The Growth of Winegrapes

It was a peaceful day in the winefields of Festina,

the soil of the old Reformers, the hills of Len, brought great wine.

Within the repaired lodges, the Valesmark family gathered to have their own sip from their second harvest. The talks turned political, as always.

It was only a cycle ago, when the Consul of Casimir departed towards the settlers of the ancient Kingdom of Alras. The Valesmarks had tales of them stored in their library, and with hope and desperation they awaited the return of the consul with, hopefully, a signed treaty.

The treaty was to bring the Festina into sovereign rule, in more beneficial ways than founding it independant.

The peaceful silence of Festina was interrupted by the sounds of their bells, hoofs stamping on the cobblestone could be heard as cheers penetrated the window.

Someone was coming, was it the messenger?

John Lartius Valesmark glanced through the window, as he saw the messenger surrounded by guards of a different kind from their own. In front of the escort a man in decorated armor rode in front of the riders, stopping clumsily at the frontdoors.

“Bow to the King of Alras.” A voice could be heard saying.

All the Valesmarks left their wine as they hurried to take their formal positions in the hallway.

The hallway was grandé, but was the only proper building in the secluded winefields of Festina. Casimir just sat as the doors opened, and the king of Alras with his knights entered.

Casimir stood up, bowing just afterwards.

“Welcome to Festina, your grace, was your journey comfortable?”

The Alrasian monarch raised his hand as he nodded politely

“Please, call me Syrio.”

As Casimir nodded in humbleness,

the knights positioned themselves as the Valesmarks stood idle at the sides of the throne.

Syrio raised the scroll of parchment in one hand,

the very same that had been given to the Messenger.

“So this is what your people have proposed to The Kingdom of Alras?”

Casimir nodded, a serious, yet polite smile adorning his face: “Yes. Indeed, my lord.”

Syrio smiled in return, reaching out his hand towards Casimir,

leaving the formal Valesmarks in confusion and surprise.

Casimir stood up as he shook the hand,

looking into Syrio’s eyes as the King of Alras said

“I graciously accept, let us prosper together. Aeriel will watch upon us both, as your honorable people stand as brothers in arms with the Kingdom of Alras.”

The room was filled with cheers as the Valesmarks bowed before Syrio,

Casimir stood up from his throne and walked forward.

Placing the palm of his hand on the parchment held in Syrio’s hand.

“We hereby swear our loyalty to Alras, and will always be in their debt for giving us sovereign rule under their hand. We shall only act in the name of Festina within our given soil, and promote nothing else, but welfare and harmony towards Alras and us.

May Aeriel stand true in my promise, and may she take my soul if we make it hollow.”

Meanwhile, the room slowly became filled with the farmers on the fields, watching silently and in confusion on what was happening.

They would find out later, as Syrio was led towards the private dining hall with the Valesmarks. Only several whispers into the ear of the Consul was required for the people to mobilize to their posts.

In the dining hall,

the Valesmarks laughed and discussed politics with the audience of Syrio and himself.

The future looked bright for the ambitious Casimir,

the founding after the end of the current cycle seemed secure.

Casimir meanwhile feasts aside of the Alrasian monarch, enjoying himself with the deep debates on religion and Minas. Syrio seemed like a man who knew what he was doing, hopefully he thought the same about Casimir.
