Out-Of-Character

Minecraft Account Name: Podiddle

How old are you?: 23

Time-Zone/Country of Residence: GMT -5:00

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?: Indeed.

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself: I consider myself to be a fairly narcissistic fellow who revels in his own accomplishments, no matter how small they may be. However, this does not mean I take my own desires into consideration before others; quite the opposite. I devote nearly every second I'm not forced to be somewhere else to playing some manner of game.

How much time could you be on the server weekly?: 10-15hrs/week

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you: Roleplaying is the act of placing yourself into the consciousness of a character (fictional or otherwise) and living/executing actions as this character would. It is the act of shedding personal beliefs and habits to follow the ones set by this character. It is spiritually and mentally attaching yourself to another being in another world and watching them play out their lives through a first person perspective.

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?: I've played Dungeons and Dragons for several years as well as DM'd for WotC official sanctioned games. I've played Palladium Games' Rifts and have about 14 years of playing various RP MUDs including Dreamscapes, Achaea, Aetolia, A.V.A.T.A.R., etc.

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is: It is basing a decision a character would make on pre-existing knowledge that only someone out of character would know. This is generally bad for proper roleplay.

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Emoting is: Power-Emoting is deciding for another player what their action will be based on the action you have taken without their consent (or possibly knowledge).

What do you expect this server will be like?: I honestly have no expectations as to how the server will run or how its people will react to certain stimuli. I don't know how in-depth things have really gotten so it's hard to make an accurate expectation.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?: I've played on around 5 or 6 other servers since SMP came out. I left most of them because they degraded into a small player base and the admins just not doing their job. Two of them I left because I disagreed with the way the admins were running the server (spawning things for certain people and not others).

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?: I have.

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules: Indeed, I do.

How did you hear about us?: A reddit post the owner of the server submitted about his birthday.

Have you previously made an Application? If so could you link us to your last Application?: No.

In-Character:

Character Name: Darnek Firehammer

What Race are you? (You may only be Human, Orc, Elf or Dwarf!) : Dwarf

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race): Mountain Dwarf

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.): The Firehammer family is descendant of a line sculptors and architects that worked to build great cities and castles. However, that was several hundred years ago. The Firehammer name currently holds little value to what it used to. Darnek's father is a minor figure in the northern city of Karak, although he makes the money required for sustenance by working tirelessly building houses and huts for the local lowborn. Darnek's mother died in the process of giving birth and his father has never forgiven him for taking her away. His father puts on a facade of a caring demeanor to others, but the truth is obvious to Darnek. Throughout childhood, Darnek's father rarely spoke to him aside from the declaration of meal time. Darnek often played with sticks and stones he found on the ground, pretending they were hammers or axes and eventually fashioning himself a stone hammer. Day after day Darnek would wave it around smashing random things into the dust as if he had just slain a thousand enemies. One day, he was approached by a very old looking dwarf who felt a spark in Darnek much like his own. He snatched away his makeshift stone hammer and handed him a real, steel warhammer much to his amazement. He hid the hammer from his father through childhood fearing he would take it and sell it, although he practiced every day while his father was away working. Darnek was able to hide the hammer well into adolescence and thought he would be able to do so forever. This was not the case.

Eventually Darnek's father found out about the valuable commodity his son was carrying. As predicted, his father demanded he hand over the warhammer to be sold on the market. Darnek refused and his father forced him out of his home. Having nothing but contempt for his father, he fled the city with just his hammer and the clothes on his back heading south. Eventually he came across the Golddust Adventuring Company and found a job with them providing protection. He hadn't really honed any skills at the time, but eventually became proficient with his warhammer through painstaking journeys and defense from assaults. At the age of 22 he had gained a name for himself in the company as a proficient fighter, architect, and builder. He'd designed many villages and homes as well as defended them and made a fair bit of coin in the process. It has been one year since then and he has left the Adventuring company in hopes of settling a place of his own to restore his family to what it once was and higher.

Appearance: His torso maintains most of the height as it stretches him to near 2'6''. His long, fiery red hair flows behind him as his braided red beard extends to the bottom of his chest. He has a single scar on his right cheek extending to his chin where a sword had grazed him. His emerald green eyes appear to glow atop his slightly large nose. His muscular body is visible through his clothing and he carries himself with an almost narcissistic pride.

Personality: He tends to be harsh in his dealings with others who he feels are inadequate in comparison, although he doesn't outright offend them. He believes himself to be superior to many in quite a few aspects, but will attach himself to a select few who he feels are within his range of superiority. He often ignores those he believes to be an outright waste of his time, though.

What are your Character's ambitions?:

His short term goal is to have a plan for a village set up. However, his ambition ultimately wants him to be at the top of the kingdom. He wants to create a place where anyone would want to follow him. He wants to change the way the world sees him.

What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc): His favorite tool is a hammer. As explained in the biography, he grew up playing with stone toys until someone gave him the weapon he uses today. Hammers are also widely used for various building aspects.

What is one of your Character's most skilled talents? His most skilled talents include architecture and building. His family comes from a long line of builders and architects whose characteristics seem to have been passed on to Darnek.

Open-Response-Questions

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond? Darnek notices that two armed men look to be harassing a small creature in the distance, but doesn't think much of it. "Weak things." Darnek grumbles to himself as he travels on to his mountain home. Feeling a slight sense of pride in his own strength, he gently puffs out his chest in his own form of assertive dominance and a tiny grin begins to grace his Dwarven face.

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response? Darnek looks the merchant dead in the eye and says "what are your wares, lad." The merchant, being a fairly tall, scrawny human looks down at Darnek. "OOOOOOHHHHHH what a cute little thing you are! I could just gobble you up you scrumptious little thing, you!", the merchant exclaims in pure, absolute delight. Just as a smile seems to be dancing across the merchant's face, a rather large grimace begins to creep over Darnek's. The merchant continues his cooing over the dwarf's small stature while Darnek's rage begins to build. "Hooooowwww did a tiny thing like you get all the way over here!? Aren't you just the cutest little thing!", the merchant spouts once more. Darnek's skin begins to turn a slight red-orange color. Finally, his patience has taken its toll. "YA BREATHE ANOTHER WERD YA SKINNY BEAST, I'LL BE PRESENTIN' YER LEGS TA ME FAITHFUL HAMMER!", Darnek snaps. His breathing is now extremely heavy and his chest sticks out like a rock on a cliff face. The merchant simply stands there and dons a complete stoic look on his face. "Hrmph", Darnek huffs as he walks away proudly having felt as if he had just defended his honor. As he walks, however, the merchant's voice creeps across the wind. "OOOHHHHHHHHH what a cuuuttee thing you are!", the merchant exclaims to another unsuspecting victim.

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?: Darnek wanders into the small hut in search of whatever food stores may be inside. The walls look to have some overgrowth on them, indicating the place has been abandoned for quite some time. Darnek's eyes gleam with greed as he stares into the chest. "Looks like it be mah lucky day!", he exclaims. Darnek's hands reach in to grab the sword, but just before he touches it, some rustling is heard in the leaves and branches crack. He notices a small pile of crates and launches himself behind them, hiding cautiously. Two humans then stroll into the hut, conversing with each other as if they've been there before. "...she told me I wasn't going to be anything special. I might have believed her, but...", one says to the other. "Haha! She may be right!", exclaims the other. The two have a hearty laugh as they stop over the chest. "Nothing in here again, today...", the human says as he sighs in discontent. "How are we supposed to make any money if we don't have anyone to ransom!", screams one human at the other. "We'll think of something! We always do!", exclaims the other as they walk out the entrance to the hut. Darnek sighs in relief over his good fortune and waits for the opportune time to head back into the wilds.

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond? Darnek, breathing heavily from increased fatigue and hunger, brushes away a few branches of leaves before stumbling upon something he never guessed he would see again: civilization. Having been chased to the brink of collapse by what appeared to be a pack of cheetahs, he crawled his way forward by shear power of will through uncharted wilds, eventually running across what looks to be a camp. Upon approach, several dark-skinned dwarves with oddly short beards greet Darnek. "Greetin's lad! Welcome to the Ardeth Trading Post!", one screams with a beaming smile on his face. "How'd ya find yer way out here? Most come from the north. Not many o' you southern folk.", continued another. "I...I was just lookin for....for some adventure!", whispered Darnek still exhausted from his previous encounter. "Adventure, eh? From the looks of it, you've had all the adventure yer gonna need for a while, lad!", one of the denizens exclaims with a hearty laugh. Several others overheard the comment and begin to laugh as well. Slightly embarassed, Darnek tries to change the subject. "How about some pork meat and some ale? If yeh haven't noticed, I be a bit weathered.", says Darnek. "Ale? HA! We haven't seen ale since the last age! Water's what we trade in, lad. Shouldn't cross the desert without it!" replies one of the dwarves. "Desert? What desert? We're in a jungle!", exclaims Darnek. "Follow me, lad.", says one of the dwarves. As they move through the trading post, Darnek notices that it's surprisingly populated for a place far from any known civilization. Many dwarves and a few orcs look to be buying and selling their wares here. "How unusual" Darnek thought. As they move past the camp, the dwarf begins to brush away a few branches, beckoning Darnek to follow. Finally, they approach what looks like a giant wall of leaves that appears to stretch to the sky! "This can't be right.", says Darnek. "Ah, but it be not wrong, lad.", says the dwarf. The dwarf then begins to pull off leaves methodically that immediately begin to regrow! The dwarf finishes pulling leaves, then turns and give a wide smile to Darnek. "Welcome to Akathor Desert." As soon as those words are spoken, branches begin to quickly unravel. Leaves begin to disappear and an archway begins to take shape, revealing a vast pit of sand and heat on the other side. Footprints litter the entrance, but fade as they track farther away. "H...H..how?", whispers Darnek, lost in amazement. "When you begin to question is when you truly become lost, lad.", replies the dwarf.

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?: Darnek begins to wander to the Glad Fist Tavern, his favorite pub in all of Barath. However, his peaceful walk is interrupted the moment he walks from the Inn. "ALL GATHER HERE! ALL GATHER HERE!", screams a dwarf garbed in armor at the mass in front of him. "WE'VE BEEN ROBBED AND STOLEN FROM FOR FAR TOO LONG! THEY THINK THEY'VE BEATEN US! THEY THINK WE'LL JUST KNEEL FOR THEIR WISHES! WE WILL NOT! WE WILL FIGHT! AND WE NEED YOU TO HELP US!" The dwarf is quickly joined by two others wearing the same armor. "Fight what?", thinks Darnek as he approaches the gathering crowd who appear to be really getting into the spirit of the rally. "THEY'VE STOLEN AND BEATEN US TIME AND TIME AGAIN, BUT NO LONGER! I OFFER A REWARD TO ANY WHO WILL ASSIST IN THE DESTRUCTION OF THE STONEMOUNTAIN BANDITS!", screams the dwarf. Many in the crowd begin to yell and rally along with him. Darnek feels delight in the possibility of a good fight ahead and joins in. "MEET THE TOWN GUARD ALONG WITH MYSELF AT MIDNIGHT! WE'LL BE RID OF THEM UNDER THE STARS!", exclaims the dwarf once more. Darnek nods with content that he'll be able to bloody his hammer once more. After a good full day and night of drinking, Darnek heads to the lamp post under which the war party is supposed to meet an hour early in giddy anticipation. An hour passes slowly for Darnek as he paces back and forth under the light. Finally three figures can be seen in the shadows and the three guards at the rally appear under the post light. The guards immediately let a confused look slip across their faces. "......you're it? You're all we have?" Darnek immediately recognizes the situation and his frustration soars. "What do ya mean 'you're it'. Where are yer people? What the hell was that rally for?" The guards let their faces gently fall into the palms of their hands. "Sorry lads, but I guess it's just us.", says the head of the guard. "What do ya mean 'just us'? Ya think we can take down a whole bandit company by ourselves? HA!", replies Darnek. "If we can catch them by surprise, maybe we could give them a message by killing a few of their men?", asks one of the lesser guards. "I suppose that could work.", replies the head guard. "Aye, that could work. The name is Darnek by the way.", says Darnek. "Bagrath is my name and these are the two town guardsmen, Gald and Keldor.", says the head guard. "Well met, Bagrath, Gald, and Keldor. Now what is the plan.", replies Darnek. "We'll start by having you go to their camp and drawing the attention of their lookouts. While you're doing that, we'll sneak inside and slaughter any we see and get out at the first sign of organized resistance.", says the head guard explaining the plan in detail to Darnek and the others. "Let's get this going, then!", exclaims Darnek. As they begin to walk toward the bandits' camp, the guards begin to fade away in the darkness as planned. He spots one of the lookouts and begins to throw rocks in their direction all while laughing mercilessly. The lookouts begin to give chase and Darnek runs in the direction of the town as fast as he can, laughing all the way. Just then, he trips over what felt like a rope of some sort. Before he can even stand, a blunt object strikes him on the head, knocking him unconscious. When he awakes, the sun has already risen and his mouth is dry as cotton. He realizes he is in some sort of cage in the bandit camp! "Oh, you're awake.", sounds a familiar voice. Darnek turns to face the voice. The image is slightly blurry, but he makes out the silhouette of a man he's met before. "Bagrath. You...yer....yer one o' them?", whispers Darnek. "Yes, Darnek. Welcome to hell.", says Bagrath as he lets out a slight chuckle.

Anything else you would like to say?: I'm quite fond of roleplaying and would love to see whether or not this server lives up to its hype.

Great job with all your definitions. It shows your understanding of basic RP.

The same with your biography. Very well written. Along with that, you did a great job of implementing lore into your biography.

The same with your ORQs. You RP a dwarf very well. A wonderful job~

A great job overall with your application. Congratulations.
