Frenzied squeaks of a small mouse echoed through the trees as she skittered across the forest floor, a warbled imitation of her cries weaving through the shadows behind her. No matter where she tried to hide, the repetition followed. The poor thing knew she had not much more to give; her short legs sought to betray her as they fought harder and harder for some respite. Such a small body could only fit so much strength compared to her unrelenting pursuer, and so all she could do was close her eyes as it ran dry. No noise came from the mouse now apart from her breathing, lungs hungry for air she struggled to find. Her stolen shrieks surrounded her as she awaited the inevitable. Spindly fingers slowly wrapped around her, as if they knew they could take their time. Something sharp threatened to pierce her side, then… Pain. She felt pain, but the helpless little thing would not suffer alone on this day. All that lived in this forest was swept over by the wave of a great loss that continued on to lands the mouse would never see. This sorrow, as swiftly as it came, blossomed into an irresistible feeling of joy. How could the happiest moment in her life to be at death's door? This was not a moment to die, and so the astute mouse took this opportunity to flee into the shrubs. She did not question the absence of pursuit behind her. 𓍊𓋼𓍊𓋼𓍊 The Fleshgait stood motionless as it watched its prey scurry off, its attention fully robbed by the glee that lingered in the air. It knew what this was; it knew well what had happened. Having spent so much time imitating behaviors from those of this realm, crying almost came natural. But this did not call for sorrow. The wilds, who would have cried for any other, instead celebrated aloud for even the tainted to hear. It was only this faerie's duty to do the same. What a wonderful day.

The compatibility was not added in the rewrite because there was a fear that many of the new things would lead to a denial, so there was a bit of holding back just in case, but now that we're past that this is a good change! Alchemy fits quite nicely with the sprite themes: curiosity, trading, whimsy, etc. A lot of the more niche alchemical creations would be perfect for sprite RP, like lens treated with Alchemist Sugar or sneakily planted Lady Bean's Legumes. This could lead to some interesting roleplay interactions, since even if they go down the very common "produce potions to sell" route they'd have to be more creative with it since sprites fail to recognize mina as things with real value. The limitations are all perfect as well, so I think you covered all the bases with it!

[Amendment] Sprite Anatomy Clarification
Fleur___ replied to Fleur___'s topic in Recently Outdated Lore
thank you for the support! you're always there when i need it <3 -
Purpose There was a discussion in the ST discord about what exactly "humanoid" means when it comes to the limitations on Sprite anatomy. There was a lot of confusion and no one seemed to be 100% certain on their interpretation of the wording in the lore. This is definitely not what should be happening, so I intend to make it clear what our intent was behind the mentions of "humanoid" form or shape. The redline is a bit long, but I feel like it's necessary to convey the message in a way where it's interpreted the way it should be. The concept of Sprites/Faeries here is very different from earlier iterations of the lore. Given that Sprites design and create their own physical bodies, we purposefully expanded their design possibilities greatly. The "humanoid shape" is meant to keep them all within a certain range, but they are not meant to look like humans (or each other for the most part). There can be sprites that have beaks and feathered bodies like a bird, or ones that are scaled with long and tailed bodies like a lizard. The image in the Physiology section of the lore is a good example of how removed they can be from looking like the stereotypical fairy while also fitting the criteria. They are supposed to represent the full range of natural life. Old Redlines New Redlines

Purpose I hadn’t gotten the chance to use this ability as much as I’ve done recently, so I’ve only now realized how deeply confusing it is all around. I suppose while tweaking it for the rewrite, a couple of parts from slightly different versions slipped by us and ended up forming a confusing (and self-contradictory at times) explanation. Now that I’ve had proper hands-on experience with using it in roleplay, a lot of ideas came to mind on how to make it a more interesting interaction for both the sprite and the promise-partner. I also felt like the normal way of casting did not enable the extent of trickery that I intended for the ability and CA as a whole, so I wanted to add a way for them to truly cheat people into a promise. My hope is to foster a fear of sorts in characters that interact with sprites, making them wary of what they say. To have them warn others of the danger of words around fae in the same nature as how I’ve seen some older characters talk about sprites invading minds (from interactions with older versions of their lore). I’ve heard there have been issues with things not needing IRP consent before in other lore pieces, but I figured the mechanics and punishment limitations do not really allow for truly consequential abuse (especially with the relatively short duration of effects and disallowing of severe harm). Current "Sow Fallacy" spell redlines Suggested change Purpose The most recent Sprite rewrite gave the fae CA a lesser soul, so I figured it would make sense to remove this outdated mention of them in the Sow Fallacy redlines. Not a groundbreaking change, but a small opening in RP opportunities that might be of use to one of like 4 sprite players. Might make another amendment eventually to open up the feat to them too, though that is unlikely to ever be used to be honest.

[✗] [Race Lore & CA ] Echidna & The Nargrum Ki
Fleur___ replied to Echo_42069's topic in Denied Lore
the CA would probably benefit from having its own, more fleshed out, page. this reads more like a d&d race sheet, except it doesn't describe properly any abilities the CA may have. the concept is quite interesting and it would be nice to have a playable aquatic creature, but with what is currently here there's not that many tools given to enable roleplay like other CA lore. a CA like this should not be "descendant but fish". other random thoughts: - unless i'm missing some piece of deeplore, there is no way they would have anything above a lesser soul unless they were once descendants and got turned into something else, in which case you would have to find a lore explanation on how that happened. - the out of water time limit feels a bit unnecessary given it can be ignored 99% by just saying they went into a pond off-screen before the player logged on. if there's gonna be a reliance on water, it should be less of a mechanical limitation and more of a tool for roleplay. maybe instead of needing to go into water every certain amount of hours, they simply grow wrinkled and grow old aesthetically until they wet their skin again. maybe the lack of moisture causes them to act in a more animalistic matter, with emotional outbursts much harder to contain. something more than just "oh gotta roleplay jumping into a pool cause a redline says so". - not sure if there's another lore piece that already takes ownership over the control/affinity to the real element of water, but you could somehow incorporate that into this CA to make it stand out. obviously not to the level of water evocation.... but something small, like creating patterns in the water or perhaps something with bubbles?- 27 replies

Suggested changes to the "Promise of the Pixie" ability within the Sprite CA lore Old Promise of the Pixie tenets New tenets Old Promise of the Pixie redlines New redlines Purpose I think not being able to make promises including violence or death is a silly restriction looking back on it. Considering how sprites often have very foreign concepts of morality, it doesn't really make sense for them to be a monolith against the concept of hurting people through their deal-making. It would be a valid rule for a more powerful ability with abusable benefits or significant consequences, but that is not the case here. Both parties have to agree to the promise OOCly and IRPly, with only a short-lived inconvenience as a punishment for not following through. The ability is barely more than a pinky promise. A big part of this ability is playing around with how the sprite perceives the terms of the promise in fun and creative ways to perhaps confuse the other party (in roleplay) into triggering a punishment. There could be some good roleplay coming out of these types of extreme promises. As long as the sprite views the target of a violent or deadly promise as a threat, then they should be free to make said promise.

this shit changed my life i think. one of my favorite movies of all time. i have never cried more to a movie but it also left me feeling good and hopeful after it ended. very interesting rollercoaster of emotions. alex g did a really good job with the score. these three trans women have blessed my ears with their music, love them and their art greatly. idk if it's the estrogen or what but trans women always stand out when it comes to music cause they're always making bangers. honorable mention to this song..... about a queer person and their father who cuts contact with them after seeing their true colors, only for him reconsider his decision just before finding out his child died with no one by their side from AIDS. very sad song but also very catchy LOL

[✓] [Creature Lore] - Fairies
Fleur___ replied to Unwillingly's topic in Non-Playable Creatures/Event Creatures
i like this a lot! it's always nice to have more fae lore to use. doesn't conflict with sprites like i thought it would when i saw the title, they just overlap a lot when it comes to how they look. that isn't necessarily a bad thing tho since i imagine that happens often in the fae realm. if the need arises they could just be explained as lesser fae cousins given how they share a handful of the CA's base traits while being much more simple in nature (like they did with Elusive Effigies https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/topic/216275-✓-world-lore-fantasy-flora-take-2/#comment-1945046 ) -

[✗] [Magic Lore] Seers - the Cozeners of Vaasek
Fleur___ replied to Pallodium's topic in Denied Lore
Oh yeah I agree that current guises are a bit clunky in the way they're written. I meant more that the guises in the current write are a lot easier to create compared to this new version where they're locked behind a ritual that requires two other 2-slot Seers (plus the creation of a shrine in the first place). Yeah.... I remembered Caecic is perfect for that a bit after I replied to the post LOL disregard #7 -
[✗] [Magic Lore] Seers - the Cozeners of Vaasek
Fleur___ replied to Pallodium's topic in Denied Lore
This all looks very nice and is a lot easier to digest, which was one of my biggest issues with the current write. I have a good handful of questions and/or general curiosities regarding some changes made! 1. The Ocular version of Eyebite was buffed in a way from what I understand, with the removal of the 1 emote "arrow" dodge window, so I understand the addition of a bane for the Seer when using it. However, the Contact version remains the same, forcing the Seer to risk themselves by getting really close to their target. Would it not make more sense for the Seer to lose their sight only when using the Ocular version? I might be missing something, but I don't see how Contact is better than Ocular in any possible situation if it blinds you the same. 2. Why was a block limit added to Dreamstride? It limits its interesting and creative uses greatly in my opinion. Granting people dreams from far away (as long as you know their face/name) seems rather insignificant, especially since the cultivation of sown individuals with said dreams was removed. Easier spamming is the only real issue I can think of with the lack of a block range, but that can easily be fixed with the addition of a separate cooldown on individuals after they receive a dream from a Seer (though I doubt even this would be a problem in the first place). 3. I'm a bit confused on the wording in Hands of the Beyond. When making an item invisible, is that the only item you can carry with the spell until it loses the invisibility? Or can you carry other visible items along with it as long as it follows the weight/amount rules? If you can only carry the one invisible item, what was the reasoning behind this limitation? 4. Not sure if it was an oversight or an intentional removal (or if I just missed it), but I noticed something was left out of the Veil in Lies spell. In the current write if an individual happens to be sown by a Seer, and the same Seer uses Veil in Lies, then the individual is unable to spot the Seer even if they are within 1 block of them or move faster than 3 blocks per emote. Not too important overall, but just an interesting aspect of the spell that I noticed has been changed. 5. I can see why shrines were changed to be more of a group project since that is the core theme of the magic essentially, but what was the reasoning behind guises also being locked behind three 2-slot Seers? I personally see more appeal in the system in the current write, where there is more freedom in the creation of a guise but also more consequences to them (becoming trapped in the guise, which appears to have been removed). 6. When referring to "switching personas" in Ritual of identity, does it mean switching to the guise or switching between the guise and their true appearance? (Would the 3 uses per OOC week be: Switch to guise->Switch back->Switch to guise OR Switch to guise->Switch to guise->Switch to guise). I assume it's the latter, but I wanted to make sure since the wording could mean either. (Also, in the 3rd redline I'm pretty sure the first CA is supposed to be ST instead) 7. I had a worry come to mind while writing all this. How would Seers ever find other Seers without being able to recognize each other? They are bound to keep their powers secret, with the threat being disconnection from the whole magic, so how could a Seer reach out to another regarding Seer matters without knowing for sure they are safe to do so? Only way I can think of is seeing another Seer cast Seer spells, but even this is iffy with the myriad of possible tells. -
The darkened sky was a frightening sight. Crimson light swept across every other hue in the Norlandic city. A sure sign of disaster to come. Inés took haste in boarding up every window and door in her house to ensure her home would not be corrupted by that horrid red moon. She was fortunate that her home was essentially a greenhouse, with a wide variety of plants that produced enough food to keep her alive. But there was only so much the dryad could do to replace the energy that she had otherwise gotten from the sun. Her fingers grew knots, her skin wrinkled, her back hunched over. This body was going to die, like it had twice before. This time, however, the process was much faster. Her body almost looked like it was in the starting stages of decomposition, visibly aging at an alarming rate. Her sight went first, leaving her in total darkness. At first, it was mostly an annoyance. She had gone through this before, so she knew well it was never easy. Her clay creations helped her get around, keeping the house in order now that she was no longer able to herself. Inés was doing fairly good, all things considered. Then her mind started to fail her. It began with small things, like forgetting a word or sudden mood swings. Her condition rapidly deteriorated after that, plunging her into a deep well of paranoia and despair. She had no contact with the outside world, no way of knowing that the crimson night was no more. Inés was terrified of what she might find if she ventured out. The woman spent her days praying, pleading for the great spirits to have mercy. To save her from this nightmare. Every night she waited for a response, for any possible sign that her cries had an audience with the gods. She begged again, and again, and again until her voice was added to the growing list of things she had lost.

the day more emote colors get added is the day i can die happy. it would be really cool if emote colors were saved to each persona slot, but idk if that's possible or not.
