Poker Games In Lotc. A Guide To Help!

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hey there! After recently viewing a few attempted casinos I realized how dull some of the reimagining of the games where, even with basic games such as blackjack! So, for the sake of many of us who prefer real poker games over fake, dulled down LOTC games. I have written up this guide on potential ways you can make REAL poker games work out for the best. I shall update this with more games if I see fit, or I get requested too. I want to to eventually become a hub for all the great games of Anthos! If you also see any mistakes I have made I dearly appoligise, but instead of sending out a small rant to the crowds of the world I'd much prefer a little private message. This is all done from memory of the games, so there is bound to be a mistake around.

Also if you own a casino somewhere and wish to use these games, please feel free to place a forum link sign up and use these. I give you my permission!

IMPORTANT: There is one rule that applies to every single game, for each hand you must record what cards come out. Especially in hold em', or else you may get several of the same card. If the dealer really wanted too, he may get a deck of cards and remove each card as it is used. (Thank you Tec for reminding me of this fact).

Blackjack

Explanation of the game.

For any of you who live under a rock when it comes to casino games, I will attempt to briefly explain how each one works. Now blackjack is a very simple game, you may have heard it named as 21. First, the player gets two card, this then represents a number (what number each card represents will be explained later.). The player can then choose to hit, or stick. Hit means they are given another card, stick means they will stay not be given a card and merely stay with the one/s they have. The only catch is, if your total card go over 21 you are bust and out of the game. Once the player has stuck, the dealer than also plays. The closest to 21, wins!

What about minecraft?

Time for some basic probability math, in a deck of cards there are 52 cards, 4 suites, 13 card in each suite. So, the chance of getting a 4 for example, is 4/52, which when you divide down is 1/13. This is a very easy one for minecraft, all you need to do is get the player to do /roll 13 to decide which number they get next, although if the number is 11, 12 or 13 it represents the number 10. Simple right?

Further information.

Here is some more information you may want to know about the game, including more advanced rules if you wish to include them.

  • 1 represents the card ace, which can be used as an 11 or 1.
  • If the player gets 21 with the first to cards, they instantly win.
  • The reason cards 11, 12 and 13 represent 10 is because they are jack, queen and king.
  • You may want to allow the player to split, meaning if the two cards are identical at the start. They are allowed to split the cards, also placing another bet on the second hand. The dealer than gives each hand another card, and plays as if there was another player. Slightly more confusing.
  • Another interesting rule is double down, this means the player after drawing one card can increased there bet to 100% (or whatever your casino uses).
  • Surrendering is also another thing the player can do if he wishes, this means the player gives up and the casino only takes half the bet.

Roulette

Explanation of the game

Roulette is slightly more complicated, as the player can place a bet on many different areas. So you know what a REAL board looks like, I shall link a picture I 'borrowed' from the internet at the bottom of this topic. For the sake of simplicity, I shall not go into the complicated rules of the game but the more basic stuff. If you care for the complicated, in depth version please just ask and I'll attempt to explain.

So, to start off the player places a bet. On a selected spot, (For any of you knowledgeable players, you will notice I'm using the american board over the European) the dealer than spins a small ball around the wheel itself, and waits for a matter of seconds to it to stop in a slot of the wheel. It may stop in the numbers 1-36, or the little green slots 0 or 00. Dependent on what the number is, determines how much money they make. I'll now list how much each number makes;

  • 0 or 00 slots, they win 35 times there bet.
  • Bet on a random number, such as 1, 6, 25 also wins 35 times there bet,
  • 1st 12, 2nd 12 or the 3rd 12 gets two times there money if they win. (bet of 1, becomes 3.)
  • The 1-18 and 19-36 gets there money doubled.
  • If they place bets on odd, even, red or black they get there money doubled.
  • Picking a column also gets two times there money. (1, becomes 3.)

Now, I wish to remind you again this is a very dulled down version of the actual game that I've attempted to design for less experienced players, the main games features rules such as split, street and corner.

What about minecraft?

Much like blackjack this is very simple to play in game, using the forum link plugin you may use this post to show what the board looks like and allow the player to place there bets. Once they have placed there bets, the dealer may roll a 38. "But there are only the numbers up to 36" I hear you ask! Well, you cannot forget about the other green numbers, 0 and 00. (I'll also link a picture of the wheel for your sake). So, is the dealer rolls a 37 that represents 0, and 38 represents 00. This game type is rather fun to play, as it allows the players to win big, or the casino to easily take every bodies money!

Further information

For those casino pro's who like to play complicated, here is a brief explanation of the more complicated rules.

  • Split is where the bet is placed on two adjoining numbers on the board, due to this the bet is lowered so if ether number is chosen. They only win 17x the amount the bet.
  • Street is where the bet is place on 3 horizontal numbers, if one of the three is rolled than the player wins 11 times the amount they bet.
  • Corner, where the chip is places between 4 numbers making what appears to be a square. They win 8 times there bet if one is chosen.
  • Basket only uses the numbers to the far left of the board, where they are connected. So 1 is connected to 0, so the bet is 1+0.  2 is connected to both 0 and 00, so the bet is 2+0+00, and 3 in the same as one par the fact its 00 instead. The player wins 11 times there bet if they win here.

Texas hold em'  (Or for RP sake, Urguan Hold em')

Explanation of the game

Texas hold em' is extremely complicated to a new player, with several different hands to remember I advise you do not make this a game for every day life in LOTC, yet set a date for a one day competition thing where experienced players can play without stopping every 20 seconds when a player asks "Whats this hand?". So, now that's done let me explain the game to y'all. (Whilst playing the game, you must say y'all at least 3 times. Mandatory rule.)

At the start of the game, there are two possible ways the game can be played, with a dedicated dealer or without. Without means the dealer role is passed clockwise after each hand is played. With a dealer, that fact is just ignored. This is implemented to stop any cheating. Another fact you must know in hold 'em is the rule of blind, and double blind. These tokens rotate clockwise, (I'll link an explanatory picture below) the person receiving the blind places a small bet, such as 5 mina. The double blind then doubling that.

Now for the cards, this is where is gets rather difficult using minecraft and I HIGHLY recommend using a trusted dealer that keeps track of everything that is going off. Each player at the table receives two cards, which are hidden from the others. Once each player has recieved a card, the dealer lays down an open card on the table for all too see. Then begins the betting...

So, the current bet may lay at 10 mina due to the double blind. Going round in clockwise, the player may see potential so they have three options, the first MUST be done to continue playing, this is the call. If a player calls he must match the bet placed on the table at that current moment in time. If the player see's very good potential, he can raise, increasing what the next player has too call to continue playing. If the player is extremely confident, or bluffing. He can go all in, this means every bit of money he bought to the table goes into the center. To continue with the hand all players must also go all in. If the player has really bad cards however, he can fold. Leaving him out of the current hand.

This process repeats, the dealer placing out a second open card and a round of betting, third, fourth then fifth. Although if only two players remain during the hand, the dealer is likely to reveal the last three cards all at once. Now, an explanation of the hands of poker, the part people ALWAYS forget.

1. Pair, this could be a pair in your hand, or a card with the open cards on the table. Eg: In your hand you have a king, and an 1. On the board there is a 1, 6, jack, queen and 9.

2. Two pairs, same as the first, but with two.

3. Three of a kind comes next, meaning you have 3 of the same card. This may be a king, 1, ace etc.

4. Straight, this means you have 5 numbers in order from ANY suite.

5. Flush, this means

6. Full house, this means you have one pair AND  a three of a kind. Such as 6, 6, 6 and king, king.

7. Four of a kind, is explained in the name. (Queen, queen, queen, queen.)

8. Straight flush, this is similar to straight with 5 accending numbers but they MUST be from the same suit this time. Rather hard hand to get.

9. Royal flush, The top of the hands, This means not only getting 5 accending cards, from the same suite, but they must be the card 10-JACK-QUEEN-KING-ACE. You are one lucky person to get this hand!

What about minecraft?

Now, whats pretty damn obvious from the length of the explanation is that this is NOT an easy game to play using only /roll. So, I have devised a method to make it work! Hopefully.

First, the dealer signs up for an online poker website- I'm joking, don't do that. The dealer finds a outside program where they can roll the a number up to 4 and 13. They do this twice for each player, and private message them there card. The dealer records everyone's numbers in a external document to avoid cheating. Now this may seem rather untrustworthy, but I anybody find out people are cheating. Please inform me, as in game they are using cards that cannot magically change. Now, what does each number represent you ask, well, here it goes.

  • In the suit, there are 13 numbers. Here goes what each is in order, ACE-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-JACK-QUEEN-KING-ACE. (Ace can represent the highest, or lowest number when it comes to a flush etc).
  • The easiest way to do this would be to do 2 rolls per card, the first being a roll out of 4. If its a 1, the suit you use is hearts, 2 use diamonds, 3 use clubs and 4 use spades. Next you roll another out of 13, to determine what the actual card is. Again, rather complicated to do.

Because of the complication behind this game, a non-experienced player may have difficult keeping up with the cards. So for that sake, I will make a random new character and become your temporary dealer for competitions, just send me a PM on these forums and I shall tell you if I can make it.

Additional information

Everybody knows a key part of poker, is that damned poker face. So, what could you do to implement that into minecraft? Well. If you really want too, every player could do an emote after each card is placed down. If they play fairly, they may occasional give away little hints to the other players. Although this system is hard to force, as players do not want to lose any money. This system would be best for casual games where no money is involved, as people feel more happy to let away little hints.

(I know this picture here is for some weird advertisement purpose, but its a good way to explain what I mean by open and hidden cards. The 5 cards represent the ones the dealer has placed, and the two are the hidden ones only you can know about!)

Added potential method for Urguan hold em, this is likely to change over time once I can think of a better method to play. At this moment in time, that's all I can think of.
