  1. I have been, for the last long while, reading during bedtime the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings to my son. He's 8 now and a very avid and good reader (he reads at a 12-year-old level), but he still loves me reading the Lord of the Rings to him. And of course I do the voices.

Well, tonight, at long last, we finally got to the Bridge of Khazad-Dum. My son is in shock. I'm feeling a bit emotional myself, as one does when he shares an important moment with his son.

    "Is Gandalf the Grey dead?"

I cannot lie to my son, but I can massage the truth.

"Gandalf the Grey is no more."

I'll never forget my dad reading me stories like this (or even making up his own!). Moments like this are so special and I'm glad you have this with your kiddo, even the difficult parts of the stories :)
