  1. THE BROTHERHOOD OF THE HALLOWED FLAME ♩ ♪ ♫ ♬ ♭ =THE ORDER’S HISTORY= The Hallowed Flame has its origins in the Commonwealth of Kaedrin of the Savoyard Kingdom of Oren and early Johannian Empire; founded in the year 1520 by the Count of Roseden, Arstan Bedell, at the behest of Magnate Cantonus Chivay, a zealous Owynist warrior caste was established as the vanguard of the Commonwealth. Embracing the fiery sun of their lord Owyn and his dogma as the basis of a new creed, the Order was established as a militant force dedicated to the pursuit of justice, and those ideals laid out before them. The first founding of the Order was comprised of the wilted remnants of the Flaming Rose, and other true-hearted Kaedreni men who served with zeal at the behest of the Chivay Lord of the Commonwealth. However, as the early months of the Order panned out, dissent and mutiny arose amongst the ranks in the form of a certain Hadrian Chivay. Following the assassination of Cantonus Chivay, the title of Grandmaster fell upon his shoulders, and the Order subsequently stagnated following the excommunication of its founder at the hands of the Canonist Church as the result of an incident involving the murder of a Carrion claimant to the Imperial Throne. Its men scattered to the wind, and the Order reduced to a husk, it was dissolved in 1533. Recently, however, the Order has been given new life in order to serve as the militant hand of the one true Canonist Church in an era of renewed strife, standing in opposition to the schismatic Pontiff of the pretender Marnas in support of High Pontiff Siegmund I. In contrast to its earlier iteration, the newly established Order touts the philosophy and virtue of the Imperial Cult, espousing a mixture of traditional Owynist belief and reverence for the cleansing fire of the Prophet alongside the exaltation of the Dragonblooded and the divine right of the House of Horen through Pertinax the Dragonknight, serving to that end in both the protection of their church, as well as their divinely-anointed Emperor, Godfrey III. Injustice across the Empire is met with fire and steel, and those who would dare threaten the virtuous are put to the stake. Yet, their righteous crusade for the purging of all that is wicked and unjust does not end with the Marnantines rebels that threaten the unity of mankind. Maleficarum do not find solace in the wake of their march, nor do cultists of vile practices and dark creeds. Many a blasphemer has been put to the stake - burned aloft for all to spectate - at the hands of the most just. In this day and age, faith wanes and rising to supplement it is the zeal and piety of the Dragon’s adherents. A new age dawns, and it dawns in fire. =TENETS OF THE ORDER= The Order of the Hallowed Flame prides itself in discipline, and in this discipline comes a strict dogma in which each man is required to adhere to. I. REMAIN ETERNALLY FAITHFUL TO HOREN’S COVENANT AND THE HOLY FIRE It is they, Blessed Horens, that guides the realms of man, and their Holy Fire that assures our salvation when we pass on to the otherworld. Never lose faith in the Dragonsblood and Its’ Flame, for to do so would spell doom. Without faith, we cannot ever hope to succeed, and we shall fail as those who came before us have. Faith is our weapon, so wield it true. II. TOLERATE NOT THE IDOLATOR NOR PAGAN, FOR HE IS UNCLEAN Each man is required to show no sympathies towards those of nonhuman faith, unrenounced of vile origin. And why would they? Owyn led man against the Harrenites, and so have generations of Horen seen to the curtailing of fell realms since; it is foolish to believe one could redeem themselves. III. BRING HIS LIGHT TO THE DARK FOR THERE ARE SOULS TO BE SAVED If the basis of our order is built upon the reverence of Horen and the Hallowed Flame, then we must hasten to spread his teachings across the realm. And to those who openly shun his ways, they are no better than the mongrels who lay with elves and pray before trees. Death to him, in the most righteous of fire. IV. RESPECT YOUR BROTHERS, WHO LIVE AND DIE BESIDE YOU At the core of any order is tried-and-true camaraderie. Fight not amongst yourselves, but find it within to make brotherly ties with your fellow soldier. For mutual respect and friendship make a man fight harder on the field to battle, in defense of their comrade. V. NEVER FALTER IN THE FACE OF THE ENEMY To parade fear in the ranks, and to quiver before a foe is the greatest dishonor known. Have faith, for the Fire safeguards us against sword and lance. Falter not, and remain as a redoubt before your foemen and you will have no trouble in dispatching them. =RELIGIOUS DOGMA= NO EVIL CAN SURVIVE THE HOLY FIRE; THE HOLY FIRE ENLIGHTENS, IT BURNS AND IT CLEANSES. BEHOLD THE FLAME OF GRACE AND MERCY MADE MANIFOLD Ever-evident, both through namesake and nature, is the Order’s veneration of the Hallowed Flame; the primordial light bestowed upon Mankind through their covenant with GOD and his earthly agents. All that stems from that light and covenant is revered as being a thing of great divinity; the dragonsblood of the Horen, bound with primordial fire and the right of Emperors, the words of Exalted Owyn, and the ever-cast shadows of Humanity’s most watchful guardians. They offer their prayer to it all through fire and flame: prayer, sacrifice, and carrying out Exalted Owyn’s work in purifying all of GOD’s creation. It is those duties that compelled GOD’s most leal followers to join together and combat the decaying moral front that beset the edges of society; faith in the purifying light of creation and the mandate of GOD and Exalted Owyn alike. It breeds the necessity of deed over word, and of stringent measure before saccharine words and preaching; for, as the ancient and self-evident words go, soft time breeds weak men; hard times breed great men. Intolerance of false idolatry and pagan veneration is inherently necessary to maintain the goodwill of GOD and his Prophets, be they Dragonblooded Horen or the immaculate Owyn. The enemies of duty and faith are manifold; from the perfidious and scheming Dwarven Merchants, revering bones and dust, to the idolatry of the Elven Druidics who revere aspects of the Lord GOD’s creation rather than Him and all that represents the eternal light he bestowed upon the mortal planes. Worse, yet, is the man who turns on his blood and fails to supplicate themselves before their Rightly Divine liege-lord Horen; for it was them GOD laid the Crown of Humanity on the brow of, and none other. Much like the treasured sons and brothers of Owyn, the holiest rite one can enact in the eyes of the Brotherhood is to offer tribute to the Lord in Heaven; there is nothing that appeases our vengeful GOD more than the death of the foeman and give unto the fields of man his ashes as nutrient. It is known to the Brotherhood that the last noises that escape the enflamed witch & pagan mouths are nothing short of the tongue of God. =HIERARCHY OF THE ORDER= -SENIOR COMMAND- GRANDMASTER Incumbent: Friar Tuck [Key_of_Solomon] The Grandmaster holds supreme command over the entirety of the Order, whose orders are to be followed without question and doubt. This office is to be held until death, and provided that the Grandmaster had not designated an heir, the Chapter Masters shall convene and appoint another through discussion and vote. -HIGH COMMAND- CHAPTER MASTER Incumbent: Francois de Vignoble | Sigismund Bedell The Chapter Masters are the appointed commanders of the Order beneath the supervision of the Grandmaster, always chosen from among the anointed knights of the faith. Holding authority over all other knights as well as enlisted members of the Order, they oversee pay, discipline and equipment across the board. Entrusted with leading men during times of war, drilling the soldiery and ensuring a standard of quality is maintained within the Order, they sit as advisors to the Grandmaster and offer their counsel in matters of faith, tactics and war. HOLY KNIGHT Anointed Knights of the Canonist Church, Holy Sers of the Order of the Hallowed Flame make up the core veterency of the Order, expected to be competent in both war and in faith. It is considered a high honor within the Order, and commands a certain level of respect in itself. They hold the authority to call upon a small detachment of Ordermen to serve at their behest, and are expected to take charge in the absence of ranking superiors. -ENLISTED ORDER MEMBERS- MAN-AT-ARMS The Man-At-Arms is the rank-and-file soldier of the Order. Equipped with castle-forged steel and a higher salary than that of their footmen counterparts, they have been enlisted into the ranks for a significant amount of time, and are often promoted on the basis of merit or loyal service. FOOTMAN The Footman is the entry-level enlisted soldier. Given a bunk, an annual salary and armed with mail and steel, these men make up the backbone of the order and are by far the most numerous amongst its ranks. Discipline is expected, and those who step out of line are punished severely. 7. Zecharael, Once-Aengul of Justice Image credit to Snodsnow Sigil -- Closed Gauntlet Long forgotten to the aeons and only whispered of in the most archaic and ancient of celestial repositories, the Aengul Zecharael once stood among the heavens as a paragon of justice; his was a station demanding of respect, righteous and impartial. From his gilded court, he presided over the material and divine planes and doled out judgment upon all. Yet there were those who sought to rise above the rule of law and it was their undoing that Zecharael relished in, for no being was above justice - not even the Aengudaemon whose majesty was born of celestial grace and this would prove to be his bane. When Iblees reared his head in defiance of the Heavens, he made it his purpose to seek out and pass judgment upon all those who saw fit to join in the Betrayer’s folly, and many did face retribution at the hands of Justice. So engrossed did Zecharael become in this single-minded pursuit that he neglected his duties and would no longer preside over the judgment of the many, rendering his celestial court desolate and untended. It was during this era of strife that he came to an impasse with the Lord of Sunlight, who brazenly committed sacrilege with his intervention into the material realm and the siring of an abomination born of a mortal. Justice would have raised a hand to strike him down were it not for their ongoing conflict with Iblees and his subsequent death at the Betrayer's hands. The Gilded Court of Zecharael Before he was slain doing battle with Iblees, Zecharael ruled from his domain - known simply as the Gilded Court. It was an expansive chamber of gilded stone lined with statues of marble and motifs of heavenly design. Always was Zecharael’s domain bright with the incandescent light of the heavens, and from atop his lofty throne did Justice damn those guilty to punishment for their transgressions. However, it has fallen into disuse with the absence of its lord. What were once bright halls that were host to constant tribunals are now desolate, silent and empty of life and utterly devoid of light. Untouched, the Court remains as a fragment of the Aengul’s power and persists in the celestial plane. History Zecharael was once heralded as a champion among the rank of the Aenguls. His name was Justice and thus did he preside over the righteous and brought suffering to those who did not bask in the light of the Heavens. The Aengul Zecharael was closely aligned to two others- Xan, for through order there was law, and through law, justice; and Eshtael, who brought balance in her wake and served as warden to many of those found guilty of his arbitrations. When the Betrayer revealed his nature and cast his siblings aside in his mad quest, Zecharael was among the first to heed the call of the Archaengul and bring glorious battle to Iblees and those who stood with him. As the conflict dragged on, the Aengul came to a realization - that the divine were not above justice, and that they too had to be tried for their crimes were the natural order to be maintained. He became obsessed with this singular purpose which would inevitably drive him to turn on the beloved Lord of Sunlight - Xan, who he so loved and cherished. When Order made his descent into the mortal plane and sired children with a mortal woman, Zecharael was among the few who would openly challenge their brother, and in this discourse animosity was fostered between the two. However, his wrath would not come to pass for the Aengul of Justice was slain in the war against the Betrayer - killed doing battle with the Archdaemon himself. His mantle was taken on by Tahariae and his name faded into obscurity. Authorship Bagley, Concept and Writing Archangel_Avacyn, Concept and Consultation

  9. ♫ “In the days of yore, when Aegis yet hosted descendant life, there existed two, ancient towers, whose names were Aemon and Daemon. It is said that therein, the race of dragons made covenant with the race of Man. The god Dragur - whose very breath animated stone into life, birthing dragons - so fancied Men, admiring their indomitable wills and capacity for genius. His children, the Dragaar were bestowed unto Man as guardians, forever sworn to safeguard the nascent sons of Horen. It is rumored that this covenant is accredited to Horen’s adoption of a black dragon as his personal standard.” - On Men and Dragons, alleged records of an Aegisian Scribe The Azdrazi are the ancient scions of the Aegisian Knights who pledged themselves to the chieftain of dragons. Theirs is a path of sworn devotion, both in spirit and body. Enamored with the grandeur of Dragur’s children, the progenitors of the order strove to be like their idols in every way. Donning scaled armor, they dressed like their gods. Ascending the highest mountains, they took to the skies like their gods. Wielding fire, they fought like their gods. The greatest of the dragons, Azdromoth - who so honored the covenant between Horen and Dragur - bestowed the gift of dragonflame unto the souls of the aspirants in return for eternal, leal service. Beneath the wings of their lord, the ancient Azdrazi - as named for their master - erected great bastions of dragon worship. Their feats were without rival. The Azdrazi, in all their might, were without means to reproduce. Their seed sowed life as it was before their transformation. Their scions were without the dragonflame they so cherished. Dragon worship yet persisted for aeons, passed down by hopeful, but fruitless, aspirants. Their worship yielded naught. Azdromoth’s defeat at the hands of Eshtael damned them to a slow demise. The greatest were petrified, buried with their master. The weakest died alone, crumbling into ash. The Azdrazi of old were requited naught by the years. They were never again to feel the warmth of fire without the presence of their ancient, imprisoned master. The Tribulations of Ascendance The Tribulations are a set of trials in which every potential Azdrazi endures. They form the very heart of their culture, a culture based upon overcoming adversities to the betterment of oneself. The tribulations are said to have been instituted in honor of Azdromoth according to the more senior and wizened of their kin. It is told that in eons past, their father traveled the world carried by ivory wings and an implacable thirst for knowledge and wisdom on all things, undertaking numerous feats of body and mind alike as testaments to his prestige. Thus did his children, the Azdrazi, follow in his stead. To lose one’s humanity to the process of Transference is a harrowing ordeal and to this day only the strongest and most competent of aspirants survive to undergo the process. When an aspirant seeking to be brought into the fold of Azdromoth’s brood makes their intentions known, they are brought before a gathering of the Azdrazi. There, they must ‘sell’ their qualities to the assembly, who might deign whether or not the aspirant is worthy of their time and may begin their trials. In order to be accepted and taken into the fold, the Aspirant must be sponsored by two Azdrazi who shall vouch for and endorse the person’s potential as an aspirant. This is typically done mid-assembly. After the conditions of sponsorship are met, the aspirant shall be given to one of their sponsors who will oversee their progress and guide them on the Tribulations of Ascendance as their designated mentor. Once they are officially taken under the wing of an Azdrazi, they are required to inhibit Tor Azdraeth for the duration of their trials. The Tribulations consist of six trials which an aspirant is required to complete. Failure in any one of these trials is likely to result in the death of the aspirant or their banishment from the grounds of Tor Azdraeth. Customs In emulation of their master and forebear, the Azdrazi have taken on a number of customs and tradition which they call their own. The Immaculate Blade The Immaculate Blade is a title that has for long shaped the fortunes of the Azdrazi. The rise and fall of these draconic champions can most always be accredited to the Blade. Theirs is a sacred charge bestowed unto them by Azdromoth himself. The Immaculate Blade serves as the Warden of the Azdrazi, a lofty honor of which few are worthy, overseeing both creation and destruction of fledgling Azdrazi. They tend to the flock of Azdromoth, watching over the Tribulations of Ascendance and safeguarding the secrets of their order. It is the Immaculate Blade who doles out punishment for those who have wronged their kind, wielding the feared ability to sever the inner-flame of Azdrazi and inflict permanent death upon his kin. Draconic Names When an Aspirant is deemed worthy to undergo the Transference after completing the Tribulations of Ascendance, it is required of them to take on a new name. The Azdrazi, regardless of their origin, inevitability lose much of their persona - their humanity, as it were, once they take on the boon of Azdromoth’s covenant. It was the belief of the ancient elders of the Azdrazi that taking on a name born of the draconic tongue would signify the death of their old self and final ascendance into their new state of being. It is a practice that carries into the modern day, tying in with the sixth and final tribulation. Chronicles Knowledge is sacred to all dragonkin and Azdrazi are no exception to this. It is said that one of the first Azdrazi was so obsessed with preserving a record of his feats and wisdom that he carved an account of his life onto the walls of a great cavern in the underbelly of Azdromoth’s fortress. As time went on, many of his brothers began to emulate him by carving their own murals into the cavern walls, depicting how they lived and their many accomplishments. So engrossed were some Azdrazi in this form of preserving histories that they would take up hammer and chisel, dedicating themselves to the art of sculpting what they would call chronicles to ensure that their stories would not go untold and went on to spread this practice to the far-flung strongholds of their kin across Aegis. It is continued into the modern era with the inhabitants of Tor Azdraeth preserving the ancient murals and adding their own within the repository. Hoarding The process of Transference imparts a great many qualities onto the Azdrazi, making them closer in likeness and in mind to the Dragaar than to mortal men. These draconic champions emulate their creator in a number of ways, and one of these is an inborn desire to maintain a hoard. As greater dragonkin would keep vast hoards of material wealth or knowledge, so too do the Azdrazi strive to accumulate collections of oddities to augment their pride. While it is not uncommon to keep hoards of treasure, most Azdrazi cherish items of relevance to their past life; a soldier might collect trophies of conflicts long-past while, on the other hand, someone who was a tailor would amass something as mundane as textiles. It is subjective to the individual as no two Azdrazi are the same. It is customary that when Azdrazi answer the call to summons by the Immaculate Blade, they will bring with them an item from their hoard to deposit into the repository beneath Tor Azdraeth. Weaponry The warrior culture of the Azdrazi breeds a certain reverence for their weapons. They are extensions of themselves, both literally and figuratively. Once an Azdrazi has undergone the Transference, they forge their blade of burnsteel in a ritualistic process where their own blood is mixed into the molten ore to impart upon it special properties, after which it is tempered through Dragonfire. For an Azdrazi to be stripped of their weapon is one of the greatest dishonors they can face and is employed as a punishment for those who overstep their boundaries. The Immaculate Blade may at any time demand the sword of an Azdrazi. Those who refuse would blaspheme, warranting their execution and the destruction of their chronicle. Beliefs Chief among these is their reverence for the befouled scion of dragonkind - to others, Azdromoth is a herald of apocalypse; god-eater, defiler. Yet, the Azdrazi do not see him only for the warped creature that he has become and never has their love for their father diminished. His path is a misguided one and ever are his children earnest in their desire to set him free from the weight placed upon his shoulders - to disenthrall him of the Betrayer’s chains. They call him First Born, Giver of Flame, Father of Giants, Lord of the Sky and Protector of the Faithful and his is a majesty is deserving of praise. While the Azdrazi do not necessarily adhere to any one faith, they venerate the memory of their patron, echoes of a time where he held the world upright upon his ivory wings. As the scion of a noble bloodline of man would honor the name of their forebear, so too do the Azdrazi honor their father from whose covenant they are born. For the Azdrazi, death is not lasting. From their covenant with Azdromoth, they are blessed with eternal life. Yet the cycle of ascension comes to an end always, and it is inevitable that an Azdrazi will perish in time - be it by their own hands or by forces greater than themselves. They do not view death as a tragedy worthy of mourning and grief and instead exalt those who have perished in service to the greater good. It is taught by the scions of Azdromoth that when one of their own returns to the earth, their dragonflame endures becoming as starlight, illuminating the night sky whilst their spirit passes on into the halls of Dragur. These distant embers are cataloged by the Azdrazi who attribute many of the constellations to fallen champions of their order, using them as a means to teach their folklore and immortalize the valor of these fallen heroes. Mortal man is viewed in the opposite, however. Unlike the Azdrazi who meticulously catalog their experience so that future generations might reap the boon of their wealth of knowledge, the human mind is nascent and snuffed out ever too quickly by the Deceiver’s curse, leaving much wisdom lost to the ages. So too are fallen mortals honored by the Azdrazi, especially those slain by their hand. They will take the corpse of the fallen with all their possessions and engulf them in dragonfire. It is a common belief amongst Dragonkin that their inner fire signifies purity, thus they effectively cleanse the deceased of their impurities and herald their ascension into the afterlife. It is not uncommon for the ashes of exceptional men to be kept and held by the Azdrazi in urns engraved with a recollection of their most notable deeds.
