Ma’ always said I had a sweet smile, and I never forgot hers. Charles Henway born to a hardworking Highland farming family, and at a young age, Charles was raised under his father to tend to the lands provided to them as best as they could. Charles’ mother would teach him to read and write when not in the fields. Among many of the stories read and learned about nothing came close to learning about the great city nations, especially of the Kingdom of Renatus, and it’s first Phoenix King. Nothing came quickly to the Henways’ and especially got worse when the blight came upon their rye fields. With food shortages arising, Charles’ mother opted to feed her young son than her own knowing well enough the consequences. Sickly of malnourishment Charle’s mother passed from this world, leaving behind a now grieving father and son to find the blight on their own. Even with his mother gone, Charles continued to read as much as he could while his father slowly wasted away into a bottle. Upon near loss of all the crop, a sole wanderer came to the village, now sorrowing away with no product to sell. At seeing the villages plight, the wonderer gathered everyone in the town to hear him, for he offered salvation for their crop. “One silver piece,” the Wanderer said, “One silver piece for each farmland, and I shall purge the blight from your fields.” Several gasps followed and whispers of “Can he really?””Oh, All-father, has this man come to save us from this blight?” Cowering and watching from behind his father’s hip, Charles tugged his father’s tonic. “Pa’ do you think he can really do it?” wimped a nervous Charles. “Of Course he can’t, men like him promise something he can’t give,” grunted Father. Not wanting to give up faith in the wondered and his promise, and unwilling to go up to the man directly with a crowd gathered Charles followed the man for several days to see if he’d make on his promise to another farmer. No more then a day later, a farming family made the payment to Wonderer to help their Fields. Not wanting to miss the occasion, Charles went to watch the main preform his miserable. After receiving payment, the wonder outstretched his hand above and invoked the land back to life. In mear minutes, life returned the crops. Dumbfounded Charles vowed to learn from the man who could bring back plants. Packing as soon as Charles could to leave, he did so to find and follow this man but was left empty-handed as the Wonderer had left after performing his miracle. Staying with his father until coming of age to leave on his own to find a way to master the mysteries of the earth and soil.
