The Melting Frost[!]

As Darenth Verum continues back to Kal’Ithrun with his Dwarven saviors, he explains what Ondnarch has done.

 

“Brethren, Ondnarch of the Frost has overtaken the deeproads, and made Kal’Azogth his castle. With his Shallmandrils defeated he has only one feral monster left under his direct control, and this great beast guards the entrance to Kal’Azgoth from the Deeproads. I fear that we will have to face it, and take Kal’Azgoth from the Deeproads. Luckily, I have a plan. I know a way from the entrance in Kal’Urir that leads to the entrance to Kal’Azgoth. This treacherous journey will require rest, food, men, and equipment. Those weapons that I gave out must come with us as well, they are essential to defeating his last feral beast, that much I know. Until then, I need my rest and time to re-equip myself. Wyrvun bless all of you.”

 

With that, Darenth continues on ahead of the Dwarves, making his way to Kal’Ithrun alone. However, as soon as Darenth is out of sight, a loud roar and a blast of frost sweeps throughout the Inner Valley, causing many of the Dwarves to shiver inside their plated armor. Soon the Dwarves were set to march at a faster pace, attempting to escape the furious cold. As they quickly arrived at the entryway to Kal’Ithrun, the Lords and Commanders sat down with the king and Darenth in the meeting hall. Murmurs and quiet whisperings scattered the room, casting an uneasy feel over the group of Dwarves. Finally, Darenth broke the silence and began to speak, “To the one who holds the Hammer of Old, Igor Ireheart, your dedication to the purity of a fresh snow shall be tested within the following Elven Week. You will see horrors that you never deemed imaginable. You will experience betrayal, heartbreak, and the greatest pain of them all, false hope. Live through, and push through, your duty is yours alone. Stick true and be pure.” Then, with a grin, Darenth turns to the King, “Now, I expect a hearty festival soon, it’s good to be back with my fellow Dwarves once again. I must admit one thing though, Darenth is not a true name of a Dwarf.” With that, he gets up from his seat and wanders out into Kal’Ithrun, blending in among the crowds.
