It sat wholly unused now, only frequented by the merchants who still thought it profitable to go in between the continents, or the dead soldiers, returning from the Cloud Temple. The portal stood there, a pathway leading to the newest of lands, the newest of opportunities. The newest of conflicts. The Man stood there, his hand at his side as he viewed the entrance to a new world. This was the moment of truth. The moment that the Man would go, adventuring like he had in days of old. Before the apparition. Before the wars. Before the Scourge. Maybe it would end differently this time. As many others before him had, he stepped through the portal. As many others before him had, his mind rushed with hopes and dreams. As many others had, he looked to the light of the Fringe with a new perspective, and a new sense of life. Listen, to his racing thoughts. A search for two children, a boy and a girl. A fear of his war comrade's death. A chance to redeem his honor. A mission to rebuild a long-forgotten house. A quest to show truth in his many names and titles, for he had returned to do all this and more. The lands of Anthos were far behind him, and the Fringe before. A new chapter in his life had begun. Hear, the slow footsteps as he downs the stairs at the Fringe's gate, viewing the strange and wonderful world before him. His sharp intake of breath as the new air touched his skin, and the bright light shone down on his face. See, his features, old and weathered by the elements. And on his person, various mementos from different times and ages. A silver pin. A black blade at his side. A crisp gray military uniform. And a sickly pink mark across his face.
