Nominations for a Grand Merchant

Grand King Indago Stormhammer rises from his throne, entering the halls, looking around at his citizens.  He posts something on the notice board than clears his throat, announcing to those around him.

Brothers, after the absence of the Grand Merchant, Thrognar Grandaxe, a new Grand Merchant is needed to fill in the hole.  We will be taking nominations to those who wish to carry on the work, to bring wealth to the city.  Elections shall begin shortly.

RP Name: Fili Grandaxe

Age: 304

Reasons: Our economy is at a stand still. Once this war is over I plan to increase trade with other nations when the roads are clear. I will lower taxes, but actually collect them, clearing housing, and allowing people to actually live in a house, not a spot in the barracks. I also wish to create storage vaults in the kingdom, so dwarves can have places to store their items, besides their small, cluttered, homes.

RP Name: Dul'Ulkirk Hammerfall

Age: 583

Reasons: The economy is barely thriving at all. Trade and constant flow of currency is quite a desirable thing. The plan would be to lower taxes from the inside and simply work on quota-type deals with a high return rate for what's being exported. Goods and services will become cheaper. The vault will grow and trade missions shall be accomplished. The richer the nation, the better.

Reasons: Trade is absolutely the lifeblood for any kingdom, and the Grand Kingdom of Urguan has been lacking the wealth it needs. I expect that I will be one of the younger nominees, but with my youth I bring new ideas that are sure to bring minas to our kingdom. Firstly, taxes will be lowered. Secondly, I will personally organize and catalog every shop and home in Kal'Ithrun so the government can more easily collect taxes. The prices of other nations' goods and resources will be kept track of so Urguan's prices will always match theirs. I will invest in various trade guilds that I believe will have a rich future. Most importantly, I hope to establish a system of patents to give citizens the credit they deserve for their inventions.

Reasons: I once held this position and retired from it's graces so that I could enjoy life. And as I saw that Grand Merchant after Grand Merchant were being removed, I attempted to run again, only to be told that slander prevented me from doing so. With said slander revoked and dealt with, I stand here for the last time. Should I not be elected, I shall take my knowledge of finances elsewhere to personal endeavors. Good day.

                                                 RP Name:

                                                 Aldal Ireheart

                                                    Age:

                                                                               312

                                                 Reason:

I apply for the position of Grand Merchant not as an expert in the field, but as a dwarf who cares deeply for our Kingdom and her people. Our economy sleeps, but it can be revived. I hope to be the cock's crow to waken our finances. To once again make Urguan a nation of trade, at the forefront of Anthos as a booming economy.

The first job that I would undertake as Grand Merchant would be to employ several financial experts as tax-collectors ((One person for every main time-zone, so you would always have someone online to pay your taxes to)). For too long our people have been evicted from their homes because of the unacceptable level of work that previous Grand Merchants have been doing. With tax-collectors in place, there would always be someone in the city available to pay your taxes to.

Secondly, and in what I am sure will be considered a controversial move, I will increase taxation. However, I would also increase the amount of time given to our citizens to pay their taxes. Taxation would be increased to 250 minas every two elven weeks, with one elven week to pay them. This would be the charge for the homes in the city. Taxation on shops and businesses would remain at 150 minas with the same time-frame available to pay them as houses. This would encourage people to establish businesses in our city, increasing the profit the Grand Kingdom of Urguan takes in. The longer time given to our citizens to pay their taxes would encourage young dwarves to move from the barracks and live in homes in the city. For years, young dwedmar have been under pressure to pay their taxes, resulting in eviction. I myself, for years, was one struggling with finance. But I have overcome these financial problems, and hope to help our Kingdom to too.

In my next decision, I would plan to create great vaults beneath the city with the help of the new Yemekar's Pick. With the resources that the new Pick would gather, we would build these vaults in the depths. We would all watch as the vaults fill once again with thousands of minas, ores and precious gems.

Lastly, I would improve trade relations with other nations. Dwarves have lost their association with the goods that we traditionally sold: ale, metalwork and ores. I would encourage the Kingdom to return to its roots, trading these goods that dwarves specialize in. We would once again become a nation renowned for the quality of its trade goods, goods that are essential for the maintenance of other nations. We would trade these essential goods with the signature goods of other nations, increasing relations, gaining allies and helping to prevent future war.

As you can see from my application, I am a concerned citizen of the Kingdom of Urguan who is dedicated to fixing our financial situation. If I am elected to the position of Grand Merchant, I will indeed make the changes listed above. I would be Grand Merchant of the dwedmar, by the dwedmar and for the dwedmar. Thank you for your consideration of me, Aldal Ireheart, for this important position.

                                                                                                                         Yours sincerely,

                                                                                                                                  -Aldal Ireheart
