Tales for Dark Elf children

Written by Dezar Drez

========================================================================================

Lonely Malin

Malin, father to all mali, arose into this world alone. He would walk in the forests, swamps, caverns and snow-fields always alone. So desperate was he to have conversation with someone, he created his first child.

He was then happy, as he now had someone to talk to. However, soon the young elf found herself afront a magical fountain that could shape something into a being of another form

“No!” Cried Malin

Yet, regardless of her father’s cries the young girl stepped into the fountain. Her features were all but warped and shaped, as if mocking Malin’s hard work he had put into the people. Malin became distraught over the actions of his daughter, who would become the first high elf. Evil workings had shaped and formed her into a being that was not truly an elf, and the elven features she did have would mock all elves to be.

Malin then thought to himself “This was just my first try, I will do better this time”. So he traveled to the forest to create his second child, one who would know loyalty, love, and still keep him from being lonely. This elf was short and frail, yet was truly loyal to her father and loved all creatures about her. When Malin left her alone, she would often wander the forests on her own, even though she was weak and frail.

One day she had come across a very large spider. She screamed in terror as the spider slowly crawled down and ate her in a single bite(As she was very small). When Malin had found out what had happened to his newest daughter, he immediately slew the spider where it stood. He then was lonely again, with only his very ugly and very pale, treacherous daughter there to keep him company.

He knew what needed to be done. He needed a child who knew honor, virtue, strength and power with the love and intellect of his other children. So he created his best creation, the first mai’ker. She was strong and powerful, able to slay anything that sought out to harm her. She not only loved the life about her, but she was able to truely protect it (unlike the wood elf child). Yet she was still able to do what Malin created her for, to give him intelligent conversation.

A Great Mistake

When the mali’ker were still young, there was only one house with one High-patron and one high-matron. They were benevolent, yet strong leaders. All of those under their house adored them. Not only were they kind to mali’ker, they showed kindness to the paler elves in the realm. They even began to admit them as servants.

One of these servants, a high elf, slowly began to scheme his way to the side of the high-patron. He would murder his competition, when no one would look. He would befriend the sons and daughters of the Patron and matron, only to defile their bodies as they slept. Yet, worse of all, in the darkest of rooms he would kneel before a alter of blood, receiving his orders from Iblees.

When he became friends with the high-patron, he would whisper in the ear of the patron, abusing his trust and guiding him down a very bad path. Through the high-patron, the treacherous pale-skin began to divide the mali’ker. When the high-patron found what the mali’aheral had been doing, it was already to late. Many mali’ker had already founded their own houses. Some would live in swamps, while other in caves. Some would look to the moon and see a god, while others denied all gods and prayed to the spirits of their ancestors. Some even began to see the pale elves as their own! Interbreeding and mixing together.

The high-patron then burned the high-elf alive, weeping at his own foolishness to allow a lesser control him in such a manner. The trust he had given to the pale-skin, had divided his people, bringing about the chaos of the many houses. Do not make the mistake of trusting a lesser, as the high patron did.

Necromancy and the Dirt-eater

There once was a young mali’ker, who came from a house of powerful mages. He had read every book there was, yet he still did not feel satisfied. He became the best mage of his house, practicing all forms of evocation all throughout the night, yet he still did not feel satisfied.

One day, while in the library, he came across a dusty old book, with a vile-spider affront the cover. The youth had never seen this book before, so he eagerly delved into it. Needless to say, he was shocked when he discovered the message of the book. It was instructions about raising the dead.

The mali’ker knew this was wrong, as he did come from a great house, and was raised by the words of his ancestors. The dead do not wish to brought out of their rest and become enslaved, words he knew very well. Yet, the curiosity of the mali’ker knew no bounds, so he defied the words of his ancestors and began the incantation.

As he finished speaking, many spectral mali’ker appeared before him, their eyes glowing with great rage.

“You dare defy our words!” They cried

In unison the ancestors of the boy raised their arms and cursed the child. From then on all foods tasted like rotting flesh to him; however, dirt had the flavour of the richest honey. So he would delve into mounds of dirt, in a feast. He was forced out of his house, as the patron and matron could not bare the shame of having a dirt eating child. He was then forced to live amongst the valah, where dirt is the main staple of their diet. Do not make the same mistake as the curious boy

*Ituri sits and reads this little gem. She's too old to buy the book outright as it is written, but she still finds the stories a little amusing. She suspends her disbelief, and just pretends the stories are true.
