Knox213 10 Share Posted December 8, 2013 The Eternal Emperor “And so it was decreed that the lifeless body of Siegmund Carrion, the Divine Imperator, would be placed within his suit of plate-mail armor and welded to the Molten Throne, a great metal seat made of the melted-down armor and weapons of the vanquished rebels whose assault was halted at Schattenburg. Decorated with their bones, this moribund throne is placed in a great temple, the Temple of the Eternal, where men of all classes and professions shall travel, as pilgrims equal before God, to worship at the resting place of the Eternal Emperor. On either side of the vast corridor of the Temple a shrine to each saint of the faith would be mounted. The ground on which the Temple stood is named consecrated and holy, and Siegmund Carrion is decreed the Eternal Emperor, fully man and yet fully divine. He is the immortal, undying head of state of the human realm, his will carried out by the monarchs who held his favour in life. Though life no longer courses through his body, Siegmund Carrion is not dead and departed. A shadow of his spirit, a remnant and a revenant of his divine soul yet remains, bound to the throne on which his corpse is fixed. All righteous men are expected to travel to his temple and pray to the Eternal Emperor, and through him the Creator. Though he may not commune with earthly beings, his guidance will be sought on important affairs, and in exchange for his great deeds in life he is regarded as one of the greatest of the departed, second only to Horen and Emperor Godfrey. This temple is open to the human public, as through his actions on this world the Divine Imperator served all of mankind, whether they were poor or rich, feeble or proud, lesser or greater. When humanity teetered on the precipice of annihilation, it was Siegmund Carrion who rescued us and brought us to safety. That debt cannot be repaid by coin or by any other corporeal means. Because of these deeds, we recognize that God has ascended the Eternal Emperor to a position above us. He is no longer a simple mortal as we are. This serves to remind us that we are all blind insects simply contemplating the void of space. All we have built may fall apart as easily as a single human life. Though he does not live, he shall not die. Though he is no god, he watches over us.” It is mandatory for a follower of Oren’s faith, regardless of sect, to undertake a pilgrimage to the Temple of the Eternal at least once in their life. Upon making their way to the holy temple, they are to cast aside their garments and don the white garb of a penitent, signifying their equality before God regardless of caste. Once at the temple, which is maintained by a sole groundskeeper, they are to spend at least three days fasting from all food but the bread and water provided by the monk and must abstain from all sexual relations. These three days must be spent in prayer and meditation on the temple’s grounds. In exceptional cases, a pilgrim may receive a brief portent from the Eternal Emperor, usually an instruction, and in such cases the pilgrim who received such a vision is seen as being blessed and honoured, provided they are believed. Nonhumans are rarely permitted on the temple grounds on account of the belief that elves and dwarves seek only to defile such a consecrated site, however if it is proven that a nonhuman is a genuine follower of the faith, he may be allowed to make the pilgrimage. Shadowjax 140 Share Posted December 8, 2013 Especially since the Emperor in Warhammer 40k is "the Carrion Lord of the vast Imperium of Man". We almost named the Imperial Army the Imperial Guard. Not to mention the church uses the inquisitorial sigil on some of the scripture.
