  1. Vedran of Gjoll, now Vedran de Wees, follows after his comrade and mentor. He’d accompany Gereon on his journeys throughout the cosmos; a vivid, amethyst-hued feather stuck in his trusty hat all throughout it. And so he left, ready to start a potato farm elsewhere.
  2. The denizens of Arcas would see a massive comet, of nigh indescribable scale, approach closer and closer with each passing moment of the sunless day. The twisted anomalies plaguing the skies have come to an end. Their reign amongst the stars concludes as the comet splits into five pieces; these five fall forth from the skies and unto the mortal plane. Massive tremors were felt all throughout the continent as two of these five entities made contact with the ground. The dust would settle eventually, letting any and all curious enough, perhaps even foolish, to discover whatever it was that decided to visit them. A tear in the fabric of reality emerges near one of these charred and warped sites. Like a crackling storm cloud, hundreds of figures pour down from from it akin to droplets of rain. Their hellish arms and armor glint in the unnatural light cast forth from their surroundings. Guttural war cries come from the maws of the unholy newcomers. They come prepared: prepared to march, prepared for war.
  3. I’m sorry but what even is astromancy.

  9. Hi all, So you’ve probably heard about the “Story Team merge” or something along those lines. What did that mean though? It meant the full joining of the team’s lore side and the event side. Recently we, as the Story Team, have been working toward such. Instead of solely focusing on either lore, events, or building, team members now have the freedom to work on multiple projects that touch each of those three areas without needing to ‘apply’ to a sect. What does that mean for applications though? We’ll be returning to a single application form instead of two separate forms for the former event sect and lore sect. You can find this form here. We’ll be starting interviews again in the next few days. If you’re interested in applying to the Story Team, we recommend you apply soon! What does this mean for those of you with applications up currently? You won’t need to remake a new application and you will be contacted about an interview. If you’d like to reapply using the new format, however, you’re welcome to do so. (If you have any doubts, questions, or concerns, feel free to message myself or the Story Team management.)
  10. Overview As of today, all alchemy lore contained under the accepted subforum will be tracked and moderated by the same application standards as magic and creature races, bar lore where alternatives to the system are explicitly written. This means that for the most part alchemy is categorised between two main types of app. The first, which has existed for some time already, is ‘further alchemy’ (FA) is used to denote an app for an individual area of lore that is specialised in some way, like animii crafting or affliction. The second, based on the new defunct ‘general further alchemy’ (GFA) system proposed in the past, is an umbrella feat application simply known as ‘alchemy’. An alchemy feat is required to perform all recipes not included in further alchemy lore or specified to use an alternative system. These alchemy feat applications and further alchemy applications will function independently of one another. Why is alchemy being app gated? So as to allow staff and players a more objective grasp on what knowledge is held by characters and what items characters can reasonably create based on IC knowledge as well as an OOC understanding of the lore. This also allows alchemy to be moderated and for misuse of lore to be better thwarted by a TA system dependant on teachers understanding and properly using alchemy lore, as well as room for blacklisting problem players from benefiting from alchemy (or using it as a loophole to avoid blanket ‘magic’ blacklists as has been done in the past) after cases of abuse. It is for these same reasons that magic - which originally was also without apps and based on an honour system - now depends on MAs and TAs. Who will be given an app? ‘Grandfathering’ is a term used to describe when a player is handed a lore application without going through the conventional means of being taught in the usual system. In the case of alchemy feats, from today until the 1st of July 2020 (after which point all new apps will require a teacher in the alchemy feat), the following will be able to post a ‘grandfathered’ app by completing the usual format for feat applications and linking one of the following under ‘teacher name’: -Accepted further alchemy applications for the character being grandfathered. -Outdated (though in their time accepted) further alchemy applications for the character being grandfathered (where the lore behind that application has been removed. NOTE: players whose applications are denied due to moderation will not be eligible for grandfathering). Outdated (though in their time accepted) homunculi applications where the character being grandfathered is listed as ‘creator’. Outdated (though in their time accepted) chimera applications where the character being grandfathered is listed as ‘creator’. Creators of alchemy lore that is currently accepted in the alchemy subforum. NOTE: only one app per piece. Players whose alchemy lore is accepted must also contact Mordu (discord: Mordu#6495) to ensure their lore is up to date and consistent with the new lore before posting applications. Creators of alchemy lore that is currently pending review, submitted before the 1st of June 2020, will also be offered the chance to be grandfathered if necessary (subject to their lore’s acceptance). New alchemy lore posted after this date will not warrant grandfathering in the same vein that writing a single spell would not usually warrant grandfathering into a school of magic. How does teaching now work? In current alchemy, a teacher application (TA) is required to spread the feat to new characters, as explained here. These can be posted four months following the acceptance of an alchemy feat application and will be accepted subject to a teacher interview just as with further alchemy teachers or teachers of magic lore. Special exceptions can also be made for quicker access to a TA for those meaning to spread new lore, subject to ST ruling. Alchemy’s skill levels are split into three tiers (down from the usual five that magic schools are split into) and the alchemy feat can be taught to up to five students at once (up from the usual three that magic schools are usually capped at) assuming that teacher isn’t also teaching a magic at that point where the usual student cap would be enforced. New recipes categorised as ‘rare’ must be obtained by an alchemist via roleplay instruction (such as from a teacher) and new recipes categorised as ‘common’ can be deduced by tier three alchemists with the product of that recipe in their possession using the ‘identification’ process. What if I don’t have an app? An alchemy application is not required to use botany nor the products of alchemy. The application is however essential to any meaning to carry out alchemical recipes and the alchemist in question behind these recipes will be held responsible for the misuse of their products where it is unclear OOC instruction or misinformation are found. Those attempting to create alchemical products without an application or the proper tier requirements for that product will be treated in the same manner as those trying to practice magic without an application or the proper tier requirements. Where can I apply/reapply? You can apply or reapply here.

  13. Velenius watched from atop a keep’s tower as the trio departed from the valley in which the keep stood. He’d only spoken to the fallen Dwarf mere hours before his departure. The man gave one last salute as the wagon faded into the distance. “Fare thee well. May you finally find rest.”

  15. The rewritten Botany featured here can now be obtained via roleplay. Being far more common and widespread than their mineral counterparts using nodes, plants requiring ST approval can now be gathered via appropriate roleplay anywhere in the world that they would naturally grow or could be farmed in accordance with the updated lore. This is simply done by storyreq describing what plant you mean to collect, following which a member of the loreteam will oversee your roleplay and provide you with a premade custom item to represent the gathered herb should the conditions be met for both locating and harvesting the plant. From this point on herbs described as requiring an approved item will need one to represent it for use in roleplay (as has been the standard for some time now, albeit enforced rather loosely) and plants in this category without ST approval or in an outdated format from before the premades will be deemed invalid for IC use. In light of the above, we are also offering a ‘herb amnesty’. Players with outdated MC items for their herbs that are story approved (such as those from the botany plugin) can make a storyreq to replace their outdated items with the updated premades, should said plants exist in the updated lore.
  16. Flora (relating to plants; herbs, fungi, flowers, trees et cetera) on LoTC have undergone a hard wipe as part of the loregames and the semi recent removal of our Botany plugin. Having spent some time assessing miscommunication about what plants we have available in roleplay, the way in which they’re used and understood by players versus lore and guidance as to how they should be handled, we have found that the key issue with most pre-loregames plants is that they are (for a variety of reasons) outdated and unsuitable for the modern climate. (The plant index and the wiki, for example). Going forward an up to date list of what plant lore is currently accepted will be kept here, along with further instruction on how these plants can be gathered for use in the coming weeks as part of the same node system we have recently deployed for lore minerals. As with minerals, a distinction can also be made in flora between ‘common’ flora (that which exists IRL) and ‘lore’ flora: In the case of the former, it is safe to assume that all naturally occuring flora from our real world can also be found and used in the same manner on LoTC, with the exception of plants containing any potent medicinal or poisonous effects greater than mild pain relief or stinging. For this we expect players to use common sense; if we have people for instance researching some incredibly vague prehistoric plant to then use as a superpoison in their roleplay there will be consequences. When in doubt, just ask us for guidance!. In the case of the latter, LoTC specific plants not presently accepted in the Flora subforum are to be considered outdated and denied and in need of a rewrite using the new format. This can be found here. Edit: Flora used for cultural and recreational use such as pipeweed and cactus green are still allowed, no combative or medicinal uses though.
