Alright this little announcement is here to clear up a LOT of confusion about involvement in ban reports, and so that the staff can stop handing out warnings to ignorant members. This is posted in server news so that players who have already read the rules will not miss it if it is posted in the Ban Reports section, although it will be placed there as well. First of all let me state that the section which says "People Involved" is there for a reason. It must be your specific name that is mentioned, not your faction or a group that includes you, for example "all the people who live in Alras" is not acceptable! The reason that we have this section is so that the GMs who are reviewing the reports don't have to sift through multiple useless and unneeded replies, it just makes their job harder! Second of all, keep in mind that even if you were very involved there may have been a good reason for the poster of the ban report to not include your name! Maybe they only wanted the MOST involved people, or maybe they only want the accused person and themselves to speak, so this is another reason why you shouldn't post if not listed. Third, for those of you who want to post because you were involved but not listed; if you really want to post that badly, then PM the poster of the ban report so that they can add your name, and only after it is added can you post. If you were really involved and have a lot of evidence that could help, but the poster refuses to add you to the involvement, then PM a GM so that they can review your involvement and potentially add you themselves. Finally, the rules have now been made clear, so anyone who posts without being listed will be warned, and being ignorant of the rules will no longer be an excuse! If you have any questions about something that I missed, then please leave a reply below and we can sort it out. TL;DR - If you aren't listed under the "People Involved" heading in ban reports, then do not post, NO EXCEPTIONS. There are many ways where you can ask to get your name added.

Viper3X 1056 Share Posted April 17, 2012 Thank you for making this announcement. It is irritating when members who are not involved attempt to get entangled in situations. Hopefully this will resolve these issues.

Danny 2232 Share Posted April 17, 2012 This should be linkiped into the server rules. It's on the forum rules, just less specific.

Blundermore 2741 Share Posted April 17, 2012 I'm surpized that being "ignorant of the rules" still stands when this rule has been up now for at least 2 months now. Either people aren't actually taking the time to read the rules or don't really care and break them anyways it seems nowdays. At least with this up now people can't claim no knowing the rules as an excuse now I guess. Although this still isn't going to stop the determind from posting on those ban reports still. The "i know I will get a warning but here is mah view point anyways..." people, will still be out in force. Perhaps increasing how large their warning is each time they do it so that they don't just keep doing it and then wait for their warning bar to go down again. If people continue to post anyways even WITH the "I know I'll get warned but whatever", then we will become more strict with our punishment. Right now it's just a single addition to the warn level, but for people like that we might add three, which might not be a big deal to some but for others that is a temp ban. Juvens 199 Share Posted April 17, 2012 IMHO this rule is good, but it also has its bad sides. Very often people may add important stuff aso. to a ban report. The ban report writer isn't always capable to list all witnessed persons or whatever. I for myself, wouldn't PM the ban report poster to add my name, then wait untill he has done that. Too much time, and too much effort. You should encourage to involve the community in such things, instead of ristricting it. Cheerio
Alan 1815 Author Share Posted April 17, 2012 Juvens, I do agree that restrictions will prohibit a lot of good from happening, but I guarantee you that it will prevent a lot more bad. Restrictions are always this way, it is why we have permissions for regions caused by WorldGuard, and why we only allow GMs certain commands, it is why we only allow FMs and up to have access to the entire forums, etc. etc. The problem is that there will always be a couple people who will take advantage of their privileges and abilities and screw something up. In the case of ban reports, there will always be people who think that they are helping but are in fact making the job for the GMs much harder than it needs to be. Again, you are right that it restricts some good, but removing the strictness will only cause harm.
atticusmas 155 Share Posted April 18, 2012 People aren't warned. They are forum banned for it
Alan 1815 Author Share Posted April 18, 2012 People aren't forum banned for posting in ban reports, people are forum banned because they rack up a certain number of warns and are punished accordingly. I don't mean to sound harsh, but don't make accusations if you don't know the information.
