*you see a note posted on a nearby announcement board in Ildon or Arethor*

I am in need of diamonds. 19 to be exact. I will pay a fair amount for them and need them quickly.

If you are willing to sell them to me, Send a bird to Solace addressed to Ser Shieldings.

You REALLY need to post more RP in this. Simply putting "you see a note posted on a nearby board" is not good enough. Also, do not power-game things onto my character saying he's seeing something when he isn't even in the said area. Thanks.

((I do not believe that to be Powergamed. But ok.

*spot's the note and writes under it "I sell you my diamonds for 325 a piece, if interested send a bird to Eli Stevens" (jordangaming)

It is, since you're forcing an action upon one's character.

((look at pretty much every other post in trade. Care to call them out on it to?

((He has a point))

*Jess walks by the notice board in Arethor when he sees a new note pinned there. He steps up and reads it before adding a response at the bottom of the poster*

Shieldings, I've got two diamonds I could see you. How much are you willing to pay?

((Considering these posts are in RP, and you're looking at them, simply saying "You read the note" isn't forcing anything upon anyone. When you access the post you're basically reading the note in RP, so hence, this isn't PG in the slightest.

((Because others do it makes it right? I tend to crack down on powergaming trade messages when I read them. Please change it to be less powergamed.))

((You are forcing an action upon another's character. You cannot attribute myself opening and reading a post to my character reading it. That would be metagaming. What if (as is true in many of these cases) my character does not frequent the areas stated where the note is posted? The correct way to say it would be "[your character's name] posts a note..." or "A note is posted...". See how that does not force actions upon another's character?

Out-of-character actions do not translate to in-character actions. I normally read these posts to ensure they are abiding by role-play, that does not mean my character spends her time travelling the world and reading each and every trade note to ensure they make sense.))

((Don't mean to argue with staff, but I've got nothing better to do I guess :/. I agree that "doing it because everyone else does" is a childish excuse and I personally don't support it, BUT; I still don't think it's MG to emote the person picking up/beginning to read a flier. I mean, like I said before, it's an RP topic, and if you read something and are responding to it, it means you read it in RP, so it would seem justified to say in an emote that the reader actually looked at the paper, correct? To respond to "my character does not frequent the areas stated where the note is posted?", I say that then you're not reading it in RP, but just for the benefit of yourself irl. So therefore, we're not forcing your character to read, being as that's impossible if you don't pass by it, it's just for you to check it out OOC for whatever reason. So what's the problem with saying that you read the note? Before you do any sort of action to or about the paper, you have to read at least part of it, or it wouldn't make sense. I mean, I guess you could just randomly go on and emote *tears down the flier* before even reading it... But that'd be troll RP if I'm not mistaken... Anyway, this interests me, and I'd like to know your response to it, being as it could help my Roleplay, and if I'm wrong, everyone else's. Thanks.

((The problem is that is the definition of power-emoting, forcing another character's actions upon them, and that is against the server rules. I don't appreciate opening a thread to be greeted with being told what my character is doing. It states, whether or not my character would actually read the note or even see it, that my character reads it. That is the problem.

Out-of-character actions do not translate over to in-character, so you cannot say that just because someone read a thread their character read a note in-character, since that would be metagaming.

And yes, if someone wished, they could tear down the flyer. After all, it is a note posted in various places around Asulon.))

(( As highlighted by Znes6, if it you are reading this, You are reading it but if your not in the general areas, then it is impossible for you to read it. Therefore, you don't post here. But Im not forcing you to read this, you clicked here and read through my topic also, I don't do this because everyone does it, I do it so I can trade my items effectively. By you doing this whole "its power gaming thing" all you are doing is making people agitated and getting nowhere as the point has no base because of the fact that I give areas that the notes are in, so if your not in those areas your not reading it but if you are in the general areas and you click here then your reading it
