Astraeus sits patiently at a small desk within his home. He waits for his brother, Pallas, to depart from his home before he moves to pen a letter to Phaedrus. Astraeus presses a pen into the paper, and begins to write a note to the leader of elberu'cinhir.
Dear Phaedrus, Anillir of Elberu'cinhir,
I am Astraeus Acius, of the Acius family. My elder cousin, Phanes Acius, served this order at a much older time. I am one who has always moved to uphold and stand to the law to the letter, for law is the separation of man and beast. The descent into chaos is one I seek to avoid in its entirety, for myself, my family, my race. It is for these reasons that I am penning you this letter to cite my interest in your lawful and just guard force. In regards to your specific application, I shall move to answer all of the listed questions to the best of my ability. I am one hundred and twenty years of age during the penning of this letter. When you shall read or receive it, I do not know. I am indeed Mali'ame, as is the whole of the line of Acius. I am fully aware of the contents of the Second Concordat of Haelun'or, and I would not be penning a personal letter to you expressing this interest if I was an impure mali'aheral, or any mix of aheral-ame blood. Such would be a waste of both your time and mine. You ask of my skills in martial combat, and here I may indulge arrogance for a short time. I am a highly adept spearman, who trained under the watchful eye of Phanes Acius. My archery skills, however, leave something to be desired, as I have not trained duly in that field. As a swordsman, I am wholly average, though I must admit to never having armed myself with a falcata, nor a glaive. I do not hold a residence in Lin'ame at this time, for I am not aware of any houses that are available without cost. If one could be found, I would surely take up residence within Lin'ame. However, my true home shall always be at the Acium, with my family. Surely yourself, as an engaged man can understand the importance of familial ties. The Code of Elberu'cinhir is one I swear to uphold and abide by. I am a lawful man, and you can expect no failure in my ability to be an upstanding member of your ranks. I have read over the code exactly forty-four times, and I play to read it a forty-fifth at the end of this letter. I understand that my will and intent shall be tested during my path among your men, and I am prepared for any test of will, mentality, physicality, or law you give to me.
Signed with Interest,
Astraeus Acius.
Astraeus leans back, and nods to his finished letter. He sets the letter to dry, and scans his eyes for the forty-fifth time over the law of Elberu'cinhir. As the letter dries, Astraeus sets a tan hand upon a well of blue wax, and melts it over candle-top. He folds the letter promptly, and seals it with an azure waxy stamp of three stars intertwined, an 'A' sitting in the space they create. He beckons to the courier outside, and offers the letter, and a hefty sum of fifty minas. With a singular nod, the courier scampers off, hoping to depart before Astraeus has realized he has over-payed. Astraeus settles back into his home, and cracks an amphora of fine wine, awaiting a response.
