  7. C A E L O D E L E N D A E S T Issued and confirmed by Ser Gawyn Tiber in the name of the Crown, 1936 A painting depicting an Aaunic Legionnaire battling a Caelian raider Written below is a recollection of the night’s events by a Whitespirian citizen; Amidst the golden hues of a setting sun, a rhythmic beat could be heard. The drumming sound of armorclad men stepping into the confines of the marble city was apparent to all. Under the cover of dusk they had hoped to be concealed by the shadows the towering city cast, however, were soon confronted following their recent royal ban. Within the streets, the men and women of Whitespire sought safety within the confines behind the iron bars that separate the Hand of Horen from the greater City of Whitespire. However, with the leadership of Ser Gawyn Tiber, the industrious citizens rallied alongside one another to defend their fair city from the band of Caelians. They were offered passage, and warned of the severity of their ban, but such attempts were not fruitful. After a fierce combat, where the Whitespire citizens outnumbered the Caelian rally six to three, the Caelians were defeated and brought to trial. Quickly, were the surviving Caelians brought to trial before The Grandmaster and the Viscountess of Valence. Where, despite the uproar from the people, the youngest of the three was spared and punished with the loss of his hand alongside confession held by the Bishop Buron and a life under the watchful eye of God. By the night’s end, two of their men were hanged, and the youngest of the three promised to the church with only a hand missing as penance for his crimes. A DECREE REGARDING THE CAELIANS Confirmed by the Viscountess of Valence In this, the year of our Lord, 1936, the Caelians have been brought to justice in a Court of Law. Following a failed attempt of a raid, in hopes to harm merchant brothers, Boon and Bane, they were captured and stood trial before the Grandmaster and dowager Crown Princess. Verdict was delivered sentencing the elder two to hang, and the youngest to lose a hand and be conscripted to the church as he confessed his guilt for his crimes. Despite this, the ban is still in effect and Caelians seen within our ivory city are to be brought to justice for their crimes. SIGNED, Her Royal Highness, Adela of High Peak Viscountess of Valence, Dowager Lady of Alba Sir Gawyn of House Tiber
  8. On Margravine Philippa von Reuss Issued by the Margraviate of Velen, 1936 It is with a heavy heart that the Margravial Household of Reuss announces the death of our Margravine Philippa Ilena. After years of illness, and a regency led by her beloved husband Margrave consort Leufroy of Lewes, she has finally passed from this realm to the next. With beginnings in the humble County of Revedin, born to Margravine Guinivere von Reuss and her husband, Norland noble, Harald Ragnarsson, Philippa always held within her a deep love for the country from which she came. The Aschenwald, and the people they hosted, were close within our Margravine’s heart and kept at the forefront of her mind in all decisions she made. The Last Will of HL, the Margravine of Velen Philippa Ilena von Reuss On the matter of my titles and holdings, I bequeath these, the Margraviate of Velen, the Counties of Cantal and Revedin, the Baronies of Mons Cantal and the Aschenwald, and my electorate seat on the Waldenic diet unto my son S I E G M U N D O T T O. To my children, Alongside my titles and holdings, to my son, Siegmund, I leave the Crown of Revedin and Orksbane, relics of House von Reuss. To my eldest daughter, Adelheid, I leave my collection of jewels, with the exception of the Crown of Revedin that shall be retrofitted to better suit the new Margrave. These shall await you upon your return to Whitespire. To my daughter, Katharina, I leave my tomes. I advise you seek out the sage advice of Mother Anna should you come to a crossroads in your life. To my husband, Within my bedside table, there is a note. I leave you naught of this world. ISSUED AND CONFIRMED BY, Philippa Ilena von Reuss HIS LORDSHIP, Siegmund Otto von Reuss, Margrave of Velen, Count of Cantal and Revedin, Baron of Mons Velena and the Aschenwald, Lord Commander of the Velenic Guard
  9. The Lady Alba's eyes trained on a lone rider entering through the gates of Whitespire, her lips curled upward as he neared her, unknowing. In a moment, her future was stripped away. Her children were fatherless, the husk of a woman that was left was in no place to be a shining example for the babes they had brought into this world together. 'We were supposed to do this together' she thought to herself as she silently followed, eyes trained on the corpse of her husband. For months after Adela awoke with nightmares of the Prince's corpse, she hoped to awake at his flank but the bed remained empty... the palatial suite had a certain coldness to it now, one that she could not shake.
  10. The, now dowagered, Lady of Alba stood alongside the Prince of Merryweather as he delivered the news unto a group of unsuspecting courtiers. Within her, not only was her husband lost, but the future they prepared for together. Now all that was left of it were the two children they sired, the elder of the pair swaddled within her arms..
  11. With overwhelming gratitude and an exuberant spirit, we bow in humble appreciation to the Almighty for granting us the opportunity to celebrate. Our hearts overflow with joy as we acknowledge the countless blessings bestowed upon us by the Lord above. In this moment of pure jubilation, we lift our voices high, offering thanks beyond measure for a world brimming with abundance. From fertile lands that yield bountiful harvests to oceans teeming with life. To the subjects of the Aaunic crown, The Lady Alba invites all Aaunic citizens to partake in a month-long festival in the city of Whitespire where the festival-goers may immerse themselves in revelry unlike any other on this continent. Music shall reverberate through the streets, enticing all who hear it to join in the jovial jollification. All shall be allowed, within the law, and all are free to be whomever they wish. While an event such as this holds no true requirements, the Lady of Alba suggests guests don bright and multicolored outfits to match the outrageous decor. TIMETABLE I. 12. The Lady of Alba lays eyes upon her daughter c.1935 In the midst of a busy day, the Lady of Alba, alongside Reverend Mother Anna Lucilla, was ushered hastily to her residence within the Hand of Horen. For nearly eight months prior the Crown Princess had been burdened with pregnancy and now that could finally see an end. After what seemed like weeks, night had turned to day, and many of the King’s advisors and the princess’ own ladies-in-wait had been called to witness the birth of what was sure to be a second son to secure the line of succession, however, much to the disappointment of the High Aaunic Council, a girl was brought forth. Still, the Lord and Lady Alba seemed content with the babe, more so the latter of the two. By Her Royal Highness Adela of High Peak, Lady of Alba; To all to whom these declarations shall be conveyed, we extend our most esteemed greetings. The munificence of The Good Lord, in His boundless benevolence, has deigned to bless us with the advent of a Princess, to the immense delight of the Royal Household. With hearts aglow with hope and fervor, we embrace the auspicious unfolding of welcoming our second-born progeny into the realm of existence. By these letters, therefore, We advertise and proclaim that our daughter shall be given the name MARY CECILIA (@neii) and that we pray unto Almighty God for her safekeeping, good health, prosperity, and preservation of the Princess, who shall one day be the Princess Royal of Aaun. Given under our Seal at the Hand of Horen, Witnessed by Us and Holy Mother Anna of Alstion on the 14th day of Godfrey’s Triumph, 1935. WITH GREAT ELATION, Her Royal Highness, Adela of High Peak, the Lady of Alba; Crown Princess consort of Aaun Confirmed by; Mother Anna of Alstion, The Abbess of St. Jude

  14. The Lady of Alba following the birth of her son The Lady of Alba, much to her discomfort, waddled up the winding stairs of the Hand of Horen. Accompanied by trusted guard, Gawyn Tiber, and Father Mikhael, the Lady of Alba finally made her way to her chambers near the spire’s highest floor. Soon thereafter, upon the realization that the sickness that had plagued the Crown Princess for months prior was, in fact, a much awaited pregnancy. Upon such a realization many of the King’s advisors and the Lady Alba’s own ladies in waiting were swiftly called to the palace, namely Lady Isabella Varoche- the crown princess’ closest confidant. After what seemed to be days the babe was born, much to the excitement of those present, a boy was presented to them. By Her Royal Highness Adela of High Peak, Lady of Alba; To all whom these presents shall come, we greet you. It has pleased the goodness of Almighty God, of his infinite mercy and grace, to send unto Us at this time, the deliverance and bringing of a Prince to the world, to the great joy and comfort of my Lord Alba; to whom We give great thanks for his inestimable kindness unto Us at this time as our Rock and most undoubtedly beloved husband, who We most humbly show our heart to in this time of great pleasure and celebration. By these letters, therefore, We advertise and proclaim that our son shall be given the name EDMUND ALEXANDER and that we pray unto Almighty God for his safekeeping, good health, prosperity, and preservation of the Prince. 19. Issued the 24th of Harren’s Folly, 1930 The Kingdom of Aaun THE AAUNIC REIFENIA The rite of maturation of the Aaunic peoples. ‘Nobles Set Sail’ by Fenika of Vidaus Penned by HRH the Lady of Alba Published by the Clementine Court INTRODUCTORY NOTES For many years, on the various continents we, humanity, have inhabited, the act of maturation has been a milestone of great importance in the life of those royal and common alike. Traditionally styled as the ‘Social Season’ in heartlander culture, or the Haeseni ‘Lifstala’ and the Balianese ‘Symposia Pragma’, what’s to be known as the Aaunic Reifenia within the Aaunic realm shall replace its predecessors in the Heartlands as the nationwide rite of maturation. The Aaunic Reifenia is to be far shorter than those of the Heartland’s past; it shall only span over a few saint’s days, whereas those of imperial frivolity would span over an entire saint’s week. The festivities shall mostly remain within the capital, though vassals are encouraged to invite participants of the festival to their holdings throughout the realm for culturally specific events that showcase the various bustling cultures of Aaun. STRUCTURE & PURPOSE Purpose and Proper Formalities Purpose The season is to reflect the decentralized style of government practiced throughout the Kingdom, and the values of familial ties are to remain at the forefront of the Reifenia and all of the accompanying events. The Reifenia itself shall be configured in a somewhat less formal style than its predecessors (The Orenian Astercalia), though the previously established etiquette of the Kingdom, and stylings of the various nobles shall be continuously in place. The rich culture that’s present within Aaun is encouraged to be showcased in, both, the dress of the debutantes and in private events hosted by the vassals. While the Reifenia is sure to inspire couplings across the participants, it is important to note that this is not a main focus of the season as a whole. The Aaunic Reifenia is meant to act as a season in which the youth of Aaun will begin their transition into adulthood, and to celebrate such a momentous milestone in any Aaunic person’s life. Proper Formalities It is important to keep in mind the proper etiquette put in place, and respected, throughout the realm while navigating the Aaunic Reifenia. Events of the Reifenia are to be regarded as a similar level of importance as Royal Court, and thus proper etiquette is to be followed in regards to regalia and vestments worn by Aaunic nobility. Due to the lack of publications regarding the proper etiquette of Royal Court, the stylings of each tier of nobility and royalty is laid out simply below; Addressments of the Tiers of Nobility Grand Prince/Princess - His/Her Serene Highness Children of a Grand Prince are styled with the honorific His Highness alongside any subsidiary titles they hold. Non-Royal Prince/Princess - His/Her Highness Unlike the Grand Prince, children of a Non-Royal Prince are not styled with the honorific His/Her Highness, but instead are styled as His/Her Lord/Ladyship alongside any subsidiary titles they hold. Duke/Duchess - His/Her Grace Children of a Duke are styled as His/Her Lord/Ladyship alongside any subsidiary titles they hold. Margrave/Margravine - His/Her Lady/Lordship In writing a Margrave is afforded the ability to sign documents using the honorific The Most Honorable. Children of a Margrave are styled as His/Her Lord/Ladyship alongside any subsidiary titles they hold. Count/Countess - His/Her Lord/Ladyship In writing a Count may style himself as The Right Honorable. Children of a Count are styled as His/Her Lord/Ladyship. Viscount/Viscountess - His/Her Lord/Ladyship In writing a Viscount has the right to style himself as The Right Honorable. The Viscount’s children are styled as His/Her Lord/Ladyship. Baron/Baroness - His/Her Lord/Ladyship A Baron has only one honorific and signs documents with only His Lordship. The children of a Baron are styled as His/Her Lord/Ladyship. More detailed works regarding etiquette of the kingdom is to be published in the near future. THE REIFENIA The Rite and its Structure The Reifenia is managed by the Mistresses of Reifenia, a tribunal composed of Her Majesty the Queen, the Lady of Alba, and a third royal member of the House of Alstion. The rite itself is somewhat simple, lacking many formalities often seen in maturation ceremonies around the continent. The event is more akin to a banquet than presentations as noble houses are expected to arrive as familial assemblies composed of the Lord and Lady of the House, flanked by any children of the immediate or extended family (bearing the same last name) of the age of sixteen or greater. Upon the arrival of each house they are announced and present themselves before the Mistresses of Reifenia and join the others present at the banquet following their arrival. The congregation as a whole are welcomed to talk among themselves and intermingle at the start of the season. The inaugural event acts as both the opening ball and the presentations.
  20. Adela returned from Numêndil, her shoulders lowered with a huff of air as her eyes cast up the ivory walls of Whitespire. Her lips pressed in a grin as she returned into her home, the city now bustling with news of the upcoming wedding.
