Tallon Karrde 1 Share Posted August 21, 2013 Apoligies in advance if there are to many questions. Anyway i'll get straigth to it: 1.Is one still allowed to create a character born in a settlement that does/did not actually exist in-game? 2. Are we allowed to write joint background stories, meaning that section of the story would be the same for all 3 characters or are individual perspectives needed? 3. In the background stories, are we allowed to write that our characters have been part of an in-game existing organization, such as the oren military? (they would of course only have been normal soldiers and would not have played any major roles, nor have held any high ranks, except for one of them having been a sergeant) 4. Is it possible for new characters to have participated in major in-game/lore events, more specifically the battle at Castle Greynn, described in A Dance with Death? Now onto to a couple of questions of a more practical nature. (apologies if this is the wrong section for such questions) 5. With the coming implementation of Nexus/Core, we were wondering what the best approach to profession would be. Is it wise to let your character have multiple goals, interests, skills or professions? Example: One of us wishes to be have skills in healing and tinkering but also a newfound and strong interest in magic. Or would it be more advicable to have one's character focus on one particular path, since the "leveling system in core benefits those focusing on advancing in one field? 6. aforementioned member of my group also wants to know whether magics with the implementation of core will work primarily through in-chat rp or through plugins making magics "really" appear and exist on the server? (ofc its a an rp server, so in effect in-chat rp'ed magic is real, but i trust you understand the question" 7. As i understand it, the civilized races have still only been living in Anthos for such a time (10-15 years?) that it is still possible for new characters to have been born and possibly raised in Asulon. Correct? 8. How long can the background story we submit in our applications. is there a recommended length. And are there ways we can submit, utilize or cannonize the parts we would be forced to leave out of the application if a limitation to the submitted backgrounds story does exist? Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions. Sgt_darth_wader. Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions. Sgt_darth_wader. NoMercy2 and JamesGardiner, soon also to be known as Tallon Karrde, Whiskyjack and Adolin Geranid Your character's biography must contain a place, town or city name which does exist in Anthos or did exist in Aegis, Asulon, Kalos or Elysium, so that it follows LoTC lore. You are allowed to write joint backstories with another individual however these should be different and have some original content in each. I would say yes, because the Oren military would be a vast organisation, other smaller more elite organisations I would say no unless you get the permission of the leader. Yes, that is absolutely fine, if fact it is encouraged. I think that focusing on one or two aspects is best regardless of whether Nexus will be here or not, however that would be the best approach for Nexus, however I'd need Telanir to certify that. There will be a magic plugin included with Nexus which gives spells actual Minecraft damage. However you can still choose to RP fight with magic. Yes it is however your character must be older than the time that we have been in Anthos for. With the new application form, the backstory does not have to be too long, however the more detailed it is, the better read it is for us.
Tallon Karrde 1 Author Share Posted August 21, 2013 well you guys are in for a treat then, our background story is currently at 2,5 a4 pages. we will of course try to shorten it upon completion. I am however a tad confused regarding regarding question 1. Since the place described in ones biography has to actually exist or have existed, does that mean that we are required to, or should, contact the leaders of said place in order to gain permission to use it in our bios? also: we are aware that LoTR is overrun by orphans, and characters hailing from destroyed/abandoned villages and that it is therefore adviced that one avoids such backgrounds.. However if our characters were born and raised in Anthos would such that not make such a background unavoidable?

Well, I would say you should have them be born in one of the major settlements, but perhaps just a small settlement could pass... I may need lore-team confirmation on that though :/ You don't need a nation leader's permission to use existing areas, either! Well, not really. Your parents could have brought you over from Kalos/Elysium or just raised you in Anthos. Orphan-stories are never unavoidable.
Neri 3590 Share Posted August 23, 2013 Apoligies in advance if there are to many questions. Anyway i'll get straigth to it: 1.Is one still allowed to create a character born in a settlement that does/did not actually exist in-game? I am pretty sure it can be unstated, or left blank. I did it myself in my biography when I joined as did many others. 2. Are we allowed to write joint background stories, meaning that section of the story would be the same for all 3 characters or are individual perspectives needed? Yes, thats a really nice idea; as long as you give a link to each others apps so the AT member doesn't get confused. 3. In the background stories, are we allowed to write that our characters have been part of an in-game existing organization, such as the oren military? (they would of course only have been normal soldiers and would not have played any major roles, nor have held any high ranks, except for one of them having been a sergeant) Sounds fine to me, as long as they weren't commanders or such. 4. Is it possible for new characters to have participated in major in-game/lore events, more specifically the battle at Castle Greynn, described in A Dance with Death? Sounds perfectly fine to me. As far as i'm aware, a character can be a master of two to three things, with it becoming increasingly difficult with each one after the first. However, if what you plan to level (EG: tinkering) fits in with your RP, i'm sure you'll be a master in no time. Apart from that it's hard to say since very few details on Nexus are known. 6. aforementioned member of my group also wants to know whether magics with the implementation of core will work primarily through in-chat rp or through plugins making magics "really" appear and exist on the server? (ofc its a an rp server, so in effect in-chat rp'ed magic is real, but i trust you understand the question" At the moment, magic is roleplayed and has a few 'physical' forms through the use of our current magic plugin which is frankly pretty bad for a RP server. 7. As i understand it, the civilized races have still only been living in Anthos for such a time (10-15 years?) that it is still possible for new characters to have been born and possibly raised in Asulon. Correct? I thought it was closer to 50, but until the date plugin is finished, nobody can really be sure, so you could probably 'wing it' so to speak. 8. How long can the background story we submit in our applications. is there a recommended length. And are there ways we can submit, utilize or cannonize the parts we would be forced to leave out of the application if a limitation to the submitted backgrounds story does exist? You won't be forced to leave anything out of the application, in fact, an excellent bio is most likely going to guarantee your acceptance as long as you answer most other things correctly. You can always write up your character bio in this forum after you're accepted; http://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/index.php?/forum/277-character-profiles/ Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions. Sgt_darth_wader. NoMercy2 and JamesGardiner, soon also to be known as Tallon Karrde, Whiskyjack and Adolin Geranid Look forward to seeing you ingame! I wish you luck with your application.
