A Letter Of Resignation

Walter Stafyr sat uncomfortably in his seat as he stared into the fire that blazed nearby. A worn, sullen, and heavy face was being worn by the Lord Marshal. He sat, contemplating for a while allowing no entrance to his office. He turned his head and walked over to the windows, looking out, he gaze upon the twinkling stars and then down upon the grandeur city of Abresi as the moonlight shone upon it. It was a quiet night, not much happening except for the few drunkards and peasants roaming the night time streets. He turned back to his desk and slowly walked over to it, as he looked down upon his wooden desk he gazed over a letter, rereading it to himself. In his own writing, it spelled out:

My glorious King, King Heinrik I of House Carrion, I write to you with a grievous hand this night, my heart heavy and my mind confused. I don't know why I accepted this position in the first place nor why I thought of it. Maybe it was the idea of being somebody important or achieving greatness for my House. Perhaps it was truly to serve you, my King and my friend.

It does not matter anymore, for I am incapable of performing my duties as Lord Marshal under you. My time as Lord Marshal has made the armed forces of the Kingdom of Oren stagnant and malicious. I have done nothing of note and nothing to prove my worth to you. It is with these saddened words that I must concede my title of Lord Marshal. As my last advisement in this position, I only ask that you find someone truly suitable for this position. (Perhaps the now Arhcduke Edward Winter).

Sincerely, Walter Stafyr

Walter slowly read over the ink written words one more time before he rolled the parchment up and sealed it. He strode over to the door before looking once more at the office before leaving it. He walked down the steps before handing the letter over to a trusted courier sending him off to the Royal Keep with haste.

With weighted legs he moved out of the gates of Abresi and without looking back, he started his journey back to Schattenburg.

Lark finds the letter and reads over it, he pounds the desk in frustration. "Damnit Walter!" Lark bites his lip in a mix of depression and anger and runs off to deliver the letter to Heinrik.
