Annae123 0 Share Posted November 23, 2013 I have mixed feelings about this I like the idea that magic is much more accessible but I think that people will go crazy with it. A possible alternative would maybe be that self taught mages had to fill out applications or at least be overseen to avoid power gaming and advancement in the specific magic much too quickly. With a teacher you are regulated and advised as best they can and are taught slowly, the idea that you have to work for magic was much more appealing. When one finally gained that their 4 or 5 magic, it would be extremely exciting. You had to work months upon months to gain a high level of magic, it showed who really wanted it and who just wanted its power with no obstacles, when you worked for it you were much less likely to power game due to the fact that you spent a long time gaining it and would not want to lose it. I see this as becoming a thing where one person learns magic and teaches all his/her buddies how to use it. But that is just my two cents, we all have our different opinions and the best way to decide what happens is to let it play out.
Friendly Guy 223 Share Posted November 23, 2013 Additionally hasn't a magic plugin been COMING SOON for about a year and a half, now? Coming soon, Is a registered trademark of lotc please do not use said word without signed consent from its Owners. AKA Yes your correct but apparently telanir is working on it now. the GOAT of the craft 606 Share Posted November 23, 2013 good move. everyone complaining seems to have not been here in aegis and doesn't know how successful it was. it might be a bit mad for the first month but it will calm down then. even if it is mad, it shows that there should never have been a magic team and this is what happens when the staff come to their senses. ~ Fiend ~ 611 Share Posted November 23, 2013 Oh. my. god. You mean I can have magic I've been RPly practicing for over a year IRL without having to apply for it on the forums? You mean I have the freedom to provide fun RP on my non-event characters? I LOVE ALL OF YOU. On a different note to those annoyed about people powergaming having magic, I'll compare it to swordsmanship. The people who choose to go through teaching RP or enjoy that will undoubtedly be better than those who don't. Back to your regularly scheduled qqing.

Sporadic 2844 Share Posted November 23, 2013 Additionally hasn't a magic plugin been COMING SOON for about a year and a half, now? No. No it hasn't. The first magic plugin was promised by Vaq about ~2 years ago, and has little to do with the project Telanir is currently working on. He did not start working on it 18 months ago, either. There was also MagicSpells for the longest time, but it was never released to the public. I see /a lot/ of people saying that all mages are complaining, and simply laughing about it. Though, isn't this a portion of the server which feels like they are being screwed over? That's a very disgusting thing to see. Why don't we remove VATs while we are at it? Hear hear. Not agreeing with the tone of this post, but I would've enjoyed very much to see the part of the community that this change does NOT affect to not pile mockingly on the part that it has affected severely. Of course, it's just a few people that are doing this, but I would advise these few people to be a bit more gracious. It is like this as it is with PvP default: Some people are disliking this update; there is no reason to make it personal.
Cyndikate 2303 Share Posted November 23, 2013 Remember Asulon guys. If you don't have proof of being taught magic, you're just nothing but smoke and mirrors. Let's bring that back.

JunoStriker 69 Share Posted November 23, 2013 Why are we all assuming that this will be heavily abused or skewered by the community? Have a little faith in your friends. We're all (well, not all) mature people, and I'm sure that we aren't going to take advantage of this rule change for evil intent. Not all of us are dicks. Very few of us are dicks. So stop pointing at the few dicks and okay I think I lost my point somewhere in the last few sentences.
Smithers 388 Share Posted November 23, 2013 Oh, goodness... The update itself would have been a good one, but perhaps only under different circumstances. The removal of lore restrictions such as these is brilliant for the roleplay value and potential creativity that it provides, but I'm not sure if the community is ready for that just yet. We'll soon see.
Kardel 1054 Share Posted November 23, 2013 Those against this, it's worth a shot. If it fails, we can always bring back the MA. Yeah, give it a chance. Even though I am against this, I do agree to see how this goes and if it becomes a train-wreck or a smooth journey through magic. If somebody Rp's magic way out of their realistic tier, lest them be devoured by the ban-beast. And if you don't like magic becoming abundant in IC, form a cult that thinks only a select group of people can learn magic, and that this cult kills anyone who they deem unworthy of magic. Don't ignore the new magic rp though, just cope with it. I don't see this ending well. .but LotC has made a lot of things work when they seemed like disasters waiting to happen. Lets see how this turns out.
