the1bow 13 Share Posted February 14, 2013 I commend the admins. Not on building a great map that we will all enjoy, but for taking so much crap from the playerbase on a daily basis. Seriously lads, calm your farm and wait.
xirishpridex 3 Share Posted February 14, 2013 What happened to the old spawn's such as the cloud temple :/ those were the dayyyys :). No offence to the "builders" But what's up with the Dock being a spawn?. I know it must relate to some Lore but I mean, That's not what a spawn should look like. The cloud Temple was beautiful, amazing but today's spawn ( A wooden dock....) is a stepdown to say the least. I really hope Anthos has a spawn to live up to the cloud temple!. The cloud Temple was beautiful, amazing but today's spawn ( A wooden dock....) is a stepdown to say the least. I really hope Anthos has a spawn to live up to the cloud temple!. The spawn features a dock - it isn't actually a dock - the spawn is much more than a simple dock, there is buildings in our usual temple style. ;) Personally, I liked it when the world was shaped by the players, everyday, someone would move in, open a shop, start a business, anyone could build. Even the land disputes it caused made the game better. A settlement would pop up here and there, economic fluxes would occur due to a certain farm closing or a new mine opening. In Asulon, I wandered about as my character, finding tons of abandoned towns that were clearly made to be crowded with people trading and talking, but because of the protection, it was too expensive to buy a farm, maintain it, or have food shipped in, everyone left. When a town is made by players, it is made to last, with farms that can sustain the population. There is almost always someone there. It all had a nice flow that in other servers could be ruined by a single person who has a sword, so unfortunately, such an amazing experience will be lost, but I still have hope that somehow, the 3.0 LotC Server will surpass it. We are returning free areas of land with 3.0 - just not initially. We want to encourage the cities to be the hubs, however as the map becomes older we will indeed be opening large areas of free-to-build land that will be moderated to ensure it doesn't become land-scarred. If settlements become abandoned they will be cleaned up in an RP manner - e.g. eroding collapsing, flooding, over-run by mobs. 'Soon.' 'Soon.' 'Very Soon'. This.. Just say it's not close to release, you guys have been saying it's near done or 'soon' for two months. D:. OH.. And yunodoregioning before the building? We've said it's close for one month - the newsletter went out Early January. Obviously we won't region before building? Then we'd not be able to protect buildings, etc in an efficient way. Damperstorm 3 Share Posted February 14, 2013 The Reckless Fist runs as fast as he can and punches a random titanium wall full-force, fire blazing from it, leaving a dent in the wall. There is a big grin on his face.
Gorum© 623 Share Posted February 14, 2013 I just want to put this out there. The map was nearly complete shortly after the Spawn was created. I can tell you that we learned our msitake of not pre-building to an extent. The first weeks of Asulon were completely boring because of the fact that all we had to do was build.

In Renatus we spent so much time building and walking to Renatus(cause we kept dying because mobs just love unfinished cities...) that we had pretty much no RP for at least a month after Asulon, if not longer. And even then the city was still unfinished.
Lord_Sauron_ 43 Share Posted February 14, 2013 This was probably said somewhere else, but I'm new here - so permit my ignorance! What was used to create the basic terrain and the like? The actual layout, and the meat of the map - not details and the like. Was it WorldPainter? I love that program.

Aye, I spent over two weeks worldpainting the map - creating natural barriers/features in a way that funneled players into key areas of the map so that seeing travelers would be often, once the map is released I will be posting an image of the map when it was first worldpainted and going over why it's shaped the way it is =]

I'm not sure if you'll be given a map In-character, I'm just a humble builder now so that much isn't up to me - but you will surely see an image of the map OOC'ly ~

Lord_Sauron_ 43 Share Posted February 14, 2013 I love World Painter - so much you can do with so little effort. Custom bo2s, pockets of ice in snowy areas... Can't wait to see the results, as good World Painter maps are far too rare! ^.^ -Vanir
