I have been, for the last long while, reading during bedtime the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings to my son. He's 8 now and a very avid and good reader (he reads at a 12-year-old level), but he still loves me reading the Lord of the Rings to him. And of course I do the voices.
Well, tonight, at long last, we finally got to the Bridge of Khazad-Dum. My son is in shock. I'm feeling a bit emotional myself, as one does when he shares an important moment with his son.
"Is Gandalf the Grey dead?"
I cannot lie to my son, but I can massage the truth.
"Gandalf the Grey is no more."
