A Rule Clarification

It rocketed with the increase of player base. I believe I am correct in saying that back in Aegis, you did not have nearly as many players as you do now, which, need I say, is now over 1000 all in all.

we had more players, in a way smaller map. Aswell since everyone had Loades of diamonds and iron ect no one cared of they lost it they just ran home got another set.

Today I would like to clarify a rule that was previously in a grey area and somewhat undefined. In recent times, a few bans have arisen from the confusion associated with this rule, and I hope that this explanation will clear any misunderstandings. Anyhow, onto the clarification. We have recently encountered many arguments among the playerbase regarding the act of logging in to defend your home/base. After a brief discussion between staff members, we came to the decision of allowing settlement inhabitants to log in to defend their homes if proper RP is performed beforehand. While some may disagree with this decision, it only makes sense for guards or inhabitants to wake up and/or be alerted by the uproar of an attack. This does not apply to every situation, but it encompasses a majority of raids. It is highly encouraged that a defender signals for help through an RP emote before warning their friends in Skype or TS (or any other form of communication), as failure to do so could result in punishment. Keep in mind that this rule only applies to people that would be present in the settlement in RP. In other words, you cannot use this as a method to call for help from an outside source that would not be near you in RP.

Unfortunately, this is one of those rules that is difficult to enforce, and it is enforced differently depending on the viewpoint of the GM handling the matter. However, rather than it being an actual "rule," it is more of a recommended suggestion in order to avoid OOC conflict or claims of meta-gaming. Additionally, we will not be adding it to the rule page (as it falls under meta-gaming). This is simply a clarification for the community, and I encourage you to all follow it accordingly.

I have a question related to this rule.

So, you have a group of 3-5 bandits who have stormed a town, say Baile. There were people in the town and even though the scream has gone out, the bandits of rounded up everyone in the middle of the town while they search the place. While they have everyone gathered up, suddenly two or three other people "Log In" behind the bandits and come in swords out and full on attack them.

My question is, would that be allowed? Since the bandits have already searched the town and have checked everywhere, would the people who have just "logged in" be able to attack. Saying that rply they were hiding? Or would they simply just join the group that has already been rounded up and rp they were rounded up as well? Or would you rather the players take initiative and make an agreement?

Thanks for your time!

Nah, Aegis had way more active players.

It makes sense, people cannot be online at all times, but IC they would know if their house was under attack. Hell if a guard was stood at the front gate (possibly signified by a sign or something) they would be the first to know, regardless of if they where offline, since "offline" doesnt exist in character.

Incorrect, during the active hours in Aegis we typically saw anywhere from 250 to 300 people online consistently. Not just during large battles or events.

I'm not saying that there was none of this crap back then, I'm simply saying that there has been an increase in it ever since we moved to Asulon. There has always been OOC troubles, but they have increased quite a bit over the past year and a bit, to the point where we've got Viper, and other staff members, having to make posts and get involved in the OOC flame wars. Back in Aegis, our staff didn't have to address this problem nearly anywhere near as much as they do now. There has always been meta-gaming yes, but like I said, these problems have sky rocketed since 1.0.

On a small level, I have to agree. I joined in Asulon, a year ago, right before all of this ooc flaming. Now it's come to a boiling point of aggression and tension, across the entire server. People seem more occupied with their character's well being, than the servers.
