Letter To Malin's People #4

After a long absence, letters in neat yet small writing begin to appear about the notice-boards of the city.

As before, it is unknown who put them up.

To whom it may concern,

It does feel as an eternity since I have written of matters in our great Nation.  That, of course, was in the days of Chaos, the inevitable decline of Kolyat's rule.  But it was in those days that many Elves (myself included) felt the most ALIVE, we finally felt that good could come of the political turmoil.  But it was deceiving.  Even so, our city was bustling, for there is nothing like political turmoil to ignite Elves.  Now, as our nation is set quietly and without fuss onto the path of a sovereign State once more, it seems that after a brief time living comfortably or at least without quantifiable disturbances nor poor living conditions, a level of complacency has grown among the populace, just in time for our return to self-governance. This is highly unfortunate.

Complacency and disinterest greased our long, sliding downfall.  It was complacency and disinterest and idleness that allowed the fool and murderer Darion command of the Sentinels, and complacency that kept him in his seat for as long as he held it.  It was this same eye to the status quo and unwillingness to act in favor of complacency and grudging acceptance that brought about all bad appointments within the Princedom in the last fifty or so years, and complacency among the populace that kept them there.  The only time this comforting and secure blanket was thrown off was during the outcry over the Malins system.

Since then we Mali have had a breath of fresh air.  A period with little government oversight and then domination by Oren has afforded us a step back, an observation period during which life has gone on with little governmental regulation, if at all.  Only the occasional presence of an authority figure and a long-standing tradition of civility among Elves kept Chaos out.  But we cannot allow that sort of acceptance and idleness to continue now.  And to that end, I believe it would be highly beneficial to all Elves if the leadership of the Princedom would seriously consider a system in which the people; common, everyday people you see going about their common, everyday business; would become more active in the government.  In my opinion, a large portion of the complacency was bred by the difficulty of bringing change into the administrations.  Should there be an established platform for citizen participation; the Princedom may avoid stagnation in the upper echelon which was an additional root cause of many of our problems.  Expect more upon this subject in coming days.

Yours Truly, This Day and every Day,

O. Sylvanus Treemail

Post-Script: This is highly theoretical, and a suggestion only

Khel would attempt to raise an eyebrow, but is genetically unable because he is a dark elf. This causes his brows to furrow about in a "wave-like" fashion. He extends his hand upwards and take hold of the paper to examine it closer before he speaks aloud

Someone not rebelling at the first sign of a minute displeasure? Damned faeries, too unpredicatble

*While drinking an unappealing mug of human ale, Alden looked up to a poster pinned to a post by the Wild's Docks. It looked like a rough copy from a probably more elegant piece. None-the-less, he stood up from his seat and went to have a look, while adjusting his coat*.

*Alden traces a finger along the lines, albeit shakily while suffering the effects of the alcohol*

"Bla Bla Bla...Sovreignty...yada yada" *His finger stops at Darion's name*

"heh, about time that bugger got kicked off his high horse".

*Alden started to laugh under his breath, even while he fell back into his char and started to nod off, expecting the terrible hangover that would await him. That and the matter of paying in his Tab*.
