Wars? Why Do We Promote Them?

 Share

Recommended Posts

So I was wondering what others thought about wars and the promotion of them.

I have, over the last month, seen most of the server RP revolve around wars. Groups try to not have PvP conflict and those who want PvP conflict don't seem to respect that. To me wars are the main problem we have on the server and it isn't because we lack the capacity to run the server during battles or have cool plugins to make battles fancy. I believe they are the main problem because of the consequences of them:

-Ban reports

-Fuels players to misbehave. A catalyst.

-Unintentional death of bystanders

-Massive group trolling

-Land claim/dismantling of nation or culture

-Bitterness/sore losers and winners

-Possible nation growth. Wealthy, victorious nations grow while others decrease.

We see a massive increase of BR's when a war takes place, most of them just out of frustration towards the situation. This is when the fun RP becomes bitter OOC and groups begin to hate one another, creating divides in the community.

What wars also allow players to do, for better or worse, is destroy other nations and cultures. While the winner might think "Well we had fun. Everyone must have!" I rarely ever see them sympathizing with the fact that they literally crushed the RP of an entire group, taking away where they RP-ed and OOCly forcing them away.

Another thing that I have seen is that warring nations often disregard other nations wants to remain out of the PvP fest. I don't think it occurs to many regular PvPers that a large portion of the server just wants to be able to RP and not worry about having to PvP or lose their home and the fact that wars seem to literally overlap each other there is never a break, never a chance to get away or develop anything. Just constant loss, bickering and frustration. To me wars, which are labeled as "fun pvp events" are a big factor for the general sour attitude of the community. I am sorry if me saying our community is sour comes off as a shock to you but in all honesty we are.

What do you all think about wars? Do you have any proposed fixes that don't involve removing them? Do you think it is alright to force a group into a war? Do you think it is alright to destroy and or take another groups RP hub? Do you find yourself getting mad constantly during a war? Are they really worth it?

Just some general questions. Again I would just like to discuss them. Personally while I am an awful PvPer I still enjoy a battle every now and again and this is in no way a slam on the default. PvP default ftw.

A war on Lord of the Craft has two outcomes. Either absolute benefit, or absolute destruction to a nation. Kings take this gamble of two outcomes when they declare war, in hopes for the first to come true.

A warring nation is a more active nation, a more engaged nation, and a more patriotic nation. It is absolutely necessary to be warring someone at a time for a nation like Krugmar for example to succeed.

Could just... you know... have wars on Mount and Blade.

You merely need mature Nation Leaders for wars to be fun. Back in Aegis, Redninja [can't say the same for Ivrae though], Mogroka, meanking [i think that was King of Dwarves?], and I held a mature and fun-oriented approach to our wars. I actually believe that we are nearing that peak - Zezimus can hold his own maturity, M-Gamer is chill, even the Oren Civil War is rather chill save for the few rotten eggs. A group that wants to avoid conflict such as the High Elves have been respected unless I missed something?

Cause there is nothing else to do, no skills, no story line, nothing. Its war cause thats what people resort too when they are bored.

This: Basically, and this is coming from someone who just lost his nation, so respect.

This post isn't about the present. It's just in general. The high elves have so far figured out how to remain neutral.

Uhm, how many warclaims have the high elves denied on OOC premises? Many from the dwarves and related nations if memory serves.

To go into more detail, warclaims and raids destroyed Adunia. This benefitted Oren to a degree, but... not us.

50 Adunians, to 10.

That's what War did to us. Did we want it? No. We couldn't have stopped it IC.

Dynamic RP sure.. but.. It wasn't fun. I log on to have fun.

Not talking about the high elves. Just because I play one does not mean I speak of them nor is this thread a relative place for one to discuss ones distaste of them. Create another feedback thread for that if you desire.
