[Request] Need A Biome Change For Region

Alright, so, in Furnestock we've been trying to keep animals for quite some time. For some reason, they always die/disappear. We know it's not any plugin, nor bandits, as there are no roleplay signs, lockpicking breaking in etc (Unless someone's block jumping  which is no bueno) We went through multiple reasons why the animals keep despawning, and found out it was the region- The region is Extreme Hills

c00guPB.jpgAs you can see in the top left corner, Extreme Hills. However, Furnestock is anything but extreme hills (except the mountain) So I'd like to request that we get the biome changed to something more fitting, like plains. This will allow us to keep animals, and whatnot. I'm willing to stay up as late as possible if the biome editing causes lag (so there won't be a lot of people online) Thanks for any help given.

Aha! The same is needed for the Whitescar Region. If anyone could do that as well, possibly to a snow biome.

Im pretty sure its not a biome problem. Mobs despawn so that others may spawn elsewhere.

http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Spawn here is an example on how things spawn in vanilla MC.

You can find cattle, pigs, sheep, all animals in extreme hills in vanilla. What your issue -might- be, is region flags. Have a GM experienced with world-guard check your flags for mob spawn deny on passive mobs.

Also make sure you breed the animals as often as possible. If memory serves, Reag implemented a plugin to make animals despawn after a certain amount of real life time unless they had been recently bred.

There is also a chance of animals despawning if nobody is around for a certian amount of time, confirmed by the MC wiki;

"A mob that has had no player within 32 blocks of it for more than 30 seconds has a 1 in 800 chance of despawning on each game tick (1/20th of a second). Therefore, the half-life of monsters not within 32 blocks of a player is 27.73 seconds, after the initial 30 seconds have elapsed."

As well as this:

"A mob will immediately despawn if ever there is no player within 128 blocks of it"

If memory serves furnestock is about 200 blocks away from the ishikawa land, which is one of the closest settlements to it besides the land that Dawn owns, and the town behind the mountain along the cost. However both of these tend to be fairly inactive for the most part. So that may be where your issue is coming from if its not flags.

First thing, I'm pretty sure that plugin was removed, I hope?

Secondly, that's just so silly. ;-;

The animals despawn overnight, which means that most likely they just go away because we aren't online. Which is very frustrating. How are we even supposed to keep animals like that?

EDIT- I looked at the wiki, and found this-

Monsters (not holding items or wearing armor) and squid (but not animals), including hostile wolves as of 1.1, can cease to exist, or "despawn", under certain conditions:

  • A mob will immediately despawn if ever there is no player within 128 blocks of it. Note that this appears to be a sphere, not a cylinder from map top to bottom.
  • A mob that has had no player within 32 blocks of it for more than 30 seconds has a 1 in 800 chance of despawning on each game tick (1/20th of a second). Therefore, the half-life of monsters not within 32 blocks of a player is 27.73 seconds, after the initial 30 seconds have elapsed.
  • All hostile mobs (including those that are holding items) in a world will despawn if the difficulty is set to peaceful, regardless as to where the player is positioned in the world.

In multiplayer, despawning does not occur while there are no players in the game.

So, it's not passive mobs that should despawn. I'm going to look into the issue further tomorrow.

Wait till name tags in 1.6 those will stop mobs from despawning for good

As far as mobs go, hostile mobs are supposed to despawn, they just do.

But the problem here seems to be that passive mobs are despawning as well.

I mean, with the professions plugin animals just -won't- despawn because they will all be custom-coded, with certain exceptions... but for now I'll look into a temporary fix for this. :)

If this issue is still relevant, I can take a look at it. I've already solved this problem in other places, as well as creating others (Hell biome at nation crossing, OOPS).

Because Freya is amazing, and I assume she'll fix this ASAP, considering she hasn't already. I'll close this being that I don't imagine it'll take too long to get done after it is started, considering it isn't yet started, nor if it isn't done already.
