Fixing the Armless Skin Glitch in MPM

1) What is MPM?

More Player Models is a mod for minecraft that allows skins to have different models, shapes, sizes, and looks to them.

2) What is the MPM glitch?

Sometimes when skins are edited, people use programs like Microsoft Paint. This causes a problem, because it fills in empty parts of the skin with a white color. MPM interprets this white color as being part of the skin, and it messes things up, causing limbs to be lost. This is extremely easy to fix, one simply needs a few things to begin!

* A Proper Editing Program

1. Paint.net

2. Photoshop

3. Gimp

4. MCSkin3D

I prefer to use Paint.net, and that is the program being used in this tutorial.

3) How to Fix it!

Begin with saving the skin file to your desktop or some other easily accessible location. Right click it and open it with your skin editing program. Note - do NOT open it with Microsoft Paint. I believe doing so at all messes with the skin.

After you have opened up the skin, choose a selection tool. You will want to delete the white areas in the skin, leaving the ‘alpha’ layer. In paint.net, I use the rectangle selection tool, and simply hit the delete key, removing the pixels and leaving the alpha/background layer.

This is how it looks before any editing is done. The next screenshot shows the selected area that was deleted, leaving the ‘alpha’ layer.

The final screenshot shows the skin with the unnecessary white parts edited out. Your skin may vary depending on the pixels in the top left corner, which are the base for MPM changed skins. There are also different areas that may be shaded with certain pixels to add mohawks, beards, hair, and other parts - refer to the More Players Model post on the Minecraft Forums for more information.

In the final final screenshot, you can see the difference between the unedited skin, with no alpha layers and white pixels, and the edited one. Notice the change in hair, the MPM registers the ‘hat’ layer after the unneeded pixels we removed. This allows fancy looking hair.

Oh my god! THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH! I have been having problems with my skinning, and I thought I was just putting the colors in incorrectly! This really has helped me A FRIGGIN' LOT! Though....I am still not good at shading. Oh well. Baby steps.

Hopefully this will also help those players who dont have the mod realize how silly they look to those who do.
