  1. Urguan I, a mighty dwarf clad in a full suit of black armor, would stand before the square of the capitol on a podium, his guards standing at arms next to him. "Dear Fellow Dwed, I, Urguan I, come to ye today wid a heavy ‘eart an’ a burning rage in me soul. I ‘ave seen da ‘orrors ov Canonism firsthand, an’ I can nay bear da thought ov any ov me kin sufferin’ at da ‘ands ov dese false gods an’ dair twisted followers. Only yesterday, da Canonist Inquisition wrongly slaughtered a group ov our kin, da innocent children ov our race, whom dey thought to be vampires. Can ye even fathom da cruelty ov such a deed? Can ye imagine da pain an’ anguish ov da parents who lost dere beloved offspring to da fanaticism ov da Canonists? No, dere is no end to da chaos. No end to da sufferin’. No end to da destruction wrought by Canonism. It is time fer us to take a stand, to let da light ov Yemekar guide us to peace an’ holiness. Yemekar ‘as spoken wid me personally, an’ ‘e ‘as called upon us to destroy da Canonist Church once an’ fer all. ‘E will save us, if only we can eradicate Canonism completely from dis land. I call upon ye, me fellow dwarves, to join me in dis righteous cause. Togeda, let us take up arms an’ fight fer our kin, fer our race, an’ fer da god we serve. Tolerant we will no longer be. No longer will we stand fer da radicalism ov Canonist humans. Deir time is up. Dey must be destroyed. Join me in me organization, da Black ‘And, da ‘and ov Yemekar who will destroy all enemies ov Urguan. Togeda, let us rise up an’ claim our rightful place in dis world, free ov da shackles ov Canonism an’ oppression. Yours in faith, Urguan I" A separate flyer would be distributed throughout the land to those far and wide, and all those who may have a hatred for canonism in their hearts. "Attention, noble races! Do you feel the weight of Canonist oppression bearing down upon you? Do you tire of living under the rule of false gods and their cruel followers? Then it is time to take action! Join us, the Black Hand, in our mission to rid the land of the Canonist plague. Led by the fierce and devout Urguan I, we stand united in our fight for justice and freedom. With Yemekar as our guide, we will strike fear into the hearts of the Canonists and show them that they are not welcome in our lands. No longer will we stand by and allow them to oppress and deceive our people. If you are ready to join the fight and make a stand against the Canonist threat, then contact us and become a member of the Black Hand. Together, we can bring an end to this dark chapter in our history and forge a brighter future for all. Join us, and let the light of Yemekar guide us to victory!"
  2. ON DWED AND HUMANITY A dwarf stands on a wooden platform in the square of Urguan, clad in a rather old full-body suit of legion armor adorned with orange. If one looked closely, a slight glow could be seen emanating from his helmet near his left eye. "My fellow Dwed, the time has come. Too long have we allowed the wretched to sow seeds of fear in our people. Too long has this world discriminated against us, and for what, as a reward for our ingenuity? For our great feats of engineering, magic, and science? They discriminate against us because they fear the power we wield. They discriminate against us because of our Kingdom's unwavering strength and history." The dwarf takes the time to look around him and meet eyes with all surrounding him, raising his arms "So if it is us they fear, if it is us who they attack, then what good is it to play anything but the role they have chosen for us? It is ignorant to ignore the looming threat against Dwedkind posed by Humanity, and in fact, by all other races." The crowd nods and mumbles at the stark and thought provoking speech given by the Dwarf. The hustle and bustle of the markets seem to stop momentarily as if he has grabbed the attention of all in earshot. "It is time for us as not only Dwed but as global citizens to restore justice and order to the world. I, Verrik Blackaxe, declare myself Urguan I, the true prophet of the Brathmordakiin. It is simple; death to all heretics, death to all those who oppose our divine judgement. Humanity has stricken us for far too long with illness, war, and slander -- the Brathmordakiin have spoken. Death to the Unholy Orenian Empire, that which plagues the earth. Only then will justice flow once more throughout the roots of this land." As the address comes to an end, two guards dressed in similar armor escort Urguan I from the platform into the veil of the crowd. Within moments, it appears he has left the square.

  5. Hello, fellow Lord of the Craft users. I am writing this post to address a certain attitude I see that many LoTC users hold -- and I've been arguing with them about it since 2013. There seems to be a misconception that mechanical actions, or anything that takes place within the game of Minecraft, is not "roleplay". This is a serious roleplay server -- therefore, the actions you take within the game are what your character is actually doing. There is not a magical divider between the game and "roleplay". If you are fighting someone with PvP, that is roleplay -- some will try to argue against this, because they are stuck in their ways, but especially in the Orcish nation PvP fights have determined several nation leaders and settled disputes. Every war on this server is mostly fought with PvP; how are events that change the history of the server, create countless new governments, and alter the entire structure of nations on the server not roleplay? I ask you this: if mechanical actions are considered as mostly "not roleplay" or lesser than text RP, then why host LoTC on Minecraft rather than something like IRC, or a platform more suited to text RP? This is a Minecraft server before anything else, so I think y'all should consider that when you're arguing about "roleplay". Anyhow, that's not even the main point. Another problem I see is how server changes, plugins, and systems "affect roleplay", or "inhibit roleplay". For example, today I saw someone argue that Hiebe's mina/bank changes affects someones ability to roleplay in a negative way, because they have to grind for mina or something to keep their nation alive. Well, besides the fact that I think that the new changes actually will lead to more roleplay opportunities, I think it's important to address the fact that this is a SERIOUS roleplay server. This isn't medium or light RP -- this is SERIOUS roleplay, and with that comes the fact that there's very little handwaving in terms of pretty much everything. Yes, your nation SHOULD be sustaining itself, producing food for its citizens, and everything that comes with being a nation. I see countless characters that are farmers for their nation, miners for their nation, or warriors for their nation, and they all do plenty of roleplay whilst contributing simultaneously. For people who argue about the server prioritizing roleplay constantly, these users seem to be against things that actually expand roleplay opportunities and create roles for individuals to fill. This brings me to my next point, which is the unfortunate "Tavern RP complex" that I see with many of these players. They will use the "that inhibits roleplay" or "that's not RP" or a plethora of other arguments, but the fact of the matter is that's a guise for "I don't want to actually roleplay the full extent of my character, or the full extent of my nation. I want to sit in a tavern or area of the city with my friends and engage in text RP with them throughout the day." That's perfectly fine -- I have nothing against these players, and they bolster activities in nations. However, the problem here is that these players want everything to be catered to their specific type of RP, and if it isn't they start getting vocal. These players are against most conflict RP on the server, and tend to want things to remain peaceful as to not interrupt the status quo. These players get mad if they have to do anything other than sit in the tavern or whatever they're doing -- they don't want to participate in the active & dynamic roleplay universe that is Lord of The Craft. They want to participate in their own RP universe driven by personal relationships and drama, but would rather take a massive step away from anything outside of that. These players also tend to be the players who handwave the most so they can continue doing the type of RP they prefer, but this leads them to getting mad when people can actually get a benefit from doing activities they usually handwave. For example, Vortex. If a player can get an advantage by actually roleplaying what their characters profession is, and actually putting work into making items or mining or whatever it may be -- these players get extremely mad. Why? Because they don't want to do that, but they still want their character to be supposedly skilled in several things, when they in fact don't roleplay training or doing things that are inherent to their character. This is problematic to me mainly because Lord of The Craft, at it's heart, is a giant immersive universe where players should be able to influence and affect the server by their own initiative and will. I mean, come on, the servers hook literally is Build your own nation, learn and cast powerful magics - Become a King, an Emperor, a Wizard, or a Warrior. Your path is your own, what will you choose?". The "Tavern RP complex" leads to these individuals trying to inhibit dynamic roleplay in favor of their static roleplay if they perceive anything that might force them to do anything but engage in it. The fact of the matter is, most dynamic roleplay or server plugins will not have a huge affect on most of these individuals. In that case, why does it seem like conflict rules and other systems tend to cater or heavily consider these users when they in reality will not be the main participants or actors? Those with a "Tavern RP complex" tend to be against any mechanical systems, or anything outside of Text RP, because the type of roleplay they engage in is primarily through text and nothing else. However, these users are the ones who tend to participate in the actual game the least, so why are they considered so much in these systems? Just food for thought. I'm not saying these players don't matter, either. They definitely do, and I'd actually say they're critical to the longetivity of the server. However, these players shouldn't have an influence on systems they don't want to participate in. If anything, these players should have systems and rules that allow them to avoid conflict or mechanics or whatever they want so they can continue to do their preferred form of roleplay in peace. It's not necessary to make restrictive conflict rules to please these players; it's necessary to add a few lines that allow them to avoid it. It's not necessary to refrain from using mechanical systems heavily on the server; it's necessary to make an alternative for these players or some concession so they perceive less of a threat to their preferred roleplay. If the server took an approach more similar to this, I think both sides would be more satisfied than they are currently. Polarization leads to hatred between the two ideologies of LoTC users, and that deters cooperation. In reality, if the server and its users took a cooperative approach, conflict and mechanics could coexist with other forms of roleplay and preferred playstyles. Unfortunately, what we see is based on who's an admin, or who's a team leader, they tend to morph everything to their chosen ideology instead of considering all players. There is compromise possible, we just need to all put aside our differences and stop being such purists or roleplay crusaders to make the server more hospitable for everyone. That's just my opinion, but I think I made some very valid points. I love tavern RPers and LoTC pvp fiends all the same, we just need to work together.
  6. Hey guys, you may or not know me as one of the most infamous and banned players from LoTC (and most other communities i've ever played in for a prolonged period of time.). Currently, I am: recently banned and still banned. What's up! This post might be a lot to handle but the important parts are greenly obvious. You may or may not know I struggle from serious mental health issues. I have severe ADHD and stemming from that pretty bad depression and anxiety. That has honestly led to, well, a majority of my life's problems. Struggling with my mental health/everything else is honestly a lot, and it sometimes leads to me lashing out. Not necessarily like, "I'm mad and want to go crazy", but literally just "I don't have a schema to process this appropriately, i don't feel good (in general or about something), x will be entertaining or funny or will make me feel better so lets do it". Surprisingly (or unsurprisingly), most of my bans have related to me fighting/flaming staff members, and the aftermath that ensues while I'm banned which is usually me causing chaos. Not gonna lie, that sucks! But, I'm working on it! Sorry if I've caused you any trouble. If I got diagnosed and began treatment sooner, things may have turned out very differently. Now, why did this lead to a lot of my life's problems? Because I didn't know I had ADHD, or really that any of my mental health issues were clinical. Everyone wants to be normal, so did I, and I assumed that I was just weird/this is how it was. When in reality, there is a huge mental health crisis and hella people out here struggling on a daily basis. For example, I literally cannot focus on any task unless I'm already heavily into it / low barrier to entry, otherwise I can barely even start tasks. My anxiety stopped me from talking people I wanted to talk to. With my depression, I couldn't find motivation to do anything but that's related to having trouble starting tasks/focusing. I didn't fit the stereotype of ADHD, aka being super hyperactive, (I'm much more of the inattentive type). If what's going on with you dead ass matches up with depression, anxiety, any mental illness at all I encourage you to seek professional help, if you are not okay with the person you are or you want to improve certain aspects of your life. It took me 20 long years to figure out that I actually have a serious problem. If it's affecting your daily life in a significant way, (i.e you literally can't do things you want to do), I encourage you to seek help if you believe that's in your best interest. The mental health process in the U.S is extremely complex, and difficult to navigate, so I am going to illustrate to you what this may be like to alleviate some of your potential worries. First, you need to schedule a visit with your regular doctor, or any general doctor. You should tell them what your experiencing, that you may have psychiatric issues/mental issues/a mental illness, and that you would like to be referred to a psychiatrist. They will then hopefully guide you through the next steps in the process, and who evaluates you may vary based on your instiution, but you will be evaluated for mental illness. Then, they will probably refer you to therapy if you think you need it, and based on your diagnosis, your psychiatrist may prescribe you medication if that is a perceived solution. You will definitely have to advocate for yourself through this process and make sure you're getting the right help, the right medication, etc, but it's well worth it if you want to personally develop and work on yourself. The most important step is step 1 -- just doing it! If you're under 18 obviously you will have to talk to your parents to schedule the appointment, which is anxiety-inducing in it's own right, but if you want to, do it! It really is just taking that first step, the rest of it is riding the boat that is the medical process. If you cannot afford going to a doctor after researching it (it probably isn't actually as expensive as you think!), then I would examine free mental health resources in your area and online. If you have been through childhood trauma (Not going to discuss my issues regarding this on a public forum, but trust me i've been there!) or in fact any trauma I encourage you to also seek therapy if you feel like that would be helpful to you. Your issues should not be ignored, and if you want to sort through them, this is probably a good option for you. Therapists may not always be amazing, but you can always switch to a new one! I'm a little weary of sharing my struggles on such a public forum but I think it's really important for me to share because a.) I am struggling, and have struggled with mental illness. b.) You're not really weird for having mental illness, or for seeking help, it's more usual than society makes it out to be! and c.) Maybe you actually have a problem that can be fixed through either medication, therapy, or a combo of both. Being aware that you might have a treatable condition is honestly so important, just think about it. People can go into their 40s, and elder years and just realize they have a mental illness or a problem (that'd be painful!). Honestly guys, just look out for yourselves and those around you. You aren't alone. Everyone else around you is struggling with their own issues, and in the grand terms of the human experience that we share, so are you! If the way you're struggling is your mental health, anxiety, depression, ADHD, whatever it may be, I hope this post has been helpful to you in some way. Some people stigmatize mental health and treatment in general but trust me, your problems are clearly very real if they're affecting your day to day life. I leave you with this. I wish I could link more but honestly, there's so much resources out there that it'd be better for you to google your specific struggles and issues. https://adhdawarenessmonth.org/questions-and-answers/
  7. LORE PROPOSITION - TINFOIL ARMOR A Harian Tinfoil Warrior, Circa 1600 In a world where magic runs rampant alongside the growth of an ever present aura of paranoia, it is of the utmost importance to defend oneself against mind probing huns. Innocent men and women are becoming deceived by such vile magicians, leading them to believe that they are the opposite gender if not already resulting from their pineapple illatian pastries. Tales of such illusory and probing have spread far and wide, and thus the demand for magic resistant armor is high. As a result, smiths across the land, most notably Haskill of the Freeman’s forge, have taken to pressing melted tin to a papyrus thin state so that it may be molded with ease. With this invention, denizens across the lands may sleep in peace- and in tin, to ensure that their internal viscera is not morphed to that of a bestial creature. Tin foil equipment will allow the user to deflect magical influence and attacks without flaw depending on its crumpled state. Akin to sound proofing, the more crevices and bumps a piece of tin armor holds the more resistant to magic it is. For example, a smooth sheet of tin would be useless to magic whereas its crumpled counterpart would be impervious. Despite its extreme defense to magic, it's delicate and thin state makes it quite useless against any other form of attack. To provide balance to magic users, quite literally anything (bar magic) can destroy this armor. Arrows can pierce it, fingers can poke it, and more importantly, one could rip it by simply walking. Despite its detriments, however, tinfoil armor remains the go-to headwear for those fearing illusionists. Waldenian Soundproofing, circa 1364 To craft Tinfoil Armor, one must gather tin through roleplay means, melt it, and then press it into its thin state. Once this is accomplished, one must then carefully craft it through roleplay means. Should you roll anything less than a twenty in its careful construction, the armor will be torn. Once in combat, should the armor be damaged or torn, the exposed area would then become vulnerable to magical attacks once more. Mechanically speaking, it may be possible to statgen base chainmail to have hugely negative defensive debuffs (practically none) with its durability also being modified to be destroyed within two hits. Furthermore, due to its light nature, if a mechanical armor set were to be created it would hold no speed debuffs. The way one would determine whether someone was wearing tinfoil armor or not is purely dependent on their skin, which should look something along the lines of: Should this lore be accepted, I believe it will add an additional level of role-play not yet seen on any medieval fantasy server. This document is purely science based, and now that the current year is 1600, a time in which pirates roam, the need for tinfoil equipment is necessary. However, should this lore not be accepted, I truly believe people will still craft such equipment through roleplay means even if it woiuld not provide the additional magical protection as they would hold the belief that it truly does. I have kept this short and sweet, like an innocent child, for I believe I've nailed my points across rather effectively. For those who are too lazy to read, I shall summarize in a tl;dr. Tin Foil Armor should be magic resistant depending on its crumpled state (coating your armor in tin will not do anything unless it is pure tin!). Tinfoil headgear should prevent illusion magic and mind probing from affecting the wearer. To craft a single piece of armor, or the tinfoil itself, smiths must roll a perfect 20/20 in role-play to provide validity to the tin foil's stability. Tin Foil armor has no durability nor defensive buffs to ranged or melee.
  8. I petition we remove OOC interactions on the forums entirely or minimize them. Kill the infamous idea section and replace it with a suggestion box (besides lore), the "Your View" and "Feedback" section, lock all news posts so no argument happens. Remove statuses and privatize ban reports. Make the admin's word be final, get rid of this cocky ass idea that any player can change the server by arguing pointlessly on the forums. We should have a forum so that bans can be resolved, apps finished, and RP done in a place where it is easy to access. We have a forum which is just a massive ground for bitching endlessly and shitting on other people's RP. This is a goddamn role-play server, I don't understand why we're bogged down by an ocean of micropolitical drivel. Edit uno: I'm not really talking about off-topic per se, because that's friendly and fully OOC. But hostile OOC just bleeds onto the server and makes things unfun. (I can make this slightly more tame if you'd like, pls tell if offended)
