We couldn’t be trusted with fire,

Lest we burn the house down.

I didn’t understand then,

Ideals too lofty for my young mind.

But now, as the walls are blackened,

and I have lived the life I lived,

Now I know that those before me were wise.

there was only destruction in my end,

Now the soot falls from the sky,

Piling around me in ash mounds.

I wish I would have listened to those words,

Now the world I have is not what I want.
