Alec 269 Share Posted November 28, 2012 Do not like; the least you could've done is wrote lore for it to have been in Asulon. Can't play my character. :( No, the least we could have done is to not start the server up at all. I personally went through two days of coding nether to bring the server back up. It's only temporary, but necessary before we continue, because salvaging plugins and configuration is what this world will be all about, before we move on towards 3.0. You can always make a new character for this temporary world! We need players Roleplaying here, it's technically a test server, but with an alternate universe twist. MetaSolaray 242 Share Posted November 28, 2012 As for the kicking people in the nuts who joined after this event, I believe is largely false, Yes I can't play Meta shipwrecked, which btw would have been funny as sin since he hates the sea, but I found other ways to play and have large amounts of fun The origins of Meta himself, his parents :P Grandparents, or even a new character I LOVE the temp server idea x3 can't wait to get off work Thanks we owe you a big bukkit of lava Alec
lιoɴ 248 Share Posted November 28, 2012 Yeah, I don't like it because, once again, the food and the people who came after Aegis.
Juvens 199 Share Posted November 28, 2012 I don't like it, but it's better than nothing. It's simply so unorganized and only islands. I want to claim my own territory and leave my mark there. Oh yeah and playing 1 hour just to keep my food up sucks. Cheers
Lirinya 4021 Share Posted November 28, 2012 Unorganized? There are islands regioned and unregioned. A choice for all. Wild are further out but the world is only around 1k by 1k so it's not difficult to go walking. I walked across the world to find our camp RPly and found plenty of animals to kill for quick food. True, there may not be resources avaliable quickly but, you don't need them straight away. Walk to the wilds. Kill animals on your way, cut down some trees for charcoal and tools, cook food, make stone tools. Just because you can't claim your own region, we're not here for long hopefully, this map isn't made with the point of settling down. People see regions and think Oh god I can't do anything. False. The regions have use allow on, some have crafting tables and furnaces on them for you to use should you need them, there is also one camp close to spawn with a few free to use tents should you need them. All I see in the people with issues with regions and what not is that all they want to do is freebuild. That isn't very RP. GMs have towns made for you to walk in and RP. If they're not there, the wilds aren't far. As for characters, make them up. I'm using a character I use in Asulon, she knows the same people she did in Asulon, just with no actual ties to that place. They don't discuss it and their relationship is pretty basic. Even if you joined in Asulon, nothing says you can't use a version of your char just to suit that time. What would you rather have, no server or something to do. Myself and several other GMs, tech team and players alike have been working our asses off in our own way to try and recreate something you would enjoy. Its not Aegis, and it isn't Asulon, it's an in between with a strange piece of lore. We didn't HAVE TO come up with a filler server as fast as we did. We could have said bugger it and waited until we had some proper 2.5 lore developed. We could have also thrown a map up like before, where everybody could do what they wanted. I'd rather LotC not be known for that. Instead we've spent the last what, 4/5 days? taking barely any time to ourselves so we can get this done. All for its community who then love to judge when, god forbid, the GMs are caught having a laugh for an hour or so. If you don't like how it is, there is nothing forcing you to play. It isn't idea for everybody, but nothing will make 2.5 or 3.0 come any faster. I take judgement on this, whether good or bad, quite personally. Instead of school, I've put all my days into LotC since the map was lost. Alec has spent hours upon hours trying to fix broken plugins, salvage the whitelist and what not, Roze, Rom and some others have spent ages voxeling terrain LotC would be proud of. Yet I still see negative comments outweighing the positive.
Valentino MC: Mau5noize 1094 Share Posted November 28, 2012 Great post liri. The wilds are everywhere, tons of small islands, and a massive one. I even scattered coal and iron on the outskirts of mountains to make it easier for players to start off. I know it would be nice to just start off in the wilds and have a majority of the map non regioned, but its simply not what is best for the server. Find your race's home island. Dwarves have claimed a big snow island and received perms; though the mining is limited; having valuable ores shouldn't be ones main focus. This is a RP server, and this is what we have been moving towards. We cant let every player build their own villages and houses around the main island. We have regioned and unregioned areas so players will flock there. Having it like this promotes RP, and decreases game mechanics which remove players from RPing. so go RP, RP gather materials to bring back to your people, RP build homes along the wilds or your races island. Mining and surviving with no interaction with other players doesn't contribute to the servers purpose. Im sorry you don't enjoy the lore or map style; but it serves its purpose of keeping RP lore related to LOTC and promoting RP and trading. Right now Orc probably control the market on sand and glass, dwarves on wood and stone, and the jungle island holds a lot of animals and rare wood; plus a close relationship with the dwarves. The orcs have a closeness to the wilds but are further from anyone else. It is strategically set up to promote trading, promote RP, make war claims and island conquering require a lot of traveling, and keep safe friendly RP on the main island. Don't let your first impression hinder your experience on the Server's Temp Map. Try it out and we are always open for suggestions from the player base. But play it for a while first. no longer active 734 Share Posted November 28, 2012 I have a question, we're all the plugins wiped also?
Lirinya 4021 Share Posted November 28, 2012 Some were corrupted and broken, the whitelist and banlist was lost, as was the map. Alec not only had to fix the plugins but create a script that salvaged the whitelist from pex nodes. He also installed all the plugins fresh.
Thrym 188 Share Posted November 28, 2012 Could you add a "Neutral and this is why" option? I love the chance to play my original character which is a plus but, at the same time, don't like that I can't continue to develop my current character. Because of this I'm on the fence and haven't voted.
Lirinya 4021 Share Posted November 28, 2012 Totally understandable. I'd love to develop Ash properly but, coming up with proper lore that tied in with Asulon, and getting together a proper map that suited Asulon would take much longer. It's something we can start working on now we have a map for you to fill some time with.
Merkaken 516 Share Posted November 28, 2012 Personally, I find it kind of hard to find... anything... Not to mention I get slaughtered if I don't pay attention to sneeze. It's very hard to find food around, and I feel like things could have been labeled a bit more clearly as to where what is and how to get to it. However, that's not to say I dislike the map... Despite the fact it's hard to find anything, I take a moment to take in the scenery and i'm still blown away. It's very very beautiful and I love how it looks so much. You can tell that the GM's spent so long on this. So i'm somewhat on the fence about whether I like it or not.
Jchizz 115 Share Posted November 28, 2012 I haven't been on the server, so I can't really say whether I enjoy the server or not. However, wasn't the point of this thread and this entire section of the forums for the players to give their feedback? What's the point of giving the feedback if the players are just going to get scolded and rebuked by the staff? I understand that hard work went into it over a short period of time, but that doesn't mean the players have to like it. You guys asked for their opinions. Let them voice their opinions. See, the problem is saying something's "Unorganized" is not helpful. It seems downright rude, as a matter a fact. If you're talking about Liri's "Outburst" (I don't know a better word for it to make it sound like i'm saying she's wrong) she really had a right to. There's a fine line between constructive critisizm and being rude. Not to mention, i'm sure the Staff and Members are all on edge with each other right now ;)
Jchizz 115 Share Posted November 28, 2012 If a player feels that the map is unorganized, than they think it's unorganized. I can't think of any more polite word for the term, to be honest... I don't see anyone cussing the staff out. I don't see any personal attacks or sarcastic remarks. They players are just sharing that for some, the server isn't something that pleases them. Let them say it, and don't tell them how appreciative they should be and how rude they are for not liking some aspects of the map. Again, the staff asked for their view. Let them share it :/
