Clan History

The story of Ulgrin

Long ago in the city of Kar'Urguan  their lived a particular dwarf with a rather large brow. He was a descendant of two larger clans and though he was closely related to this family, he looked quite different from them. For you see his father and mother were two different dwarves, the father a descendant of an ancient family of cave dwarves, and the mother was a descendant of one of the noble mountain dwarves. The son became a miner though also learned to fight like any other dwarf. In battle he earned the nickname "StrongBrow" for he loved to smash his enemies skull with a strong and lethal head but. He became well known and became rather wealthy for his father's wealth and his passion to create stories. Eventually he had gotten married and bore many children. In time they grew to become dwarves and they all had that large brow. He decided to create a name for his family and that is "Strongbrow." The Strongbrows became a new clan and at this time Kal'Urguan was still rather young. Their wealth diminished rather rapidly for "Ulgrin" the founder, he spent most of his wealth taking care of all the children he had. His children though not as wealthy as the other larger families, they had a great reputation at the time. The Strongbrows were great miners and enjoyed many other things such as poetry, storytelling, music, and of course wrestling. Though these are things they do when there aren't conflicts about. Like any dwarf they are bred to fight as well, in battle though the reputation of the notorious head but is well known, they were also greatly known for their expertise in hand to hand combat and wide builds. The descendants of Ulgrin became wealthy and bore children of their own. One of these descendants was the First son of Ulgrin and his name was Ulinthal he was very wide and he was known to wield a large pickaxe like his father, who's passion for mining prefered this tool as a weapon of choice. Ulinthal like his siblings mined comstantly in Kal'Urguan and they loved it so much that they would carve patterns along the walls to create beautiful mine shafts. The family were prosperous for many years, until something strange happened and they fled with the few they had left away from Kal'Urguan. Ulinthal bore a son named Omithiel, who was put into an orphanage by his father Ulinthal when he fled. Hundreds of years passed and Omithiel became well known for his works of art, though he considered all dwarves to be kin, he had no one closely related to him. He never really cared much about it, because he focused more on his work more then anything. In the city of Khaz under the rule of Kjell, Omithiel helped his fellow dwarves with mining operations. On a certain day an old Dwarf whos life was nearly fading approached Omithiel. It was his father Ulinthal who gave him the family heirloom and gave him a tattered book, before he passed at that moment. Before Omithiel fully read the book, he found parchments of his current relatives. For years Omithiel had kept the knowledge about his kin in secrecy. For the numbers were very few and his line was spread far apart. Though recently he had allowed those within his family to return if they so wish.

The story of Hulgris

Hulgris Strongbrow was the second son of the mountain and cave dwarf. Although his life was in the shadow of his brother he was as equal to him in strength. Though his brother Ulgrin was a better fighter Hulgris was more crafty. The two were very bonded together and would be each other in a good wrestle from time to time. In battle they would join but occasionally would be seperated from each other. Hulgris loved mining but his true love was blacksmithing. Altihough he had very little knowledge of the smithing trade , he eventually became quite well in the practice. Hulgris was well known for something in a specific battle where it was said, that he was able to like his brother smash his foes with his head. Hulgris though was able to gash through his enemies with his head, with something he crafted. This helmet he crafted unfortunately its drawings were too faded to understand what he had made. Like his brother, Hulgris had many children and they as well enjoyed the many things like any Strongbrow, but a few followed the footsteps of Hulgris and became blacksmiths. Both lines were together until like Ulgrins line they fled from Kal'Urguan for mysterious reasons. Under secrecy for so long they are returning back to their home.

Clan Traits/Appearance

The Strongbrow clan are a mix of mountain and cave dwarf decent. Their appearance is rather wide, they are shorter than their mountain cousins they are much broader then most cave dwarves and have a protruding brow. Very wide they are slower then most of their kin, they have tougher skin for much labour within mines. Due to the brow the Strongbrows are quite unattractive due to their strong facial features.Though the reason they mine is their strange intense passion to create works of art. Once they love something, they create a strong tenacious passion for it. They enjoy crafting, storytelling, poetry, and music amongst others and consider all dwarves to be closely related.  In combat their weapons of choice is an axe or hammer, though a few prefer the war pick that their descendants had used.  The clan praise Yemekar greatly including Anabelle. They have a very stubborn nature, and dislike things that are strange to them. They practice wrestling in good fun, but have a great sense of it, and would use it in combat. A particular move they use is the headbut, due to their strong skulls, and a blow in the head by a Strongbrow, has a good chance of knocking the victim out. The clan enjoys traveling quite often due to them fleeing in the past, they had gotten used to moving often. They have an unbreakable loyalty towards their race, and respect other races unless they do harm to their fellow dwarves. Once anyone had made a mistake with them, they become unforgiving. Strongbrows are dwarves at heart, but have their own unique traits from their fellow dwarves.

Values

Sternness

The clan has many values and one of these values is having a stern nature. The clan values this for when there is a problem that is against the clan or their fellows dwarves, they must have a stern nature to warn those who are causing the problem.

Cheerfulness

The cheerful attitude when drinking or having a good brawl amongst your kin is always needed. For when things look grim and morale is low a cheerful attitude can always support not only those within the clan but to your fellow dwarf.

Stubborn

A very fundamental and generic trait of a dwarf. Though it may not be a great value, a stubborn nature is needed for when making deals or communicating with others to prove your point. The value is needed and greatly shows for those who have a heart to never give up.

Honor

Being honorably is probably one of the most valued and traits within the clan and the dwarven society itself. Battle honorably and follow a honorable life for it shows character, and a lesson to your fellow kin.

Loyalty

Being loyal is needed in any kingdom, and dwarves are a very loyal people. Loyalty towards your clan is mandatory and its mandatory to be loyal to your King. Though loyalty is very hard to commit for some, but luckily the culture of the dwarves are different from other races. For it is very honorable to be loyal to your fellow kin who are all from the same root.

Brotherhood/Sisterhood

This is the most important and pratically fundamental value within the clan. The Strongbrows consider all dwarves their kin, and would not care for if they are not of their clan. They know as do all dwarves that they are from one line which is Urguan. Though all dwarves have different appearances, they believe all the dwarves are truely close like a brother or sister. Not only they believe this but it is needed for it creates great trust within themselves and their fellow dwarves

Culture/Tradition

Boasting of Beards

A Strongbrow always must boast and have great pride for their beard. They must groom, braid and put jewels within their beards in order to show off their beards. Competitions within the clan are held to see who has a greater beard.

Wrestling/Brawl

A match between two Strongbrows is great fun and a great display to show their strength. It is a practice they do often to have good fun, as well to prepare themselves in danger. They compete often to improve their speed for their bodies are broad which makes them slow but gives them great strength.

Carving

An old skill that the Strongbrows follow. Carving is a skill the Strongbrows used to practice to express themselves, but the obsessive passion to do something in perfection. Though mostly the miners of the clan would create great patterns within the mine shafts, at this time few follow this due to them leaving the old city of Kal'Urguan.

Storytelling/Poetry

When traveling to a bar, or having free time Strongbrow would share their stories with their fellow kin, whether it be a legend from the past or something that happened in their daily life. The clan enjoys sharing stories with their fellow dwarves to pass the time and have a good time.

Passion/Perfection

When a Strongbrow knows what he wants and what skill he would follow, he would have a great desire to follow it and master that skill for the majority of their life. This obsession they have is somewhat odd but it's one of strange traits that Strongbrows have.

The Strongbrow Right

Once a Strongbrow reaches a certain age within their life, they must make a pilgrimage around the surrounding lands of the dwarves, and climb a mountain of their choosing to the summit to end their pilgrimage. There they will find enlightment once the stars appear over them. The Strongbrow is allowed to bring a fellow clan member to accompany them.

The Trial within the Burrows

This ancient traditions are very old, and were not even made by those of the Strongbrow blood. It's a tradition that was made within the mining halls of Kal'Urguan. Those of the Stronbrow generations before Omithiel had done this trial and only two have gone through it fully. Ulgrin and Hulgris have traveled deep within the caves and mineshafts of Kal'Urguan to test their courage. What they saw and dealt with was kept only to themselves. For those who pass the tradition were to keep whatever they saw or enlightment they gain a secret. Only those who know they can do this trail can take it on. It is said that many myths about the deep underworld of the dwarves cave from this tradition.

Religion Values/Clan Relics

Though the clan doesn't ha e a specific deity they follow within the Brathmordakin. Majority of the Strongbrows would follow Yemekar and Anabelle for these two dieties have core values that the clan follows. Though it isn't required to follow these gods it is required for a dwarf within the clan to choose a god/gods under themselves, that must be of the Brathmordakin.

Pilgrimage

There comes a time for a dwarf to make a pilgrimage in to understand the gods, or to seek enlightment from them. When that times comes the Strongbrows would travel throughout the lands of Dwarvish mountains and camp a to seek enlightment, for guidance and wisdom in their lives, or even to just follow the traditions.

The Book of the StrongBrows

This old book contains all the history and knowledge of the Stronbrows. Since the very first writings from Ulgrin, it has passed been passed around to each member of the family to write whether it be poem, stories, past history or even myths. The clan wrote within this book to pass it down to their members so they can also share stories of their lives. The book which is very old can only be read by those who know its language, for it's written in the Ancient Dwarvish Language. The one who owns this book is Omithiel Strongbrow for he was given this book when his father Ulinthal had shown him his lineage and where he came from.

The Staff of Strongbrows

This old staff was once the handle of the pickaxe that the great Ulgrin Strongbrow, who took down his foes with a mighty twirling swing piercing his enemies. Unfortunately the metal head is gone, but its handle still remains, and it is carved with great craftsmanship with many runic symbols. Ulinthal the firstborn son, was given this relic who he then passed down to his son Omithiel, who treasures it greatly.

The StrongBrow Heart

(thinking of a name still.)

The StrongBrow Heart is a spherical jewel which was found by Ulgrin on a mining trip with his father in the mining halls of Kal'Urguan. The jewel though not expensive was forged with the head of the pickaxe Ulgrin used. It was clear and round, its color was a dark cyan color. The jewel was given to Omithiel after Ulinthal fled the city of Kal'Urguan. The jewel was carved intricately once Omithiel was a young dwarf who could mine within the Mining halls of Kal'Urguan. For years it was carved to perfection. The clan were happy to see another part of the ancient weapon, was not destroyed, and were marveled by the craftsmanship of Omithiel. The jewel was as if it was meant to be carved.

Holris's Helmet

The helmet in fragments after the clan fled from Kal'Urguan, its design still exist for what is left of the drawings that Hulris made. Unfortunately the drawings are fading and it is hard to know what helmet Holris had made during his life. Luckily most of his study of blacksmithing was put into the clan's book, but only a few can read runic writing and most of those are gone, only those of the generation that have lived from the days of Simppa can read the writing.

Lineage

The Line of Ulgrin

Ulgrin firstborn had about 14 children and they followed the footsteps of their father. They mined and learned to carve to perfection within the mines. They loved to make their mineshafts very well and were very good at navigating through caves. They enjoyed Storytelling and Poetry as well as Wrestling with each other. Some even became architects. The line of Ulgrin was large and of his children 12 of them bore children, and of those 12, 10 of them had children of their own. Most of the generation of those 10 children have passed. Though 7 of those 10 bore children of their own Many seperated and became distant after fleeing from Kal'Urguan. They contacted each other from time to time up until the return of Thorin where they are now returning home.

211 years old.

Why do you wish to join this clan?

The lore is solid, a very down to earth dwarven clan.

Are you new/decent to Roleplaying? Or new to Dwarven Roleplay? (If not that is ok. It's a learning experience.)

I applied awhile back but wasn't really interested. I've got more free time on my hands and figured I'd give it another shot.

Biography:(Must be under one of the dwarves within the two lines.)

For many years Bofut and his father, Dulaithin, lived out their lives moving from hold to hold, excavating large masses of stone for work. Which, in the lands of Asulon, there where many dwarven holds built, so work came relatively easy for the two. Both of them decided that they would start anew in these lands and drop the clan name of Strongbrow as to not have any attention drawn to them. This choice wasn't because they where ashamed of the name, but rather that they wanted a fresh start in a fresh world. This went on for many ages, ever since they split off from the clan once they departed from Aegis.

Until one day, during the excavation of Kal'Karik, a tragic accident occurred when a group of excavators misjudged the integrity of a bridge and plummeted fifty feet into a lake of bubbling lava. Dulaithin was of that group. The news devastated Bofut and threw him into a drunken depression.

He once again looked for a new start, much like he did when last he lost kin that was very close to him. He came across a poster asking for dwarven miners for a new colony far away from here. This was his chance to get away, to start anew. It just so happens that his uncle, Omithiel Strongbrow, was one of the dwarves leading the expedition. Bofut reclaimed his clan name in an attempt to make amends and hopefully, find some peace with his newly discovered kin.

*A letter attached to a Hawk flys to Rholif II and it lands upon Rholif II shoulder. Inside the letter is the contents of a message from Omithiel Strongbrow.*

"I Omit'iel yer cousin is safe don't worry about me lad, but I 'ope everyt'in' be arig't fer ye upon returnin' back with t'e rest ov t'e yer fellow dwarves. I 'ope everyt'in' be workin' out fer ye. I also 'ope yer keepin' t'at title fer bein' t'e best bar fig'ter."

*Omithiel sees the enlistment of those who joined the expedition when Hiebe was king. He saw a name which at first he passed it with just a glance. Though he looked at it again and saw the name, he smiled as he paused for a minute. He then writes a letter to Bofut.*

" 'ail Bofut StrongBrow t'is be yer uncle Omit'iel, I am glad to see ye joinin' t'is cause. I do ask t'at ye prepare yerself but I know ye would be adjusted in very well. Bofut I be glad to see ye I can't wait to s'are a drink with ye upon t'e campsite befer we embark."

Which line do you come from? The line of Hulgris

Age: 436

Why do you wish to join the clan: Seams like a very reasnoble background, thus a reasnoble clan overal. Seams like a perfect clan to have.

Are you new to Roleplay? Descent? Nei! Well, pretty much actually... I've played dwarfs for about a week now, and the server overall about 1 and a half.

Biography: Upon ariving the lands of dwarves, Thalin son of Yavik first glanced apon an anvil he so desires to use. For years he has been experimenting the knowledge of weapons trying to come up with an ultimate weapon that his people can use, but all for all the years, he is yet to invent one. As his father Yavik son of Hulgris left Thalin scripts of his research mostly made in tails, as such nature of his family, you can see that the weapon he wanted to create, and now Hulgris wants to make may not even be finished apon his life. In time of inventing the weapon, he goes mining as he figured it gives him concetration in thinking. He never knew exactly why. Maybe again just the line of clan. Hulgris also runs a dictionary every day, as he wants to sometimes have stories, not just to tell, but read with the details writen from the curent presence, unlike the foggy memory he would have to remember.

Although caring about his brothers, Thalin is still a devoted blacksmith, always looking for more inventions to work with, not for the money, but for the military and industrial future to come.

Why do you wish to join this clan?

I wish to join this clan because I really like Dwarven roleplay and I like the lore behind this clan and would love to be part of it.

Are you new or decent to Roleplaying? Or new to Dwarven Roleplay? (If not that is ok. It's a learning experience.)

I am decent at roleplay and I have done some Dwarven roleplay before. This will be my first major Dwarven character.

Biography: (Must be under one of the dwarves within the two lines.)

Onar was born 420 years ago in a small, damp, cold cave. His father had met up with his secret lover after her pregnancy. It had been decided that he would take the child. Onar grew up living as an average dwarf would in the nations capital. He spent much time reading books and practising with his axe. He spent his young years working with his father on construction and engineering projects. By the age 72 he had become quite adapt at the art of engineering. For much of his life so far he has been engineering and create complex devices and mechanisms. When he was in his early 300's he fought in the battle of Kal'Alras, he manned and defended the front line siege weapons on the side of the dwarves.

He has recently traveled to Kal'Azgoth to seek work. He has met his cousin Omithiel there to talk business of an engineering job.

Why do you wish to join this clan?

It seems Inactive in all honesty, And I hate to see things dissolve, especially a Dwarven Clan such as this with so much Lore and history to offer. I have intentions of reviving the Strongbrow Clan the best I can.

Are you new or decent to Roleplaying? Or new to Dwarven Roleplay? (If not that is ok. It's a learning experience.)

I've Roleplayed a Dwarf quite a few times, and have a good grasp on speech, lore and culture.

Biography:(Must be under one of the dwarves within the two lines.)

Balin, Son of Durin was a somewhat reserved and quiet dwarfling when growing up. When others would play about in the mud and invite him to join them he would simply grumble, and shun them from his sight. Needless to say he was the epitome of an unsociable dwarf, thinking himself higher then others around him, and knowing his capabilities to be far more so then any other dwarf, whether it be physically or Intellectually. As a young yet fully grown dwarf, he started his own business selling Dwarven Steel at local markets. This was a great success, with many profits and perks radiating from the business' success. When the young Dwarf had a sturdy knowledge of merchantry, he expanded his businesses to races of all kind, showing no interest of petty wars and foolish quarrels, Balin was known as the Dwarf clad in gold, commonly found by his glistening golden armor that he wears with great pride around his fellow kin'

Balin Strongbrow sits in his stone arm chair within his home at Stormscrossing. His index finger sits softly against his pursed lips as he sits isolated in a deep thought. The room around him bears little character and few windows, it's stone interior brings in a cold chill from the night time hours outside yet he seems to be in comfort with it. With a heavy grunt, he reaches beside him for his parchment and quill and begins to write a letter.

"Tu me' dear'st Omithiel,

Yer' wher'bouts as ov' late 'as been unknown tu' most ov' uz Dwarves an' it dos' indeed concern meh. Nubodeh 'as seen ye' fer years an' teh clan ov' Strongbrow is in a'h dire situation. I pray t'at yer journeh be goided an' ye' return tu' us safeleh.

Regards,

Balin Strongbrow

The parchment is then tied to a sitting crow by the singular window in the room, and soars away into the night carrying it's information. Balin returns once more, staring into space and thinking to himself without expression.
