Beginning History

 

The origins of Clan Marsh date back to the beginning of Aegis. Where the Clan Chieftain, Halden Marsh, married the lady, Sarah McHarnish, of the McHarnish Clan and was given land to start the new Clan. Halden and Sarah had many children but all were

slain by the undead or bandits besides two. These kids name were Gideon Marsh and Thoro Marsh they were  strong fellows in the age of 17 and 18 they grew up learning a bow and
swordsmanship and how to play the bagpipes from his father and cooking from his
mother. Halden.Gideon, and Thoro took many trips into the woods to hunt but on one
particular day black smoke arose from the Marsh Hall and the sound of battle
was heard from there. They rushed back to their home to only find
Adunian and Undead lying dead along with Gideon’s Mother, Sarah. Halden filled
with grief gathered what men he could and traveled north to the Undead’s
fortress to avenge his wife and his kinsmen. Gideon and Thoro stayed behind and waited
for weeks for their father to return but he never did so they tended the Marsh Hall
till they grew older where they left their home and traveled south away from their kin and formed a band of Rangers called Rangers of the Forest. Gideon had four sons he named them Gideon II, Thordin, Audin, and Jacob and Thoro had five sons and named them Erik, Rodric, Ulf, Ulric and Halden II they were their legacies as they disappeared from the world 


What most do not know when Gideon Marsh disappeared his mantle was taken up by his son, who studied his father’s adventures and grew up to be a spitting image of his
father being trained in the same arts as his father was. He traveled Aegis for
10 years then traveled to Asulon with the rest and tried to restart his
father’s Ranger group but failed.  He lived as a huntsman for many years until he reached Anthos with his family where they begin a small community in the wilds he then one day heard the callof the Adunian Rangers and he answered it disguised as his father. After many
weeks with the Rangers he decided that he needed to begin again what his father
left behind and that was Clan Marsh.  To achieve this he, aswell as being the Drillmaster of the Adunian Rangers, swore and oath to the McHarnish Clan so they would be their Liege Lords

Clan Marsh males and females must do the ritual for the coming of age ceremony
which is killing 10 of the undead then drinking the red wine from the dragon
horn  passed down from generation to generation

 

Ceremonial Killing of an Opponent

 

In Clan Marsh, there is a tradition of killing an opponent after besting them in one-to-one combat. It is a normal tradition in the clan, and is regularly used, but mainly on people of high importance or on someone they hold a quarrel on. This is not done of common people nor people of no tension of quarrel, but is still sometimes done.

The process of this tradition is simple, yet symbolic. It requires a seax knife, about 20 cm long. A Marsh is given a seax knife on their coming of age, usually a normal knife with no engravings, and usually bare with just a hilt and blade. Traditionally, the blade is engraved as battles are won, and victories are made. This can be done for not just martial victories, but is commonly done so. The blade’s hilt also gets engraved as well, but more traditionally gets embedded with beads and colored string. The blade is always carried on the left side, in a undecorated sheath. The sheath is never decorated. The seax knife is also always worn, and must be brought to every occasion, even if peaceful.

 

The Marsh then approaches his opponent, and makes sure he/she is on the ground. Then he must get on top of of the opponent. Each leg is put on either side of the opponent’s side, and he must stare into his eyes. A prayer must be made, either to the Old Gods or the Creator, but it is traditionally the Old Gods. The Marsh then must place both hands on the seax knife, looking up, must then chant “Oro oro oro!” He then must proceed to stab down at his opponent, aiming for the heart. Sometimes, however, if it is a dear friend or of somebody you have no quarrel with, they aim more center, not towards the heart, thinking it will bring less pain. Then, if it is at the end of the battle, and the person was of great importance, the Marsh then proceeds to cut off the head of the man, and use it a trophy to his comrades. The head is given back to the body, giving respects to the man.

Far in the north he was tracking an ice witch with his brother Jacob. Jacob's friend was taken by the witch and they were determined to get her back. They tracked her to a cave, outside of it lay the body of Jacob's friend. Jacob and I were about to charge in with our swords out when a blinding White-Blue light flashed from the cave. Then a giant bear that looked like it was made ice. It slashed down at me cutting my eye. Jacob hacked off one of its arms, then I charged the creature. I drove my sword through the beast and it fell. Then the same light flashed and there lay an Ice witch with a sword sticking out of her, and only one arm. We cut off her head and burned the body. It left me with a scar, and I will never trust any magic user.
