Unpaid Debts - Business Opportunity

As (and if) you approach the Cloud Temple, you spot a rather glum, downtrodden looking man sitting on the temple steps. He seems to be gazing down at his hands, where two items are clutched by his thin, malnourished looking hands. Moving closer out of intrigue - or perhaps greed, who knows - you look at the two items. One is a painted canvas, of a building. You peer closer at it, trying to get a good view.

The Painting in the Man's Hand.

9Z2tw.jpg

You note how the picture looks like it was torn from a canvas, and is rather weather-torn and beaten. You look at the other item in the man's hand - a diary page. The hand that wrote it deemed fit to write in a rather elegant yet illegible font. You wonder why the man hasn't seen you yet. Almost as if he could hear your thoughts, the man looks up sullenly and asks "Are you here to rob me as well? I ain't got much more to take, so you'd better go elsewhere"

You decide you may want to ask the man something. Otherwise, you may carry on.

Responses

>Asking about the building in the photo

Ah. That'd be Namskeio, my home. But not for much longer, I am sad to say. The Debt collectors are closing in on me, and this is the last location I can stay. Hopefully the monks will take pity on me and not put me in with the cabbages to rot.

Further Responses;

>Odd name for a place.

It's in my native tongue, it means "Workshop". Quite fitting, seeing as though my father used to make Instruments for a living.

Further Responses

>Instruments?

Yes, my father used to craft the finest musical instruments in the land. That's all for naught now, though, since he's dead and... well, let's just say buried for our sake. And his trade? Lost forever, like my home will soon be. Bastard."

>Go back and choose another Response, or leave.

>Inquiring about the Man's debt.

Yep. I'm a hair's-breadth out of the Debtor's jaws. My father up and got himself killed, leaving a massive debt upon me. And I have no way to pay it back! Damn old coot, always said i'd run myself into a rut and die there.

Further Responses;

>Debtors?

Yes, Debtors. They want to claim the money my father loaned to build Namskeio. They've chased me all over Asulon. One moment i'll think I've escaped them, next minute they pop back up again!

Further Responses;

>Can I pay your Debt for you?

Sure, be my guest. You can take that damned house too, I don't want it. Too many ruined memories for me to live there.

>You may make a deal with the man, as seen in the OOC section of this post.

>Asking about the Diary page

Tis part of my father's diary. I've been lookin' through all the pages to try and find a will somewhere... not having much luck, sadly.

Further Responses

>Father's Diary

Yes. My father had a obsession with scribin' what he did. I suppose he knew it would be useful someday. It's just a shame his handwriting is so bad and he talks utter drivel half the time.

>Go back and choose another response, or leave.

>Asking why the Man is so depressed looking.

Hah! I have everything to be depressed about. No home, no money, no family, not even any lousy ale... my life is worse than a Orc "Pet", hah! Anyway, i'm busy - did you have anything else to ask me? Anything important? I doubt it, from the amount of intelligence you display.

>Go back and choose another response, or leave

>Asking why the man seems thin and weak looking.

You would be too, if you had to live off toenail clippings!

...that was a joke.

>Roll your eyes and choose another response, or leave.

OOC: I built Namskeio a fair while back, as a side project for a fairly large event. However, due to me being busy with GM duties, I haven't been able to do said event - and probably won't be able to for a while.

So, instead, i'm putting it to best possible use by selling it. You may buy it from this man for 15000 minas - the price of his rather hefty debt. The money will be given to various entertainment establishments around Asulon (Since this man is very fond of the... finer side of life.).

The "Building" itself is a large, nordic-esque long-house, complete with a small mead hall (With added fireplace and overhead beams to sneak around on.), as well as several empty rooms and a attic. There is also a small watchtower/place to sit and read a nice book in the roof.

The main building is surrounded by a perimeter wall, which is fully covered and has a walkway around. There are two extra, empty sections inside the perimeter wall for you to utilize as you wish.

Oh, there's also a dock. Minus a boat. It sunk.

The river itself has access to both seas, although one river route passes through Orcish territories, so be warned.

And yeah, that's about it, really. Here's some pictures to help you vision it better. (With lots of different Texturepacks, so you can get a feel for it.)

*A dark, cloaked man walks up to the man*

If I were to pay this debt, where would this place be? I don't know whether or not I'd be walking into the "No-man's land".

*the man looks up and sighs, adjusting his cloak and patting down his rag-cloth trousers.*

"I'd give you a map, but I don't have one. It's west of the Orcish War-club or whatever it's called. Far enough west to be safe, anyway."

*Alanna listens to the man and stranger speak and finally she speaks herself*

Does this need to be in minas or could your debt also be payed off with rare gems?

*Looks down taking pity, asking with confusion in his voice*

How much is your debt anyway? Can't be THAT much...to make you like this...I think on the thousands minas...

[[it says in the OOC section, although you may haggle, or trick him, etc.]]

*the man looks up again, sees the familiar face*

You're a persistant one, aren't you? My debt is more than your entire life savings, I'd bet. It's fifteen-ten-tenscores, if you're interested.

*turns his head to the woman*

I'm getting popular... Yes, yes. I'd take "Rare gems" too. Although, I must warn you, I'm good at spotting fakes. It comes with being a obsessive gambler you see?

[[My character doesn't know so yeah]]

*Is extremely surprised at the expensive cost of the place*

T-that is just below the amount of minas I have saved up fighting black, dark, Iblees-like creatures.

It is too big for one to occupy from the looks of your painting...

Any fear of getting raided when you were living there?

*Captain Peter Chivay approaches the scene with two Bannermen accompanying him at his side, with a cocky strut he walks up to the man, asking the adjacent questions.

After his long inquiry, a small grin dawns upon Peter's face. He states, "How does a full set'ah diamond armor sound? Sell it to any soldier, and you'll be beyond yer' debts... and more." Flips his visor up, "Maybe ye' won't even have to pay those debts with this armor..." Winks at the man, then flips his visor back down.

*After finishing said statement, Peter crocks his stance up-ward, now sizing up the rest of the crowd that had gathered around the man. Letting out a stout chuckle to re-assert his offer.

*Vanya sits down on the steps a little away from the dirt man, biting into an apple she's been polishing. She listens with mild interest as the glum man talks about his problems to strangers*

Well... I do happen to know a place person who owes me so much iron that even if you sold it for dirt you'd easily fix any dept you have.. Only if you're interested that is, and the place ain't no hole out beyond the safety of civilization."

((is it regioned?))

*asks another question after the others*

How much would each gem be worth in Minas to you?

((Diamond: Gold: Iron: and others if possible.))

*Celia approaches the man and hears his story.*

"Fourty diamonds? That's enough to pay off your debts and give you a little home somewhere peaceful. I need to see the house first though. I require a -complete- search of the home."

-snip-

The man looks up, with a strange look on his face, as the three men approach him, clanging along the street like some kind of musical band (although slightly less musical and more... noisy.)

"Well, I hash tae admit, i'm not mush of a fighter - unlesh t'e battlefield ish the bedroom, that is ... hic!

-the man winks slightly, leaning towards the armoured man. He falls over and does a rather gracious roll, before staggering to his feet, looking somewhat confused. He looks incredulously down at his flask of cabbage wine, wondering just how strong this "Relaxer" as the monks put it, really was.-

"

You should try this stuff matey, its... wuh...?"

-he shakes his head, and tries to focus on the man.-

"Oh, right. A suit of diamond armour you say? Shounds like a... good deal! I can drink to that! "

he clangs his flask against Peter's visor and chugs it down.-

"Now, about where th' houshe is... I'll tell you the directshuns now...

The man draws a vague map on a piece of dog-eared paper, and hands it to Peter.

"I echspect my armour... soon... i'ma gawna go out and fighst them bad guish..."

He collapses on the floor and falls asleep.

((The deal has been made. I understand it was not the best one given, but the man is... rather drunk, and open to rather forward negotiations, such as the one about standing up to the debtors with the armour.

The co-ordinates of the house are roughly -2500, -2200. There will be a NPC outside named "Drunk man". Equip the armour onto him and I will add you to the region.))
