Out-Of-Character

Minecraft Account Name:

Llamastan

How old are you?:

16

Time-Zone/Country of Residence:

Pacific Standard Time, Canada

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?:

Yes, English is my first language.

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself:

A grade 10 high school student who has a lot of free time on his hands :P. Minecraft is my main past time, and I enjoy playing on PVP servers and creating skins. I love all sorts of fantasy and science fiction novels, such as A Song of Ice and Fire and the Culture series by Iain M Banks.

How much time could you be on the server weekly?:

40+ hours a week, if I become really dedicated to this server.

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you:Roleplaying is the activity of putting yourself into a character's shoes and acting out their life. It is escaping the real world and becoming a warrior, a mage or a king in a different world. It could take place in a video game or in a real life game such as Dungeons & Dragons. Roleplaying usually takes place with other people who are also roleplaying, who act out various characters. Together, the roleplayers act out a unique story in a plot that they create, in a setting that often does not exist in the real world.

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?: I haven't had a whole lot of experience, however I played very briefly on a minecraft RP server called Fallout: War Never Changes. Also, I have played numerous RPG video games, and dabbled in a very dumbed down version of Dungeons & Dragons. On a PVP server I often play on, I helped add some RP aspects to the community by creating medieval skins for factions on the server and giving an RP theme to my own faction.

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is:

It is when a person uses information gained OOC to do something in roleplay. An example of meta gaming could be if a person is chatting with their friend on the server who has a base in a far away area OOC about how they found a castle, and they proceed to go on the server and run straight to the castle. In other words, instead of playing the game using the knowledge that your character has obtained, you are using your own knowledge. It is ignoring the rules of roleplaying while in a roleplaying setting. It often overlaps with Power-Gaming, and is a serious offence on LordOfTheCraft.

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is:

Power Gaming has a few definitions, but this is probably the one most applicable to LordOfTheCraft. Performing an action in roleplay that forces another player to do a certain thing, without giving them a chance to affect the situation or respond. For example, a player who is Power Gaming could use an emote like this:* I cast a spell on you that makes you die and your head explode* This is an example of power gaming because the target of the spell can't do anything about it. A version of this action that is less taboo and less to do with Power Gaming could be *I attempt to cast a spell of explosion on you*. Power Gaming is a big no no because it takes away control of the roleplaying experience from other roleplayers and makes your character an almighty god.

What do you expect this server will be like?:

An immersive experience with a beautiful world. A hugely populated server where I can fit a niche for my character and become a part of the story.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?:

Right now I play on Elysian Kingdoms, a midsized PVP server. I haven't left it, but I am looking to play about 50/50 on both servers. I decided to look for a different server because our faction is one of the most powerful, we have a giant impenetrable obsidian base and we can't be challenged. There is nothing to do other than just run around our base. I also used to play on a tiny server called MuggerCoast, which I left because few people played.

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?:

Yes, I have read, understood, and agree to the rules. They mostly seem like common sense rules, or rules that exist to enforce a believable RP setting.

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules:Yes, I promise to abide by all the rules of the server.

How did you hear about us?:

By browsing the Minecraft forums, long long ago (when the thread first began). I never got around to posting an application, and eventually got side tracked and joined various other servers, but this one has always seemed interesting to me.

Have you previously made an Application? If so could you link us to your last Application?: Yep.

In-Character:

Character Name:

Yoren Umber

What Race are you?:

Human.

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race):

Northerner, through and through.

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.):

"Are ye sure ya want to know my story? The story of Yoren Umber? It is a gruesome story, full o' betrayal and bloodshed. Ah well, ya might regret askin' me after I'm done, but here it goes. Twenty eight years ago, or somethin' like that,(Me father never did keep track o' me birthday), I was born in a cold, drafty little cottage in the depths o' winter. Me mother died givin' birth to me, and once I was old enough me brother told me he was never the same after she died. We worked hard on the farm, workin' measly little potatoes out of the harsh rocky soil. Our little farmstead was near the castle of Winterfell, deep in the frosty north. But anyways, one day, long before the undead came, our farm got raided by bandits. Me and me father were choppin' wood behind the cottage, while me brother was tillin' the fields. We heard my only brother scream, and rushed to the field. He was runnin' from a bandit mounted on a horse when one of the bandit's buddies shot him in the back with an arrow. My father charged up to the bandit on the horse, woodcutting axe raised, but the horsemen lopped off his head with a single stroke of the sword. I was only ten at the time."

"Luckily for me I managed to escape the bandits by hiding in a haystack. After they were gone, I took to the road, wandering aimlessly on the brink of starvation. Eventually, after many days of desperation , I was found by a roving group of mercenaries. They took me in, taught me how to wield a sword and all the dirty tricks o' fightin'. It was a hard life, but the truth is, I was happy. The mercenary clan became me new family. We helped hunt evil bandits together, and I even took part in the killing, although me favourite part was when the mercenaries told me the stories of great battles they had fought. I was still a lad then, but I grew up with them til I was a man. Then, the betrayal happened. A fellow had joined us, a couple o' months before it happened. He seemed fair enough, but a little bit of a craven. One day, after a particularly gruesome battle with undead, he disappeared for what we thought was a huntin' trip. He came back with a horde of bandits, and surrounded us. We were all to be brought to their hideout an' killed. Our leader resisted, killing one of the thugs, but he was cut down. A fight broke out and most of us were either killed or captured. We marched for what seemed like weeks, with little on our backs but rags. Our blades and armour were stolen. Finally, I saw an opening for an escape. One night the bandits guarding us got themselves completely drunk. Me hands were tied to a post with rope, but there was a pointed rock close to me. I scraped and scraped that blasted rope against that rock for hours, and finally managed to cut free and escape. I don't know what happened to them other mercenaries, but I wager they're all dead now. I swore that one day I will make a new mercenary group and make a living huntin' wrongdoers. One day, I will see the evil bandit's punished for their deeds. But for now, all I've got going for me is a healthy thirst for ale and a strong sword arm."

(Appearance/personality of my character)

Black, straggly hair, roughly combed to the side to reveal piercing greenish blue eyes. Chin with heavy stubble, and thick eyebrows. One ear has an earring, and he wears leather armour over rusted chainmail that leaves his somewhat muscled arms exposed except for leather arm bands around his wrist. His skin is fairly pale. Yoren respects strength more than he does noble status, but he will grudgingly bow down to a noble if it means further personal advancement for him. He is 28 years old. He has a love of ale and the simple things in life, such as wenches, gold, and mead.

What is your Character's ambitions?:

To build a wandering crew of mercenaries that will rid the land of evil doers, and acquire wealth. Eventually he hopes to settle down in a kingdom.

What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc):

Without a doubt, his sword.

What is one of your Character's most skilled talents?

He is a fairly good swordfighter, and is knowledgeable about farming. He hopes to improve his leadership skills in the future.

Other Information about your Character:

Yoren is greedy, and a bit seedy looking, but he s trying to improve his reputation in the kingdom. He is also often reckless and cocky when it comes to fights. Sometimes he will take a direct confrontation over a more subtle approach, and get defeated as a result.

Open-Response-Questions

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond?

Yoren cockily strides up to the fighting trio.

"Ello you three. Mind tellin' me whats goin' on here?"

One of the warriors brusquely replies: "This ain't your business, you grubby sod."

Yoren ignores him and turns to the terrified halfling. "How much money would you be willin' to pay me to save your hide, little imp?"

"You can have all the minas in my purse!"

The second the halfling reached the word "minas", Yoren raised his sword in the air to bring it down on one of the warriors. However, before he could finish the blow, the other warrior punched him in the gut and knocked him unconscious.

"Ugh, where am I? What the hell happened?" Yoren wakes up, hours later.

"Where is my coin purse!? What happened to my sword?" Yoren gets up, and suddenly realizes what happened.

"Those damned thieves... I'l find them and get back every last minas they stole from me! Oh, and that halfling too."

Yoren runs down the road at a quick pace, completely unaware that the thieving warriors went in the opposite direction.

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response?

"I have no need of your gold and finery, rich man. What I purchase is good ale and fine blades. "

Yoren walks away, leaving the merchant staring at him. He proceeds to stride into a tavern and get completely drunk.

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?:

Yoren walks around the hut, examining it and looking for traces of what could have happened. He comes across a rotting corpse, left there by marauders. He digs a shallow grave for the person and buries some of the goods in the hut with him. However, he keeps the golden sword and iron bars.

"I bet this golden sword is worth quite the pretty minas back in Alras, and I'l wager I could get a nice blade made with these bars."

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond?

"'Ello there kind sirs. You sort look like the kind of people the bandits in the woods would like to raid. Howabouts I offer you free protection services in exchange for just a lil' bit of ale and food!"

"Why, your offer is quite kind, wary traveler. Why don't you stay with us for a while and come with us as we travel."

"Whereabouts are you headed?"

"Why, only the fine kingdom of Hanseti! I'm sure a fine swordsman such as yourself would be greatly appreciated there."

"Aye, that he would. I'l guard ya until we reach there. Thank you for yer hospitality!"

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?:

Yoren immediately decides to help the guards. But instead of fighting the bandits in open battle, he sneaks out of town and meets with the bandits in secret, hoping to be able to assassinate them one by one as they sleep.

"Hello there fellows. I was hopin' to help you get inside that there town!", Yoren exclaims.

One of the bandit leaders replies: "Hah, you look the sort that could handle himself in a fight!"

The bandits let him join them around the fire.

"Hey Gronn, remember that time we cut off those nuns heads and gave them to the townsfolk! Ha ha ha!" "And then that other time where we tied the villagers to trees and left them for the wolves!?" Yoren sat stony faced as he listened to the bandit's tell about their atrocities.

"These fools will get what's comin' to em", Yoren muttered. While the rest of the bandits were sleeping, Yoren silently got up and attempted to cut the leader's throat. However, the brigand wakes up, and Yoren runs back to town, the bandits in hot pursuit.

"Come out, the bloody bandits are comin'!" Yoren yells.

"What the hell are ya doing, scruffy?! Most us are are asleep!", one of the guards exclaims. Yoren just barely makes it through the gate before the bandits reach him, and he helps the guards fight them.

"So guard, where's me bounty?" Yoren asks, after the fight is done.

"You aren't getting a single shred of metal, you stupid sod! You nearly let the bandits into town, and almost let them catch us off guard!" the head of the guard replied.

"You can keep your grubby clipped coppers, you cheap lout" he mutters, before skulking off to the inn.
