blindmind 350 Share Posted April 17, 2012 Hey everyone. For those that don't know, I won the Academy of American Poets award at my school, this year. The award ceremony for all the writing awards winners is tomorrow (I'm super excited!), and in honor of Lord of the Craft, I wrote a poem dedicated to Aegis. I hope you enjoy it! Forgot, the North The road sheered through the alpine north, the snowy drift sobered by the sky’s gray smoldering. The path grit its cobbled stone through a lonesome coat of dust, collected through lack of travel. A crow coughed at my passing the first home to an old town. I did not forget, said the shattered oak door, clapping, creaking, hinged in walls of cinder. The town wheezed with an ashen breeze, blackened posts echoing from bygone structures like ribs clasping shriveled lungs, and I scraped up the sticks that were the manse atop the hill, wanting for its warmth. At the town's far side is the lake's empty mirror. Beyond the bridge, a great tower looms, it's battlements broken around the gate's fevered maw, a burgled sentinel fallen on winter, where I stop, before the North's muted expanse. EDIT: While this is something that could be addressed in the poem, after editing, I thought I could explain some things. The subject matter is referring to the Northern area of Aegis, specifically the regions of Alstion and Winterfell, and how my old character Ashdoune (who preferred the cold North) would feel in his journeys through it, after the Undead drove the people from it. There's also a handful of references to Game of Thrones in there, just because LotC took a bunch of inspiration from the series, at the time. If people enjoy the poem, I might retool it a bit, to give it more depth.

blindmind 350 Author Share Posted April 21, 2012 I'm glad you guys are liking it. I don't think I can post the poem that won the contest for me, as it might cause some problems with publishing, down the road. As for this poem, it's right where it belongs.
